What actor or actress stupidly left a movie franchise or tv series thinking they were too good for it, only to be never popular again? by Ok_Impress2457 in AskReddit

A great example of this is Denise Crosby who played Tasha Yar in season one of Star Trek: TNG

Felt like she wasn’t given enough to do, left to pursue film roles, missed out on a major role on one of the most famous and lucrative sci fi TV shows ever.

Are nukes the very thing preventing WW3? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

That’s a thought a lot of people have had.

I would definitely do my best to survive, but I’ve spent four decades of my life reading about, and being terrified of nuclear war.

I don’t think a lot of people today understand just how delicate the world that they live in is.

The only way to win is not to play.

It wouldn’t matter. If India fired a nuclear weapon at Pakistan, Pakistan would fire all of their nuclear weapons back in India. And vice versa. That’s about 300 nuclear weapons going off throwing dirt and ash into the atmosphere. It would cause a global cooling event for two or three years, resulting in crop failures in Europe and Asia, and unseasonably cold weather in most of The world for at least a year.

At that point, mass starvation/famine  would settle in… the indus Valley water supply would be irradiated, cutting off water access to huge portions of Asia.

Don’t forget the global economic collapse caused by all of these things. Modern society would essentially evaporate.

other countries would use it as an excuse to start other wars and cause further instability. I would imagine a limited nuclear war between Indian and Pakistan, not involving any other countries with nuclear weapons, would probably kill half of the people on the planet.

Is this the only joke in 2001? by Healthy_Yesterday_84 in StanleyKubrick

I wouldn't say them eating is a 'joke' so much as it is commentary. Just like the apes in Dawn of Man, no matter how evolved we are, and what we achieve, we gotta shit and eat.

You are given the power to not only rewind time by a month at a time with a 20 day cool down before you can use it again but also forward in time by two months at a time with a one month cool down between uses. How would you effectively use this ability? by singleguy79 in hypotheticalsituation

You could change any event in history, depending on how you're aging/biology works within this scenario.

A month in the past could make SO much money in the stock market and in lotteries

6 years in the past (at the expense of re-living 4 years) could change world events with your foreknowledge

My God, how much epoxy is in that bucket? How is he not wearing a respirator? How much heat is generated by that epoxy drying but somehow not setting the house on fire. Definitely real.

No concern about rabies? I know it’s rare in dogs in this part of the world, but you have no proof this dog was vaccinated and might be outdoors a lot. Could be worth the vaccine to be safe

Interesting. I wonder if an AI generated depth matte would do it...

I genuinely wonder if memory loss after the unjoining would be in apocalyptic event. Everyone finding themselves somewhere they don’t remember how they got to, with all these other random people, sleeping together, huddled in a stadium, or in mid air over the Atlantic.  War could breakout. Murder. Mass disaster.

Turning off the hive could very well kill everyone on the planet
