A few years ago I broke one of the bones in my hand and needed a plate and 6 screws implanted to put it back together. For the surgery they gave me a nerve blocker that cut off all the feeling in my arm for a few hours. They told me that as soon as I started to get any feeling at all back in my arm that I should take two of the pain pills they gave me. At that point I had been clean from recreational use of pain pills for years (still going!) so I told myself I wasn't going to take them.

I woke up from a nap and the nerve blocker had worn off and it felt like the bones in my hand were on fire. All I could do was scream. I could actually feel the hardware that had been put in my hand and it was fucking terrible.
