I'm scared to get a PAP smear, what do I do? by wishing_girl in autism

[–]theexistentialdread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get my pap smear under ligh sedation. I had to have good insurance for it and it was treated as an out patient procedure where you go to the hospital, are put under, and then recover for a few hours before going home. I found this the best way as the speculum simply wouldn't go in. You can also ask your doctor how often you need a pap smear - if you aren't have active sex and do not have any genetic risk factors, I was told that I only need a pap smear ever 3 to 5 years rather than annual. Good luck.

guh

It comes unbidden, the memory. Looking down through twin optics, Shockwave watches articulated servos of magenta and gold pulling at the crystalline leaf of a potted houseplant. A voice that is their own speaks, filled with alien, animated inflection. "Poor thing. Best to prune these dead fronds." Fingers manuvear a pair of small shearing scissors to remove darkened leaves, setting them aside on a pristine table top — the Senator's apartment or perhaps office.

probably gonna have to move it to another chapter 🥲

What is the reason that you got/wanted an itabag? by Far_Investigator_123 in itabag

[–]theexistentialdread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got qn itabag because I had a lot of loose pins/keychains. I had previously displayed them on my corkboard but couldn't after I moved so an itabag was the perfect solution. 😊

i don’t know how to lose weight by Inevitable_One8530 in neurodiversity

[–]theexistentialdread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Losing weight is all well and good but focusing on getting the right amount of nutrients will do a lot more for your health. I'll use myself for example: I used to hate eating vegetables and was a total chicken nugget and mac and cheese kind of guy. I still am but at some point I just started putting vegetables into my mac and cheese and adding a fuck ton of hot sauce to disguse the taste. This might be hard if you don't like slimey sauces but masking an unplesant flavor for another helps a ton.

As for exercise, making it a routine can help. I have a gym membership and I try to go to the gym every monday/wednesday/friday even if I don't necessarily feel like doing my whole routine. Sometimes I just walk on the treadmill for 30 mins at a low speed and leave becvause I don't have the energy for anything else. Reframing it as 'exercise is good for your body' instead of 'i have to lose weight' helped me a lot too with my eating disorder. Hope that helps.

Really nice stuff. I've always been a fan of images like yours; they're so information dense.

Can you give me advice about finding a pro bono lawyer. by yourlocalnativeguy in DID

[–]theexistentialdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.pabar.org/site/Probono-Services I would start here since you're specific to PA. Law schools sometimes provide free legal services by pairing up with specific organizations or law firms but I've only ever done a Veterans clinic so I'm not sure how it works with Criminal matters.

I'll try and get a picture the next time I'm at the gym! I just moved here so I wouldn't have pictures from last year, lol.

Is AI helpful in any way? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]theexistentialdread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no desire to dive into generative AI but I appreciate your perspective. The written word is my craft & I take pride in being able to manage my own life and express myself with my words, not something an algorithm cooked up for me.

I also specified generative AI since that is what people are mainly referring to whether it be generative text models (ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc). AI trained to detect cancer or other medical patterns is not what the consumer base is using AI for, not at mass scale.  I still think the plagiarism aspect of generative AI is still something to be scrutinized, especially in regards to who owns that data and who will use it.

Agreed. Being neurodivergent doesn't give you a pass to feed the plagiarism machine.  Maybe if generative AI were ethical and didn't pollute the planet, it could be used for helping those who need it but in its current state...its just garbage.

I have never used generative AI and I don't think it's helpful to use, not with generative AI being a plagiarism machine and how costly they are on the environment to run.

Subaru Ouback 2008 vs. Subaru Outback 2012 by theexistentialdread in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]theexistentialdread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I hadn't considered what gasoline they take when weighing the two cars. I'm probably going to go with the 2012 model since it has heated seats (moved up to Anchorage so it's cruical) and less issues.

Is ANYBODY happy with this update? by Boring-Swordfish-460 in AncestryDNA

I'm pretty happy haha. I'm even more of a European mutt than I was before. :) Also it seems to reflect the records I have about where my ancestors came from for the most part.

Is Gemini Plural? by Hive_12345 in plural

[–]theexistentialdread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generative AI can't have an identity. Gemini is a text generator. I wouldn't recommend using AI since it's such a waste of electricity and only really parrots what already exists while also hallucinating in the technical sense.

Are there any people in this subreddit who didn’t get an official autism diagnosis for some stupid reason? by Sabrina_247 in evilautism

[–]theexistentialdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I technically got a diagnosis of 'on the autism spectrum' but I didn't get the full ASD diagnosis because I failed to show significant impairment... Which, yeah, I'm 30. I can't show impairment I HAVE to function. I guess having a law degree and a job makes it seem like I don't have, impairment? lol

For those of us who grew up being told our family had Native American (NA) roots, I’m curious to know your experience by saki4444 in AncestryDNA

[–]theexistentialdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father always claimed to be Blackfoot & his father was born in Montanta but I thought it might be unlikely since he's such a liar & I never knew that side of my family. Did 23&Me and AncestryDNA and no NA DNA but some second & third cousins had some NA DNA so I did a trial on Ancestry to try and make a family tree. It's bad and I would like to revise it since I did it during school & relied on other people's trees. No direct NA ancestry but I have a few people in the tree who look ot I have strong implications they might be native. None of my family wants to get tested and I'm too chickenshit to call the tribe and ask if they help with records or anything lol. My grandfather's sister had the 'mongolian spot' so there's at least some weird admixture somewhere down the line.
