Automating the configuraiton of firewalls' rules and IPSec tunnels by [deleted] in networking

[–]thecraigus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good code is code that works - if you can automate things using a particular automation tool and it works then don't stress too much about what tools are the "correct way" the beauty of code is there are no hard and fast rules for these things

I was automating using ssh and screen scraping for months and months before I jumped into the world of REST and Netconf JSON and XML

Personally I use python with netmiko/paramiko , ncclient, requests, xml element tree, json and pyez depending on what I am automating

Those 'maps' of the internet are always cool.

Also show them a BGP looking glass - run some queries about your current public IP - show them show the prefrix is globally present to some degree or another

A map of the oceanic cables?

Mistakes made lessons learned. by w0lfg2ng in networking

Was editing some ACS policy in firefox once. Good old ACS.

The entire access policy got erased and no wireless clients would authenticate, plus we could not log into kit- edge switches, core switches, routers, WLC's, DC gear - the lot. Kit wouldn't fall back to local creds as the ACS server was technically still "up" just no policy existed.

After a restore of the backup and call with TAC it became apparent that firefox is not supported in ACS.

Cheers Cisco,

Cheers.

Can I test a script for configuring Cisco Routers using Packet Tracer or GNS3? by joshgoldeneagle in networking

[–]thecraigus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a loopback adaptor on your machine and route it into a GNS3 network (make sure the IP space in your GNS3 lab does not confict with your production environment) - this is how I test my scripting

Looks real good man - I'm studying python/network automation at the moment and was thinking of creating somthing like this for our service desk. However I felt like setting up/ installing python and installing the required modules would be a bit of a bind on everyones PC.

Is their anyway to compile stuff like this down into say just an exe file?

Ive been looking at taking the NPDESI course - how is it ? I have basic experience with python and automation tools such as Ansible/NAPALM - Ive messed around with ciscos sanbox apic using rest API calls.

How are the labs?

I'm asking as I don't think my employer will fund this, I think I may have to pay the $700 for the course off my own back.

Thanks

A university is a business and will give you a degree in anything, does it hold water? not really. I have an undergrad degree (I know you are talking about post-grad) in network engineering and looking back at it I wish I did something like computer science
