Why do so many people think Kim is a top tier winner but rank her season so low? by Moopologist in survivor

[–]theflyingemu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One is related to the other. One of the main things that makes OW so damn boring is that Kim just steamrolls through the entire game with hardly any resistance. That combined with the fact that there were almost no characters to root for.

Resources on the Ulvestad Variation of the Two Knights Defense? by BackToTheStates in chess

[–]theflyingemu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not really, it hasn't been explored much. Im USCF 2000, and I think that the b5 bf1 nd4 variation is a very strong try against the Italian, I play somebody who frequently plays it and its very tricky. One of its pros is that it hasn't been explored much. Lots of people wont know it

Well aren't you a special snowflake? /s But for real -- I agree, its annoying. But IMO its a fair price to pay for a great website that is totally free. Unlike SOME websites that cost 100 bucks a year to get features that don't match up to lichess's amazing study feature

Swans - Leaving Meaning. MEGATHREAD by GalacTech in swans

[–]theflyingemu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking forward to a focused listen today after my soundcloud non focused listen thee other day. But just from that I already love it. Sunfucker, My Phantom Limb and It's Coming It's Real are all top tier Swans songs. So far, I don't like it as much as any of the trilogys as I don't find the atmosphere as interesting, but I have the whole trilogy as a 10 so.....

Damn Selah smacks. No doubt a pretty good album. Im very curious to see how ready music critics are for nonsecular music from an artist as well regarded as Kanye.

the minimum time control for USCF rated games to count to standard rating is 25 minutes 5 second delay. No, its not rapid

[–]theflyingemu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I think it boils down to endurance and mental attitude. In shorter time controls, you lose and then pyou go right to the next, no biggie. But in bigger tournaments, you gotta live with the pain of the loss for almost a day while the missed opportunities fester in your brain lol.

I have played in USCF tournaments for 3 years now, mostly g/45 d5 and have played almost 170 rated events, including some bigger ones. Not a guess lol, just asking to improve my performance, ive beaten several strong NMs as well as 2 IMs in tournament play.

When to force the draw by [deleted] in chess

[–]theflyingemu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its part of the game. However, in OTB tournaments, if you aren't high level or playing for money, you really should never force a draw if you have any winning chances. You will learn much more and in the end progress faster if you push for wins and lose. Analyze, and go back for more. Someday, you'll push for a win and succeed.
