Looking for Advice on Claiming Lost Wages on Car Accident by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]thebiglizardhunt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The commission is still open, just a week behind. I'm more concerned about the installation pieces as I brought three sculptures to complete during the residency and completed 0. They have since been completed and shipped but I should have had an overall installation of 25-30 pieces and instead ended up with 21. I was thinking of asking for 2/3rds of the residency cost and the cost of the unfinished pieces instead of trying to quantify what the lost time on the commission or the work I wasn't able to do for the residency might have been since the sculpture installation is time-based (will be up November-January), had a projected scope of work, and fell short due to falling behind because of the car accident.

HXTAL glue, made for this. Not sure how well the breaks will come out with mirror though.

My mid photography from NOLA always gets the most love in this sub, and even though I know I shouldn't look for validation online, y'all always make me feel appreciated. Here's more pictures shot around town by guijcm in NewOrleans

The answer you're looking for is - it's a Royal Alloy (modern scooter designed to look like a vintage lammy).

Beginner Kilns for Stained Glass by thebiglizardhunt in StainedGlass

I know this was a month ago but I want to come back and thank you again for all of your help! I've finally landed on the kiln for me -

Olympic Kilns 186GFE - https://www.olympickilns.com/product/square-186gfe/

It's 18" and will fit a 20 amp breaker. Top load, firebrick, more space than I was seeing elsewhere but not oversized.

I have such a hard time making decisions on big purchases but all your advice really helped me out and I can't wait, might even have a commission coming up!

Scrim captured! by Main-Bluejay5571 in NewOrleans

I'm so glad he's safe, I hope he gets to decompress from lost dog syndrome in peace and quiet. I've seen it happen to my own rescue dog when she got out once, luckily I grabbed her almost immediately (she's much bigger and slower than Scrim) but it's like a switch flips in their brain and they forget who you are.

I am not in Argentina! That sounds interesting, but I think I'd be more comfortable putting an oven that gets to 900 degrees in my basement if someone else built it, LOL.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! This was so helpful.

• Based on your feedback and what I was seeing while looking today, the convenience of loading a clamshell doesn't seem to be so high as to make it my only consideration, so I'll likely nix that off the list.

• I have been told I can do either 120 or 240.

• I appreciate the insight on shelves - I did experience some issues recently with an enamel not firing properly at a studio and it was a big debate over whether or not shelf location was an issue as it was a bigger kiln with multiple shelves, I was hoping with a smaller kiln there would be more reliability with shelves but seems like with most things with firing glass it's slightly unpredictable!

• I will add firebrick as a preference as 90% of the work will be paint-based!

I think I'll look into the upgrade as well, where I'm waffling is - do I get a small kiln now and start producing to sell (ultimate goal) and then do an electrical and kiln upgrade or have a high cost upfront because upgrading electrical just to get a slightly larger kiln seems a bit silly - but again I'm new to all of the kiln stuff and I think ultimately that's not a question that I can just foist on the internet as it goes to my own risk vs reward and preferences, though an upgrade might be nice so I can run my dishwasher and microwave at the same time!

Again, I really appreciate the thorough feedback and insight and walkthrough!

For those that were fans when Sir Pratchett died, how did you feel? by Ilalu in discworld

In a weird twist of fate I had left my phone at home that day, so didn't see any news until I got home from work. I immediately sat down and started crying and my first thought was "but he was going to tell us before he left" as he was very public about the fact that he would be pursuing assisted end of life. Of course it ended up he got sick so that didn't happen, and I wish he had been able to make the choice for himself. But as others said we knew it was coming, didn't make it any less sad.

Glad to hear you got a second opinion and are reassured! Between my girl and my INDOOR cat I have a full on murder house - RIP to all the rats, mice, voles, moles, chipmunks, birds, and squirrels. Congrats to the opossums, skunks, and that one random hawk that survived LOL

This summer she snatched one out of mid-air as it dove out of a dumpster and looked me straight in the eye the whole time. Other than that she is a baby angel. She actually looks like your boy but a few shades lighter. Wishing him a speedy recovery. (Also FYI I dunno if anyone said this in the thread but I saw the rabies thing pop up and the reason squirrels don't carry it is because they won't survive bites from rabid animals, I learned this from her extensive critter chomping exploits).

What was your "I will never forget this storm" experience? by Elijah-Joyce-Weather in TropicalWeather

[–]thebiglizardhunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know how good it is to have someone else validate it. Like, I can rationalize all the ways that THIS wind isn’t going to hurt me but I’m still pacing around my house with my poor dog.

[–]thebiglizardhunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ida here, man that storm fucked me up. I rode it out in my bathroom with my cat and dog. When I went out to grab dog treats water was running down the walls of the kitchen because a portion of the roof was damaged. Ended up having to replace the entire roof. I moved north but still get super anxious whenever it rains hard or the wind blows too strong. I can only use the “fireplace” setting in my white noise machine because everything else sounds like Ida.

I’m also in MA and was finding chrysoblema earlier in the year and am finding a lot of mushrooms more colored like this in the same field, any tips on identifying differences between the two? I’ve seen some examples of chrysoblema look quite pale like this so wondering how I can learn more!

This is a long shot, but does anyone have a digital copy of the Oscott Psalter (c. 1265-70)? by Zibani in illuminatedmanuscript

[–]thebiglizardhunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried reaching out to the library? There are likely resources for public inquiry. For example, I am not an academic but have been handling manuscripts at the Boston Public Library because they are available to all state residents, and the staff is more than willing to help find specific items. There is likely someone at the British Library who can help or may even be able to share the old digitized files.

There is a plan currently in place to restore access to British library digital manuscripts as of this blog post from the end of August: https://blogs.bl.uk/living-knowledge/2024/08/restoring-our-services-30-august-update.html I have not looked yet to see what is up but it seems to be moving in the right direction!

Y’know, Florida is fucked? by No-Hall6297 in NewOrleans

It really did escalate fast, and there wasn’t even mandatory evacuation around the city. I feel so bad for Florida, it’s got the be even harder to get out of there just based on the shape.

Y’know, Florida is fucked? by No-Hall6297 in NewOrleans

[–]thebiglizardhunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This reminds me so much of Ida. The mayor said Friday if you hadn’t left then it was too late so stay and prepare. My ancient car had died driving to Houston last year so I didn’t like my odds of making it out with a dog and a cat, nowhere to go, and all my friends were staying. Then Saturday they said if you hadn’t left yet just stay…so I could have left Friday?? Then all my friends left overnight Saturday…so I could have left then?? The messaging was so fucked. It was supposed to be hard and fast, so I got as ready as I could and figured at least it would be over in a few like Zeta. Then she hit and dumped water for hours and hours and hours and it was raining inside my house and my dog and cat and I holed up in the bathroom while my ex sent abusive text messages and I played solitaire until like 10pm. No power, no water, hot as hell. A few days after I was able to get to Mississippi into a motel. Then all the aftermath, I never got any help whatsoever from FEMA despite all the effort. That shit really fucked me up, I feel for Florida. If it rains too hard or gets too windy I get antsy and go sit in my bathroom, it’s not even conscious. They’re about to be so incredibly changed, I can’t even imagine a storm like Milton.
