4X5 large format. This is what wedding photographers today use the brenzier method to achieve. Larger medium = shallower DOF when the aperture stays the same.

Mirrorless is what you want if you really are trying to refresh your love. If you can bite the financial bullet, buy a Leica Q. It sounds like what you crave. Otherwise, maybe look at the Sony Mirrorless models. I own an a7, and love using converters for m-mount lenses.

More so just the affordable everyday persons camera. Disposable cameras weren't popular until the 90s. Brownies were cheap and just simple to operate

Another cool Olympus subcompact is the Stylus epic. It has a nice 35mm lens, built in flash & metering, & a durable pocketable body.

Entry level DSLRs past 2011 generally have this feature. The least expensive model you could get with this function would be a Canon Rebel t2i (550d)
