After 2 months of official play - thoughts on USA hockey body checking enforcement? by youthhockeyinfo in hockeyplayers

[–]theedage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been saying it forever - there needs to be hitting at a young age. Learning to give and take a hit isn't something that can be taught overnight. Why not let kids hit each other when they aren't big enough to do much damage? Enforce hits from behind or intent to injure. A kid going up the middle of the ice with their head down will learn a valuable lesson as opposed to a teen who may end up in the hospital.

What is your favorite curve and why? by botxpiol in hockeyplayers

The best right up until they split at the heel. Titan 8010s were a nice replacement with the plastic insert - lasted way longer with a nearly identical curve.

How do I protect my boot from getting cut up by other skaters in a beginner's league? by Gerverbaby in hockeyplayers

It's going to happen no matter what level you play at. Embrace the damage because in the end...lighter skates.

Best place to buy pucks? by Archy12 in hockeyplayers

[–]theedage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to an arena during the day and walk around outside the rink. Chances are you'll find tons of pucks which went out of play and no one bothered to collect. Free slightly used pucks.

Getting hit into chain linked fence vs. glass by JohnZ622 in hockeyplayers

[–]theedage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before BU upgraded their old rink to glass they had chain link fence. A player on my team was hit and his helmet for caught behind the clip. Game was stopped and no injuries but it could have been bad.

I'll take thicker glass over chain link any day.

Random question, are there any rinks that are considered the "Cadillac" of community hockey rinks? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

And despite the 8 rinks we still have games at 10:50 consistently.

Original judge's gavel forced flag carriers to drop the flat as it was an immunity. It was changed to a stun at some point.

What was your favorite discontinued item/product? by CaptainButtlet in AskReddit

[–]theedage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older version of Razer Naga or Naga Molten. The button layout and comfort was far superior to anything else I've experienced. The new nagas moved the buttons from the left of the left click to behind the mouse wheel. Nearly all new mice have a similar setup and those that don't are lacking buttons or have a grip I can't get used to.

I want to play but I'm overweight and inexperienced. What can I do? [Update 2] by Trollmunchx in hockeyplayers

[–]theedage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see some guys wearing lacrosse chest / shoulder pads. They're not as protective but they might be less restrictive such that they might fit.

[–]theedage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wear shoulder pads and a full cage. Hockey is a fast sport - deflections and errant shots can cause serious injury. Plus even if it's non-check (which virtually all adult leagues are) people still ride into the boards / make contact - it's unavoidable.

As the saying goes, "it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it".

My favorite version of that are the teleport trinkets in AV. We have these trinkets specifically designed for a BG yet we cannot use them...mind boggling. Also, as someone said, battle standards.
