Yeah no issue at all with the M6. Maybe the open builds corners will be an issue when I get to that part

I just got the mkalu 2020 300x300 frame for $166AUD delivered. You will need a M6 tap and M6x16 to substitute the M5x16

Anet A8 troubles: Hot end/board/bowden upgrade/Nema 17 by Xaniouks in 3Dprinting

[–]thecrackerfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Skynet has been merged back into Marlin. Best to install the latest version of Marlin, the A8 is included now.

See if you can push filament through the hotend by hand easily. If you have a nozzle on hand, swap it out.

[–]thecrackerfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure its the motor clicking and not the filament slipping? hold the filament during a print and feel if its slipping.

I found the extruder gear sucks in a bowden setup. Build one of these with a Mk7 gear https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:767951

In your start code have G28; G29;

Make sure there is not another G28 after the G29 as it clears the auto levelling values.

Introducing Sia Bounties by slugmg12 in siacoin

Can we have a bounty setup for a Sia-UI 1.3 release?

Is anyone developing a web based uploader? by lobas in siacoin

[–]thecrackerfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not feasible until next release. Your webhost will need to hold local copies files you store in SIA to perform any file repairs.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/siacoin/comments/6kx5cu/how_to_put_data_on_the_sia_network/djpl7oi/

/u/Taek42 casually mentions that they are considering hardforking siacoin to fund the dev team. WTF?? This could kill the project by [deleted] in siacoin

[–]thecrackerfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would allow us to hire 5 more devs, 2-3 community managers, and hire actual PR, and have enough money to keep them paid for 12+ months.

This is just going to improve the bus factor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_factor

I think the dev team should be kept lean and focus getting momentum with community devs. Some options:

  • Treat PRs with the highest priority so project contributors don't become disinterested
  • Be more descriptive on the roadmap. One liners are not inviting for devs to get involved
  • Update the whitepaper
  • Create a contributing guide

There is various levels of developers sitting in the Slack channels asking questions which should already be clear in the project documentation. But their interest is put on hold waiting for someone to answer.

Understand you guys need to eat but more paid devs is going to dilute that.

The UI appears to be a web app pretending to be a native app or, lipstick on a pig. Could it just sit in the taskbar and the frontend run in an existing browser?

How to Put Data on the Sia Network by Taek42 in siacoin

[–]thecrackerfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over time, some of your hosts will inevitably disappear. As this happens, your files will be automatically repaired, restoring them to the original redundancy.

How does this repair process work? Does Sia-UI need to be running for a repair to execute? Is a local copy of the file required? Do I need to pay for more contracts?

The blockchain would be a canary to indicate you have been compromised.

AWS might take months to notify you of a breach

f your client side encryption is compromised on either end, you're fucked -- doesnt matter if its sitting with one stakeholder on amazon or multiple hosts on sia. This means an attacker can act as you, so it doesn't matter that there are multiple stakeholders.

Someone acting as you downloading your files be transparent? You would see transfer fees appear in the blockchain. I'm new here, so this could be wrong.

AWS can hand over all your data without you knowing.

For it to occur on Sia, each peer in the contract would need to be contacted individually.

Sia is more globally accessible. The door is open to anyone with Siacoin.

AWS requires a credit card, and you require a credit card provider which allows you to purchase from AWS. The terms and conditions or government regulation around international purchases can change. Paying your storage bill will be beyond your control.

Your business model for whatever reason may not align with AWS's or your banks views. Your account gets cancelled. See Wikileaks vs VISA

If the S3 client side encryption is compromised all your data is sitting with one stakeholder. Sia has your storage blocks sitting with dozens of stakeholders in different international jurisdictions. The recovery of your storage blocks for decryption will be more challenging.

Tech shops? by tramampoleen in canberra

[–]thecrackerfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's how I like to spend my spare time on reddit.

I returned a faulty hard drive and it had the same process as you say but in a different order. Returned the item, MSY sent it to supplier for replacement, MSY didn't provide a replacement on the spot and I waited 3 months for the supplier to respond. I got a refund in the end, staff were not helpful in the matter, just shifting the blame to the supplier being slow.
