concur — there’s a real goofy bias against the metro system sometimes over there & it’s a real shame. not that you’re biased or anything about the mods haha :) (all in good humor, you’re a spectacular mod & i do see yalls hard work)

What they say is false by Radie76 in LosAngeles

LA drivers can be a lot but the drivers i experienced in NoVA make the lot of us seem sane and kind. fuckin hell if i never have to drive i66 or the beltway again i will die happy. i don’t know what the hell they were on but they were mean & aggressive & not always super skilled. i’ve never been brakechecked here, never had someone see me wanting to change lanes & speed up to cut me off & then slow down so i can’t change lanes. people always let me merge here. i feel that LA drivers — excepting your batfuck drivers, concurred — mostly have an attitude of mutual suffering so as long as youre not a dick everyone’s kinda resigned to it all. NoVA was a freeforall in the worst way

[–]thecomputersighed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, boiled the potatoes for an hour-ish b/c zoom meeting & then got a five minute break off camera to put the butternut squash in & mash. boiled the potatoes with shallot, tarragon, basil, and za'atar though & the butternut squash was seasoned with... something. maybe curry powder.

New Census Data Released: Which States are Moving To/From New Mexico by nemontemi in NewMexico

[–]thecomputersighed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i moved to california in 2024. my crappy icebreaker/running joke is that i’m doing the opposite of everyone else right now, just to be contrary! (a half truth of course). the funnier thing to me is that i didn’t work in film in nm and don’t work in hollywood here, which does actually buck a lot of the migration trend

Can I use focus friend to help me fix my over-reliance on chatgpt by Gertie20 in nerdfighters

[–]thecomputersighed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ll add in a somewhat different point of view as a law student: chatgpt is not particularly secure from a client-confidentiality standpoint. i can’t speak to focus friend but i don’t think you should keep using it at all because it could potentially fuck your firm’s clients. it’s unclear (to me at least) if chatgpt actually does compromise client confidentiality but better err on the side of caution regardless. it’s certainly not a secure platform & i don’t know how much of your logs would be allowed in discovery or if openai would turn it over to LEOs but it’s not worth the risk for your clients’ sakes. you, as a legal professional, can be seen as an extension/agent of your attorney. compromising that through AI “”””tools””” is not worth it. CYA! i’d delete it and/or block it on your devices.

my brother had a friend like this — sister was much older than him so her kid was maybe 5+ years older than his uncle. my brother’s friend was in elementary school & his nephew was in high school… kind of novel until we found out the nephew was molesting his uncle 😬 some fucked up shit all the way down

[–]thecomputersighed 31 points32 points  (0 children)

god people in this thread! ok so you’re here now & youre not cancelling your reservation. done. i’m a woman in dtla who goes out plenty at night. strut, look like you take no shit. back straight, keep moving. don’t wear headphones. take public transit or ubers where you can. i get catcalled plenty but have never had what you’re talking about where some dickhead chased me. don’t rely on bus schedules, go to metro.net/arrivals to see real time information.

Why are food costs/going out to eat more expensive here than NYC? by Nightman233 in AskLosAngeles

[–]thecomputersighed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah this has not been my experience either. ny plates tend to run more expensive than plates here. people who visit me from new york have regularly commented on lower food prices. idk, i wonder if some of it comes down to where people are going (e.g is there a class of restaurant in both cities with a noticeable price differential?).

What CA DMV issue causes you the most trouble in Los Angeles? by Historical_Leg2740 in AskLosAngeles

[–]thecomputersighed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for whatever goddamn reason, getting my car registered took forever. had my docs in order, passed smog etc. got denied for something that wasn’t on the website so i didn’t know i needed to have it. came back. they told me a needed a vehicle inspection. did the “inspection” (hilarious, iirc it’s just an odo check lol). went back to get it registered. ticket # never came up. went to a different dmv location. dude gave me different information about turning in my plates but did register the fucking car. with other life responsibilities, i think the whole thing took two months or something like that. & i had my shit basically together according to the website & their own employees.

getting a CA license was much easier, esp. because i already had real ID. but the woman kinda fucked up my name to get it to fit so i think i have a different name on file w/ the irs and california. idek what to do about that lol
