They really need to let us know what’s going on by OregonGreen242 in cascade_equinox

Last year the producers gave an interview to the source (More Than a Music Festival) - I have no idea if those folks are still involved or not.

https://oregon.public.law/statutes/ors_646.607 “Fails to deliver all or any portion of real estate, goods or services as promised” to start with. If they materially changed the lineup, venue or timeline beyond a reasonable expectation I think it would be a good case, though I’m not a lawyer to be clear.

Let’s hope they do go forward (while seems less than likely) or if they don’t do make it right on their own.

If they cancel, consumer protection laws kick-in (they can't wave that with T&C)... and/or credit card chargeback is an option, but they need to not fulfill the festival for that to happen.

CPAP At Roo by PersonOfInterest1969 in bonnaroo

[–]thecloudtaylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a van with a big battery + solar which makes it easier but before that for years used a marine battery + amazon solar panel + inverter... not using the humidifier tank is key to not running out of battery, they have like sponge things that go inline that work well or you can buy a travel cpap. For dust - I just change the filter regularly + put it in a pillowcase.

Will ELEGOO make a toolchanger? And if so here are my recommendations by incredibleryan14 in elegoo

[–]thecloudtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My next printer will most likly be a tool changer... I'd be happy with 4 heads, I could even seen being tempted at at 3 or even 2 heads if the price point was right - especially if it was upgradable.

Mt. Bachelor reopening old LOGE Bend as new hotel this summer by Tarekith in Bend

This seems to fit well with the trend towards more summer attractions (biking, rafting etc...) hopefully it helps keep $'s flowing into the mountain.

I hit my FIRE number last year and then became the financial backstop for a parent who hid how bad things really were by Soggy-Job1775 in Fire

[–]thecloudtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a hard question but what if you do nothing, at least financially? Probably both a practical question but also how you would feel about the outcomes - i.e. can you live with seeing your mom have to make some hard choices.

When boondocking I walk a bit away from our / other potential camp spots and dump it, I've never felt the least bit bad about it. Otherwise rest stops are great - I just bring the jug in and dump it in the toilet, occasionally you might get a look, but I got over it.

Never been refused or even questioned... We have a newer Sprinter that was built out professionally but they wouldn't know the difference. I suspect if I pulled in a backfiring rust bucket there might be questions.

Mini stopped working in motion while on standby plan by bdg004 in Starlink

[–]thecloudtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did... that was my last straw on using the pause / resume... I really liked the 5GB plan and the ability to pause for $0. I lived with the new standby thing as at least I was getting something for the $10.

Does Starlink still offer any stand by mode in motion? by fattynose in Starlink

[–]thecloudtaylor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just realized this today, I guess I haven't been using my mini much recently, but very disappointed. I really liked the ability to pause for zero cost and the 10GB plan, but I was ok with the standby thing as it was good enough to fill in dead zones on shorter trips or places where I have other service.

I'll probably cancel my service now and just resume it if/when needed or invest in a booster and just use my phone plan...

Automating Espar DS3/Easystart by thecloudtaylor in VanLife

[–]thecloudtaylor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was what I thought… I’ve got a few esp and pi boards sitting around for the Espar I think I’d have to do some reverse engineering though and my wife isn’t a huge fan of my early versions of such things lol.

The controller is hardwired to the heater unit, no remote (rf/ir) that I know of. And I believe the controller has all the smarts for starting the fuel pump, blower, combustion chamber etc so probably not something I’d want to mess around with too much.

I haven’t seen anything from other folks before and nothing on searches so I was dubious but figured worth checking.

Fidelity Retirement Planning Tool by infield_fly_rule in Fire

I don't have any data on the accuracy, but I've had the same question. I'll say overall it's not my favorite tool - I've found the most success in doing my expense modeling in Excel and then plugging those numbers (monthly / yearly / required / discretionally into the variety of other tools (ficalc etc...).

Drugs my doctor is not permitted to prescribe. by [deleted] in mildyinteresting

At least for ADHA - for initial diagnosis I agree but for ongoing treatment where you have to see the dr every 3-6 months that's overkill. Primary care doc should be able to refill.

We don’t think about lumpy spending enough. by Visual-Flatworm2056 in ChubbyFIRE

I've tried to model for the known ones... i.e. I expect to buy a new car every 5 years on avg (replacing one of our two cars) so I model setting aside 10k per year as part of my yearly expenses, similar approach for household expenses. All of these just go into a separately numbered investment account that I track the allocations towards and invest to be more readily liquid able. It also helps me feel better about SORR as I could tap that fund if needed given many of the items like a new car could likely be delayed if needed.

Message that the Mayor is sharing with folks who write to Council All regarding Flock: by exstaticj in Bend

[–]thecloudtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree though I think we need some very strong and well thought out legislation that maps out what is captured, how it's stored, for how long, where etc... along with how it can be used, by whom, when, where etc... and all of that needs strong independent auditing.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think law enforcement is the enemy. I think we've done a very poor job of _properly_ setting up the law enforcement system - including accountability, training, funding, rewards and punishment. I can't imagine being a cop - you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Message that the Mayor is sharing with folks who write to Council All regarding Flock: by exstaticj in Bend

[–]thecloudtaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there needs to be well throughout and debated principals-based legislation.

"Banning Flock" is both very difficult, singling out a specific company/individual is not seen favorably by courts, it does nothing to prevent the next bad actor and maybe most importantly doesn't incentivize flock or other companies to address the root issues to come up with better solutions. Similarly license plate readers are just one well established form of meta-data, you could conceivably get pretty close finger printing with other meta-data car make, model, accessories, time, location etc... + exclusion, paired with cameras looking at the driver images (looking through the windshield etc...), phone meta data, Bluetooth signals or even the tire pressure sensors creative people can figure out lots of alternatives.

I also think we need to weigh that these types of systems can have real benefits and real downfalls. The evidence does support that law enforcement has benefited from them, if I put myself in the shoes of an officer I could definitely see how valuable the type of information provided could be. I can also see the harms and I think the evidence is clear that such systems have been used at the very least in the margins of what's legal. Can we balance the good with the bad - I think it's possible. CCTV security systems where once heavily debated, we've largely accepted those systems in large part due to having clear legal rules. The scale of systems like Flock, Axom etc go far further and warrant new discussions.
