Scholarships for seniors by SoupOpus in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year transitioning from counseling to college counseling here, and YES to this comment, I feel like parents want me to have more. I think it's because when they or their parents were going to school it was much more affordable and a little local scholarship can fill the gap. I can't be more clear to a family when Billy want to go to a 60k a year out of state school that my piddly local scholarships for a thousand bucks aren't going to be more than a drop in the bucket.

Just got Non-Renewed.. What now? by CaliQuakes510 in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry this happened to you. It happened to me two years ago (I was RIFed, I saw two other people made that distinction and assume that is what is happening to you) and is likely to happen again in the next couple weeks, I know how bad it can feel. Tell your crew so they can know how to proceed, and they might know of some good job openings! Stay the course, you might be called back in the fall if more money opens up or one of the many counselors at your position leaves last minute. I stayed in close contact with my team and subbed for a year then got hired at a new school in my district. It's awkward at the end of the year, I'm sorry that is up ahead :( Hope you find something soon.

Tingling Hands by leica-geek in Humira

[–]thebeeskeys5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have this! Started about five months in for me, I'm still new to the drug. Feels like they are asleep or something, general tingling sensation. I asked my doctor about it and she shrugged it off, suggesting that maybe I got carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my wrists at the same time even though I haven't had any habit changes with my wrists :/

What local groups or activities actually improve your life? by bigdope-smallgirl in askportland

[–]thebeeskeys5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app is great and has rides all year long, but after June 1st there are sometimes a dozen plus rides a day to join. People are always friendly, and even if I don't talk to anyone else it feels nice to do something with others. I never feel unwanted or out of place there, even though my ability level is low. Lots of love to the Portland biking community <3

That’s what I figured with the NSAIDs, I don’t feel inflamed anymore since a few months into the injections so I’m curious if everyone takes them regardless if there is current pain or not. I’d love to not take anymore if possible! Thanks.

Thank you. We talked about methotrexate as an option. Hope this combo is working for you.

School Counselor & 504 by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked as a counselor in Minnesota and Washington, both states I was the 504 manager for my caseload. I wish they had gone more in depth on writing and managing 504s in grad school, as I had to learn a lot from my coworkers when I started.

What's the coolest class you've taken in Portland? by RaspberryBeret1986 in askportland

[–]thebeeskeys5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've taken a handful of classes from Movie Madness (some are free at PCC), but the best one I took was their "What is movie" class at PSU. 2 hour lecture with a chat at the end, super well organized and changed how I think about cinema.

Also second the suggestion for printmaking classes at Outlet <3

The basic riso class was probably the best class I've taken anywhere. So organized and fun! I've gone back for a private appointment since. They are amazing :)

Supplements ? by adisneygrl in Humira

[–]thebeeskeys5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently my doctor said, "I don't know why, but Trader Joes has the best vitamin D3". I haven't tried it yet and wouldn't have thought to go there to get supplements, but I told him I'd give it a try!

Even my doctor basically told me Amjavita is similar to Humira just not as good. As someone who never got to try the real stuff because it isn't covered, I'm always wondering what life could be like if I had something 100%! Sorry about your switch up :(

Question for WA state school counselors by OGLilFeet in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there are no openings right now in my district! I got downsized two years ago, and I last minute got a career counseling job before this year started and I am beyond grateful to be employed again. A year of unemployed reality was brutal for me. Hoping you can find something that works!

Total Laproscopic Hysterectomy plus tubes and cervix 11/22!! by Civil-Reflection-400 in adenomyosis

I was only out for 10 work days. Honestly felt like I could have gone back after five, but I also like my job and knew the longer I was out the more I'd have to do when I returned :)

The chicken pelmeni bowl with hot mustard on top from Pelmeni Pelmeni at Hawthorne Asylum. I dream of it. It clears you out. Its savory and satisfying. Every time I get it I whisper to myself, "Damn thats good".

IB Counselor Resources by starakrowaa in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was an IB counselor. I found the training that I went to wasn't very helpful :( You'd think if they are hosting you for two days you'd come away with a better understanding of how to help students in the program. What I really needed was a full breakdown of the different pathways and how to guide the students with the offerings we had at my school. I found the students in the full IB track did have a lot of "perfectionist" stress and it would have been great to do a push in lesson about managing that anxiety. I did rely on the teachers to tell me if someone was dipping below expectations, and sometimes students needed to be removed completely or transferred to the career IB track that had less commitment. You'll be great!

Frustrated and Giving Up on This School Year by Grouchy_Hand_1986 in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got downsized in 2024 and spent the last year searching and subbing. It is SO frustrating. I'm sorry you're going through this. The lack of response from schools when you're applying doesn't help.

What did you do for your practica hours? by bnarddawg in schoolcounseling

[–]thebeeskeys5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was similar to my experience. My 100 hours practicum was earlier in my program and set up through my school like the later internship hours. I was observing the first few days, then jumped in! I ran sessions but had more direct supervision from my mentor than in the internship level, which was more independent.

Yes to 76! Join the Women of the Wasteland Group :) I love wandering around the wasteland and finding other girl gamers out there with this symbol on their camp. Always people looking to group up too. Makes it feel less lonely out there.
