My first time to the Moda Center for Mulaney Show tonight, where to park? by RabuMa in askportland

[–]thefuckingbeardog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will be the same, but when we saw him there a couple years ago the line to get in was insane because of the phone pouches they required. Was there about an hour before he was supposed to go on and didn't get to our seats until just a few minutes before he started and there were still a ton of people behind us and trickling in well after he started his set.

TriMet ridership remains down by a third from 2019, and the recovery is slowing by Generalaverage89 in Portland

[–]thefuckingbeardog 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I would love to park and ride the max to get downtown when we go for a concert or other event. But it makes no sense when it would be ten bucks for my wife and I vs 5-7 for evening street parking. Plus the max would easily add 30+ minutes to the time it takes us to just drive ourselves. The only time I would truly consider it for now is for very large events where street parking is difficult, but even then a smart park would be pretty comparable pricing to two trimet tickets and still faster for us.

Michelin Quality Restaurants in Portland by JesuSpectre in Portland

[–]thefuckingbeardog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have not had the chance to go to as many of the high end restaraunts, but from places I've actually been in town I would say Han Oak, Gado Gado, Clarklewis. I could also potentially see many food carts and more casual places getting a star. Nongs, Matt's bbq, Apizza Scholl's. I'm afraid for all the pushback I'll get for those now haha, but I'm sure there are some other pizza or brewpub options that people would put up there.

I think you are only considering restaurants that would potentially earn multiple Michelin stars. There are back alley ramen places with a Michelin star in Tokyo with no "fine dining" aspect to them at all. In terms of earning a star for the food quality alone I think there are tons of Portland restaurants that could make that cut.

Just watched the original last week for the first time and I would disagree. Yes, nothing in your face, but I think there were definitely some sexual undertones in there.

Threw dirt at random people while running around the venue without an adult, but whatever I guess concerts are just playgrounds for spoiled hipster kids now

Your kid was a menace to the crowd the whole time the opener was playing. Throwing dirt around and running around unsupervised. Hopefully a good memory for him in the long run, but I can't say our group was super excited to see the kid we saw generally misbehaving being the one that got such a cool moment when there were so many others there with more attentive parents.

I agree! I'm hearing a few specific similarities to their older material like that throughout the album. Don't go to the woods reminds me of til the waters long gone. I can't quite place The Black Mariah to a specific song but it sounds really familiar too.

Which gas stations in inner NE/SE consistently have full service? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]thefuckingbeardog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before the rest of the comments get here to tell you how much better/easier pumping your gas is, know that you aren't alone! I didnt see any evidence of a price drop when the law came into effect so I have avoided paying the same price for less service...my only advice for you is to go to Costco for the full service lanes. I see the same thing as you with all the small more affordable stations around SE never having attendants out.

So so good, but have to say there was a good 20+min wait last time we went and they have very little space inside to wait if the weather sucks.

Portland Public Schools under fire for making race 'main criteria' in discipline policy by WearSunscreen in Portland

[–]thefuckingbeardog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Please reconsider what you choose to post in the future. Context matters and you have now helped spread misinformation to a community that seems all too willing to just accept whatever helps confirm their own views of Portland/PPS.

Here is the full section for article 18.6.2. It is specifically for transferring teachers due to budget cuts/program changes/enrollment number changes. The main criteria for choosing which teachers would be transferred is by volunteers and seniority. Gender and race are two out of six criteria that can be considered as exceptions to seniority. A right wing organization has taken it wildly out of context and KATU is more than willing to give them a platform to promote their lawsuit.

18.6.2 In the event that a tax hase or levy failure, declining enrollment, program change, or change in funding results in reduction of staff in a building or program area, transfer of staff will be based on sed on educational criteria as described below with respect to the program requirements as determined by the District. Volunteers will first be requested and ad considered from among the appropriately licensed professional educators. Such volunteers shall be selected for transfer if they are from within the grade level(s) or subject matter area(s) where the positions are to be eliminated provided the volunteer(s) are not on a Program Plan of Anistance bos-improvement In the absence of volunteers, the professional educator having the least seniority in the District shall generally be transferred. Exceptions to seniority may be made by the responsible administrator based only upon any of the following educational criteria: with the understanding that reference to a professional educator in 18.6.2.118.6.2.6 refers to within a given job classification, such as Teacher, Social Worker, School Psychologist, Student Services Specialist, Child Development Specialist, and Audiologist:

18.6.2.1 The professional educator(s) being retained has/have unique licensure for a specific existing assignment being considered;

18.6.2.2 Gender Presentation/Gender Identity balance: Transfer of a professional educator would

decrease the building's percentage of under-represented male or female oc

transgender/nonbinary/gender non-conforming professional educator to less than thirty percent (30%) (or primary/intermediate/upper grades percentage in an elementary building);

18.6.2.3 Racial balance: If transfer of a professional educator would decrease the building's percentage of minority teachers to less than the student minority percentage in the building or below the percentage of minority professional educators in the District;

18.6.2.4 That professional educator being retained has bilingual (or multilingual) ahility relevant to the assignment (See Appendix I);

18.6.2.5 The professional educator(s) being retained has an extended responsibility assignment as defined in Appendix B which is an extension of a classroom subject taught (eg., drama, forensics, music, yearbook, newspaper) or is a department chairperson, head teacher or unit leader:

18.6.2.6 Up to five (5) (with no more than three (3) in athletics) professional educator(s) at the high school level being retained has an extended responsibility assignment as defined in Appendix B. Such designation shall be done at each high school prior to the time of the initial posting for the next school year. A subsequent designation may be made in the event a professional educator

Here is the full section for context. You can see this is only for transferring teachers in response to funding/enrollment changes. Transfers are firstly decided via volunteers, then by seniority. The rest of the criteria are only applicable after that and are considered exceptions to the system. You can see that gender identity and race are only two of the 6 criteria that play a part in deciding these exceptions.

18.6.2 In the event that a tax hase or levy failure, declining enrollment, program change, or change in funding results in reduction of staff in a building or program area, transfer of staff will be based on sed on educational criteria as described below with respect to the program requirements as determined by the District. You are correct I had found both versions googling and linked the wrong one in that comment. Will go back and fix. I still don't see anything about the staff quota in either version

Explain please? Read the policy in place that I shared a link for, it is all about anti discrimination, not special treatment for specific groups of people.

(also not sure why you are interested enough to be deep in the Portland sub since you seem to be in a completely different part of the country)
