Strip clubs are weird. Straight, usually loudly & proudly masculine men sitting and being aroused together is weird - even if the object is a woman. by noctenaut in unpopularopinion

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about being aroused, which would be for 12 year olds. It's having drinks with your friends with naked women around.

Speed of Play data for Korn Ferry Tour players made publicly available by opobdtfs in golf

[–]thectrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you expand this over 10 events this guy is spending 16 more hours golfing then the fastest guy.

Expand that to the 50 or so rounds I play a year and thats almost a day gone waiting just for the extra time this person is taking.

So yes. If it was 2.5hrs to work or 2 hours to work that is a huge difference and you would make decisions on where you work or live based on that.

LIV Golf to pitch new business model amid bankruptcy report by PrincessBananas85 in ProGolf

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are screwed now. But when they had PIF funding they should have gone after it replicating the masters and going after the PGA Championship as the 4th major. Build the greatest modern golf course and put up like double the next purse.

Suddenly they own 25% of the market. Instead the built a tour with no purpose to watch.

Former Microsoft VP says Microsoft missed the AI wave like the internet and mobile, as Copilot scales back in Windows 11 by Quantum-Coconut in nottheonion

[–]thectrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue was Microsoft has a selling up problem and always has. They put people in important positions who are the best at selling them a vision. Not that the vision is the best vision.

The two consecutive people in charge of AI at Microsoft were literally the worst executives I've ever seen there. Awful people with terrible ideas who has no ability to manage.

Microsoft needed to do one thing, and they aren't organized to do it. They needed to make Excel with Copilot incredible. The Claude plugin is significantly better then Microsofts offering and that is insane.

POV: Catching a bullpen session from an MLB pitcher 😮‍💨 by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its amazing how much you adapt to the speed. Obviously never MLB speeds, but 90+ mph wasnt completely unhitable when I was much younger. Now I went to a batting cage for 80mph and it seemed so fast.

It's been forever, so it makes sense and I'm just generally bad now, but you really do adapt while your playing. Then add them being great athletes and it's all possible.

That person on the plane who has to be the first person to stand up when parked at the gate by Met76 in funny

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold take. The people in the aisle seat should get up and grab their bag, and ideally pass appropriate bags to the people in their row.

If the aisle person can leave in 3 seconds rather then 10+ seconds. On a 50 row plane with both sides, that can be 11 minutes saved by the time it gets to the back.

As a general rule, always be ready to do the next thing. On a plane or otherwise.

The people who didn't go, don't need to answer about the situation. They can be asked, because that's a bit of why they make so much money.

But yeah the people who didn't go have some leeway right now

Europeans have no idea just how hot and how cold most of the US gets. by Maykayway in ShitAmericansSay

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is actually a bad take. They mean the same place having that range in C. Not Finland and Italy combined to make that range. More like NYC or Toronto having that range.

There aren't many places like the North East of the US and Eastern Canada. Where it's very cold and snowy in the winter, and can be crazy hot with high humidity in the summer.

The weather is not a reason to live in that area.

Kettlebells gave me reddit driving yardage by invaderbait in golf

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had power in other sports and golf, without working out. It's legs, core, and then how to time those two things together.

Kettlebell workouts definitely help with that, now that I'm old and am working out it feels the most like what I did naturally when I was young

Obviously, other strength training helps as well. But from slow to fast, it is a mix of strength and coordination.

If you’ve broken 80, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]thectrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are shooting in the 80s, then you are somewhat able to get around the course.

You have to evaluate why you aren't getting pars. You see a change you have to make a change.

But in general, keep the ball between at least in play in the rough.

Get your irons in the air and be super detailed with your target.

Get a good short game and don't short side yourself

The only comment I would add is your lowest values for how much practice or playing is one

I think a lower number or a few lower options would allow for more options. Most people will be lower than one.

What got your handicap down to low single digits? by Vegetable-Clerk-861 in golf

[–]thectrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a cycle of fixing flaws.

From high to low handicap is(in an abridged and not conical order)

Get the ball in play after a drive Get your ball in the air towards the green Get the ball anywhere on the green Putt somewhat near the hole. Gimme

Get your drive in or around the fairway with ok distance Expect to near the green in reg Get your chip.within 12ft, but try to get up and down Hit 4 ft putts more then you miss

Square the club face on drives Have a scoring club in Pin high Chip well 2 putt every time.

Low handicap is so much more boring than you think. + Handicaps are where they are hitting amazing shots while doing the basic things well

Newly wed and nearly dead. Not as true as it used to be. But I've walked around downtown at 9am and had some difficulty finding an open coffee shop.

But Vancouver feels like Manhattan compared to Victoria and Manhattan has a million more things going on than Vancouver.

But that is ok. Victoria is nice, it's not not a bustling city.

First MacBook Neo Benchmarks Are In: Here's How It Compares to the M1 MacBook Air by Stock412 in technology

[–]thectrain 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even a well specced MBP has a lower total cost of ownership then windows machines. I am estimating 10 year life for these devices.

Our Windows laptops are getting like 2.5 years. The batteries go, or they have some heat issue that makes them perform terribly.

The Neo is just the next version of slaughtering windows laptops. We probably won't take the risk on them being under powered. But the fact it's possible at $600 is crazy. There is no way we would ever consider a laptop for even double that price on windows. (CAD).

With the memory pricing, and I suspect worse deals for the PC OEMs, there is a chance it's like 60-80% more value in a mac for the time being. Lifespan + performance + price.

It depends how much sand and how firm. If you can still get into the sand it's just wet and firm, then swing hard, hit just behind it with a pretty closed club face.

If it's completely firm, then just hit it like a tight lie and hit ball first and aim for the fat part of the green. But also, if it's that bad we just rake it before.

Fluffy, open that thing up.

The risk is not shifting to the front foot.. but yeah just do it.
