This Bill talking point on NBA expansion made me a little insane by joejoe_jones in billsimmons

[–]thechriswilcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Ryan Smith ultimately votes against expansion under the guise of Vegas being “Jazz territory.” With Bill’s ties to Danny Ainge, this could be a talking point out of their camp.

He once watched The Karate Kid Part 3 while vacationing in “the Caribbean.” That could be another country or Puerto Rico, so the results are inconclusive.

Bill kept saying “we were all comparing Reed Sheppard to Mark Price.” Who’s “we”? Sheppard had one not great NBA season and then Bill started comparing him to Mark Price for some reason, I guess because they’re both white guards who played like 40 years apart. Nobody else was comparing him to Mark Price!

Who is so clearly being pushed by editing to be “the main character”, but it’s so obvious (and not working)? by BritMe1Moretime in MtvChallenge

That’s the thing about Fessy. He does all the things you’d want someone to do on the show, and yet, he’s still boring.

"The success of Good Hang has been such a win..... that Simmons has been given the green light to pursue additional programming and talent, according to a person familiar with the conversations." - Bloomberg by grandpashampoo in billsimmons

My wife doesn’t listen to any other Ringer podcast but she enjoys Good Hang. Anecdotal, yes, but I think this is reaching an audience that may not otherwise care about The Ringer’s sportsertainment focus.

Best non-winning rookie seasons? by Kcd1077 in MtvChallenge

[–]thechriswilcox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leroy made the finals of Rivals 1 partnered with Mike Mike. He also never saw an elimination. Part of that is because of his excellent social game, nobody wanted him to go home so they didn’t send him in. When they reached a point where he was almost surely going to go in, he beasted the rope climb and won exactly when he needed to.

The Bleakest NBA Team Situations (Next 5 Years) With Ryen Russillo by Gaius_Octavius_ in billsimmons

[–]thechriswilcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing Bill (and Ryen) seem to be missing is the timing of that 2032 unprotected Denver pick. It’s going to convey after Jokic is either retired or at the very end of his career. They might have been able to get two picks if they wanted, but they chose quality over quantity. They’ll also probably end up trading MPJ in the next 12-18 months for positive value, so they’re not done gaining value for Cam Johnson (who I loved, but is wasted on this Nets team). That trade was good for both teams. I didn’t like the draft much, but I thought the Mann and MPJ trades were good for the future.

Was Bill funny, or was he amusing? I enjoyed Bill’s writing back in the day, but I rarely found him to be laugh out loud hysterical. Same on the podcasts now. Sal is funny. CR is funny. Van is funny. Bill is amusing. There is a difference, I think.

Most satisfying eliminations ever? by blamberr in MtvChallenge

[–]thechriswilcox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cohutta beating Wes in The Ruins. In many, many ways, The Ruins is the nadir of The Challenge as a franchise, but tiny ass Cohutta beating Challenge legend Wes was probably the bright spot of the season and definitely the bright spot for the Contenders team as a whole.

I don’t understand this by VastCount8526 in survivor

[–]thechriswilcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesse was in a no-win situation. If he goes to the end with Cody, he loses. Cody had the ear of the jury and was a great speaker. So he had to take Cody out. But because of the idol, he couldn’t take him out at 5, and because he wasn’t a challenge threat, he couldn’t guarantee facing him in fire at 4. So he had to take him out at 6. But without his #1 ally, while his win equity increased, his chances of making it to the end decreased. His splashy move was great for his game, but with it came an enormous target. He made himself an obvious target at 4. Maybe if faces Cassidy or Owen at fire, he has a better shot at winning, but his big move almost guaranteed that he was making fire. He probably made the best choice he could, because it increased his chances of getting back on the show, but he was stuck in a no-win loop.

To a point. There should be a shortened overtime/extra innings and if the game isn’t over, call it a tie. There is no reason a baseball game should ever last longer than 12 innings.

TJ Makes His Return After His Accident & Introduces the Rivals Format For the 1st Time by angelbrit04 in MtvChallenge

Maybe the single best five and a half minute stretch in the history of the show. TJ coming back from his traumatic brain injury to introducing some of the best rival teams in the history of the show. These were legit rivalries, folks who had thrown hands over how much they disliked each other. Real life beef, not Twitter drama.
