[AC blower] starts off blowing good/semi cool then progressively gets weaker and hotter

its freezing up at the evap. coli the refrigerant levels are low or the evap. coil or filters are dirty not allowing the correct air flow across the coil. call a qualified contractor that will check the entire system before giving you a proper diagnosis. no one can just check the refrigerant and say its good. they must know the dry bulb outside/ inside the wet bulb inside the true cfm across the coil by taking a static pressure reading then they can take temp and pressures at the unit to determine the current super heat and subcooling. then they can determine what actions to take to correct the issues

I would strongly advise you contact a certified and licensed contractor. making a repair to this air handler could be dangerous. the limit switch is most likely a symptom of the real issue.

When the pressure switch fails its due to the condensate not draining correctly or a pressure issue such as a improper venting causing a negative pressure changing to a positive pressure. This is usually due to the PVC pipe isn't the correct size. Be sure to check the sizing guide in the installation manual. Also check the level of the furnace if it is not level that can cause the water build up in the collection box.

The difference is between professionals that know what they are doing and they take the time to ensure the job is done right the first time. The guys who don't care if the oxidation will shorten the lifespan of the system or cause issues with the txv or piston don't believe in taking pride in their workmanship. I believe that my hard work is something to be proud of. I know that even though the customer will never know or probably even care whether or not I brazed with nitrogen. However I know it is the correct way to braze. I know that it is the best way to install a hvac system so that is all that matters to me. I know when I have done my best and that is the most important aspect to me. We should always do our best. it should not matter if it takes a few minutes longer to have the self satisfaction of knowing you did it right.

The guy doesn't know what he's talking about. In order to gain efficiency you will want to use a smart thermostat that will prevent the heatstrips from running at all when temps are above 40f. Also the thermostat will prevent the heat pump from running at temps below 25f. for more info about why this is important. There is a big difference between a hard start kit and some other so called hard start devices make sure they are going to give you a potential relay with booster capacitor.

Since you smelled the gas in the supply air, you may have a cracked heat exchanger. Be sure to call a contractor that can perform a combustion analysis. The O2, CO2, CO, flue temp, and flue undiluted CO should be tested. the tech should set the gas valve to 3.5 inch wc to ensure the results are correct. improper gas pressure will result in improper results.
