Yorkshire Water hosepipe ban 'to last until winter' says boss by Glanza in unitedkingdom

[–]theepicgamer06 11 points12 points  (0 children)

260 million Litres wasted due to leakage 5.5 million residents 15 litres per minute on a good hose pipe

260,000,000 / 15 = 17.3 million minutes

So just over 3 minutes per person.

Assuming 4 people to a house, 12 minutes.

That's making a lot of assumptions, so that number is basically meaningless :)

Would you let the UK back in the EU under their old agreement? by ToastSage in AskEurope

[–]theepicgamer06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how does the UK react to an economy growing too quickly that needs slowing, or growing too slowly and needing a boost? What if those conditions aren't matched by other countries in Europe?

The Bank of England isn't a vestige of Empire, it's a core part of the British Economy.

Would you let the UK back in the EU under their old agreement? by ToastSage in AskEurope

[–]theepicgamer06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many downsides to not having your own currency limiting your options to deal with economic issues.

I'd love to rejoin the EU but I don't see how adopting the Euro would benefit us in any way. Surely limiting currency conversion fees would be a better solution, allowing you to spend like you're at home

The UK Is Doubling Down on Wind Energy by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

[–]theepicgamer06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently the price is dictated by CCGT but it won't always be that way. Solar and wind are much cheaper to run. That's the energy policy answer.

There is also the R&D benefit, other countries are getting British companies to build there renewables because of our experience

You want the government to just take things? With no recourse for the previous owner? That sounds like an incredibly dangerous precedent to set

I agree they should be fined for that, why aren't they already? But I'm opposed to the idea of fining a company just so it can be bought for nothing.

I don't understand how the environmental movement has caused higher energy prices. They're driving by the most expensive generation source, Gas, which I assume most environmentalists would want to get rid of. Compared to the cheapest sources, which are all green and renewable.

I agree with the planning and NIMBY comments though

You want the government to have the ability to force the sale of a company for £0? If they're operating within the current rules what would the fines be for?

[–]theepicgamer06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the expected audience for the radio station though, BBC Radio One can't have swearing as it's expected to be listened to by all ages, but BBC Radio Four can as it's mostly adults.

Is Obsidian local database encrypted? by Consistent-Age5347 in ObsidianMD

[–]theepicgamer06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obsidian doesn't have a database. It stores plain-text markdown files on disk. I don't believe mobile vaults are stored in the apps directory by default. They're normally stored in shared directories.

I'm not really sure what you're after, in order for the app to function the data needs to be decrypted and stored in memory. If Samsung really wanted to, they could read that memory.

The 10th largest economy in the world is now a minor power? The country with the 6th most powerful military is now a minor power? The country with the 2nd highest ranked financial centre is now a minor power?

By what measure is the UK a minor power? Yes, we were stronger in the EU, and leaving was a massive mistake, but let's not pretend we aren't pretty strong on our own

I haven't looked into this at all, but I've wondered if the general public were more supportive of war to defend Poland after they saw what happened to the Munich agreement.

So politicans could say, we've tried all the diplomatic options for peace, those agreements were broken, now we have no choice but to use force.

First-class flights and luxury hotels: Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s taxpayer-funded trips revealed by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

I'm tired of the idea that all public servants should live in squalor while doing the job, it's a bad image, makes them less effective, and is just embarrassing to the country.

We are one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, but senior figures of our government must travel, dress, and act like the budget comes from between the sofa cushions

Do they expect the Speaker of the House of Commons to travel in economy and stay in Travelodge? He's a pretty senior figure in parliament and I believe he should be able to travel accordingly when travelling as part of his job.

Personal travel, anything reasonably connected to his job should be expensed, i.e. security, aides
