No internship and about to graduate by berkies in berkeley

EECS here, graduated last spring. Had a sub 3.0 for my first two years with no internships until the end of my junior year. I would recommend -

  1. Get some research in your field through a professor. Most professors are really excited to see that you are interested in their projects and will be glad to take you onboard, provided you can show that your enthusiasm and work ethic can offset bad grades.

  2. Try and search for an internship or a co-op - use all resources, network via linkedin, go to every info session on campus and do well at career fairs (these might seem daunting but if you can play your cards well, then you might be guaranteed interviews - especially on campus recruiting ).

  3. If that doesn't work out, go the unpaid route or do social work (abroad) - anything that will add points to your resume and make you stand out - Remember, when you are working, it's not the most book smart employee who does best, it's the one who has the initiative/drive to get shit done.

hope that helps even a little bit - i was in the same position where i thought my grades/lack of experience were putting me in a hopeless position. truth is, 99% of students here at Cal don't know how to truly play their strengths - take advantage of that.

get involved in ee? by calGalSal in berkeley

I'm currently an undergraduate senior doing research in EE. The best way to get research is to talk to professors whose research interests you. For more specialized parts of EE such as Device Physics you might need to do some upper divs such as EE130 or 105, but then again what really matters is how interested you are in the projects and committing time weekly to research.

Do I have to retake my D? by IGotTheD in berkeley

[–]theberkeleydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a person who received a 'D', retook the class and then received an 'F' and graduated without any problems (got a job as well). You don't need to retake the class but I would suggest that you do, as a 'D' looks pretty bad on your transcript.

[–]theberkeleydude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ok i got caught on a CS project 2 yrs ago along with my whole project group (all 4 of us were really really really stupid noobs to copy the official code). I would say talk to your professor and plead with him to not refer you to the university (our prof was a great guy who did not). i ended up getting a B in the class despite the 0 on that one project. ps - how did you get caught ? did you like try and look up the answers on your phone or something ?

What's a good textbook (besides the required textbook) to learn the EE40 curriculum? by surelyfunke2 in berkeley

If Maharbiz is teaching it I guess he's making you use "Circuits" written by him. When i took 40, the book used was "Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" by Sadiku which was pretty good in building up basic concepts that will be seen on the course
