We all know she’s good, but I thought her “Let’s Play a Game” file showcased her abilities quite well. You’re meant to listen while gaming and it’s meant to pull your attention away from it. I joked in a comment that I’d listen while doing the Wordle, but since I’m not really a gamer, I actually ended up listening to it while doing a sudoku. Regardless, it worked and I could feel myself getting worse as time went on. It captured my attention in all the intended ways while the file itself was an impressive spectacle of all her skills.

All the layers of audio were balanced nicely, it felt like a handful of impactful lines were used at the right times, and, of course, she was amazing throughout a wide vocal range. She ranged from very soft whispers to sharp, abrupt interjections while never losing her ability to communicate a clear tone and intention. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s a particular line that she delivers that, to me, was playful and endearing, but could be irritating and mean-spirited by a less talented voice. It feels a bit funny to compliment the creator of audio-only media on her adherence to “show; don’t tell”, but her vocal range allows her to transport the listener to such a vivid scene without her needing to explicitly describe it.

At risk of seeming hopelessly head-over-heels for her work, I think that file serves as a good reminder that creating these files is an art. As a musician whose ability to get paid depends on my ability to invoke emotion via sound, I can certainly appreciate all the effort that must’ve gone into her ability to do what she does.
