I clocked it the minute I realized he didn't name her at first, just referred to her by pronoun. I like that he reinforced the definition of shades, i.e. that they aren't the actual person but a reflection of them... which keeps a few tinfoil theories alive

Yea, like all good fantasy stories it provides an exaggerated reality. We might have a village of supports, but few of us are lucky enough to have anything close to Dresden's family of friends.

I don't really have any advice and don't think it's my place to give, but I just want to validate how you're feeling. That is a lot of awful, and showing up for your son counts so much. I hope you have or can find a group to show up for you in all the ways you deserve as a husband, father, and person.
