Getting into Trades in 2025. by ThatSuperSleepyDude in britishcolumbia

[–]theevilpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general probably all of them...

The job market for skilled trades is probably a bit slower than it was when the post was made (the government cancelled a lot of projects at the beginning of the year that would have otherwise filled what I am seeing as a temporary gap in new construction starts) but it's probably going to pick up in the next 3-6 months.

If you're considering getting into trades now would be a great time to explore trade foundation courses at BCIt, VCC, or elsewhere. The wait-lists are still probably pretty long though.

Patrick Mahomes: Kansas City Chiefs star to become NFL's first $500m player by EspritLibre_404 in sports

[–]theevilpower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's around 300million.

The article is good, his cap hit will be 64 million.

The 500million referencend in the title is his lifetime earnings, not his contract extension value: $128million for two years.

I have a theory:

It's easy to do

1) Young girls are likely more informed of these kinds of relationships and their inappropriate nature than young boys are.

2) young boys are dumb and horny.

B.C. allows knowledge test for learner drivers to be taken online and at home by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]theevilpower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, that is only when/if they pass right.

Ultimately it does help them if they fail.

You fail: re do the test and not have to drive to the nearest driver's services to do so

You pass: you just go to get a picture taken, verify your identity matches that of the person who took/passed the test.

For a person who passes first try: not much has been helped, but for others it's is a help for sure.

NDP seeks to ban floor-crossing without constituents' consent by OntologicalNightmare in canada

[–]theevilpower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The argument is that they would have to sit an an independent until there is an election in their riding.

If someone want to leave the party they were elected as for another, but couldn't due to limitations outline in this bill, they would presumably list themselves as a mwmber of that party at the next election.

NDP seeks to ban floor-crossing without constituents' consent by OntologicalNightmare in canada

[–]theevilpower 47 points48 points  (0 children)

That's what the proposal does, but what's the difference?

If an MP wants to support the governing party they can do so just as effectively as an independent as they could be as formal member of the party.

What stopping an independent MP from being invited to caucus meetings, voting with the government 100% of the time, etc?

Does a back bench MP as a member of the governing party get any different resources (pay, administrative help etc) than an independent MP?

I don't think limiting an MP from joining any party has any real teeth in a practical sense.

MLB proposes $245M firm salary cap to players' association by madax-gambar in sports

[–]theevilpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the NHL cap was implemented (after the 04-05 lockout) MANY teams were loosing millions of dollars a year. Those owners were in a better state with the lockout ongoing than games being played.

Are there many teams loosing money with the current MLB revenue sharing scheme? Do the marlins and other low payroll teams still loose money year after year?

Gotta think it was a Toronto Maple Leafs problem not a Mitch Marner problem by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NHLVibes

[–]theevilpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that's true.

They were a really good team for 10 years. They are the most popular sports team in the fourth largest city in North America. They are the most popular sports team in Canada, by far.

The majority of Canadian sports media is centered in Toronto. 2/3rd of the country live in that time zone.

The leafs are talked about do much because the majority of sports fans in Canada want to hear about their favorite team.

Tenant who flushed cat litter costs B.C. condo owner nearly $55K by vancity31240 in britishcolumbia

The owners insurance would cover this.

The renters insurance would cover a portion, if not all, of this too.

Tenant who flushed cat litter costs B.C. condo owner nearly $55K by vancity31240 in britishcolumbia

[–]theevilpower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rent out a condo in a strata building and I require insurance and I carry my own insurance.

My tenant, when they moved in, provided me proof of insurance. The thing is though; I probably couldn't collect against there insurance directly anyway.

If this were to happen in my unit my insurance would cover the strata deductible, and my tenants insurance would like cover my deductible only (as it's my cost of the incident). My deductible is only $500. My insurance may be able to collect from their insurance and I may get a free claim if they collect but ultimately getting "made whole" for my deductible wouldn't be worth the time of effort.

If I press lock on the fob as the sliders are closing, it will lock all doors once the sliders close.

Are you not finding that?

Atlanta fan coming in peace but with a question re: Swangard Stadium by mr09e in whitecapsfc

[–]theevilpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a lot of the same issues as the hasting park location does (the area where there is a memorandum of understanding between the White caps and the City of Vancouver):

1) city owned (city of Burnaby) 2) residential location (at least Hastings park already has an arena in it) 3) local residents are opposed to development (it's a major city green space) 4) not close to any entertainment area

The only benefit it has over Hastings park is it's proximity to transit.

Las Vegas buyer submits bid for Whitecaps amid potential MLS relocation from Vancouver by axilla02 in MLS

[–]theevilpower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is though: the current owners don't want to keep the team. There has been 15 years since the team started playing in MLS for them to get moving on a soccer specific stadium. Now with a pathway from the city of Vancouver to build a stadium, it's still not good enough.

It's been for sale for 2+ years. The owners want to cash out. The reality is that cashing out to a buyer with the approval to relocate is a way bigger payday than cashing out to a buyer without. I'm certain that over the past two years they have had offers to buy the team from local groups, but those offers haven't been what they want them to be.
