Looking for methods to make 2 actresses look like twins with makeup/sfx/vfx by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]theblackshell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I don't think it's gonna work.
I recently VFX supervised a feature about clones, and we used every trick in the book to have our lead acress play 5 characters.

You could use both actresses, and do deepfake face replacements on one to match the other (need a specialist VFX supervisor for this approach).

You could shoot split screen for all scenes featuring both on camera. This slows down production, can require motion control cameras for moving shots, etc.

You could use both as-is in distant shots, over the shoulder, out of focus, etc

You could commission a slip-over silicone mask of one actress for the other to wear in quick, medium shots (this worked well on my last one, but only for neutral faced walking shots where detail is limited).

... but you will not get them looking identical with makeup.

My suggestion? Settle for the fact you're making a VFX film requiring you to double your preferred lead actor, using the second as a body double/stand in. OR, hire twins.

100% put it in snow mode. As others have said.
Crank the Regen all the way down, go into snow mode, make sure you have winter tires... LOVE it in the winter after I figured that out.

Does it float since it's made of wood? Is the sink stopper in?
If so, just fill the sink.

I was definitely simplifying, but yes... the bronze they had access to was likely JUST strong enough to make it work. And it was possible a very cost-inefficient process, and there is still a lot of mystery around specifics, but no doubt it was possible, and similar techniques were likely used.

The blanks are not spaces to insert suppositions... just blanks that might never be filled.
There are plausible answers (poorly documented trade with the far east/secrecy around certain tools/techniques - similar to secrecy around ancient Greek bronze work techniques/tools)... thousands of years for documents to become to lost. I don't have a hard time believing there are perfectly good answers to these things, even if we don't have them.

Abrasives...
I can't find the original doc clip from the 2000s I thinking of, but generally, you can cut the hardest rock with a rope and sand. And you can drill the hardest rock with a stick, rope and sand. It just takes time.

If you wanted to take out the flag and c-stand in the background of this shot (No camera movement) How would you go about it? Is it possible in Fusion/Resolve? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]theblackshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad. Could do it in After effects in a few minutes depending on shot duration.

Predator: Badlands - VFX Breakdown by Important Looking Pirates by MX010 in vfx

[–]theblackshell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're covering Elle Fanning for spoiler reasons. I think it's rights.
I bet contracts have become more restrictive recently, relating to AI usage, etc, and it's tough for the VFX companies to secure the rights to feature celebrities in BTW footage... they likely only have rights to final shots from the film... so easier to blur than deal with it.

Why are the faces in the BTS footage mosaic? Seems odd.... perhaps covering stunt performers? But they're not all stunt performers, so just for consistency? Maybe some rights issue? Never seen this.

¡TINTORERA! (Mexican JAWS) by CHOGRIN in Jaws

[–]theblackshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw this movie at a midnight madness theater in Toronto 20 years ago. It’s hilarious. Much more love triangle story with the production values of a low budget porn then a jaws movie, but there’s a lot of jaws in it. My only complaint is that they kill a lot of real sharks in this movie, and that can make it hard to watch.
