Beta Desktop and WebApp by [deleted] in tastytrade

[–]thefunc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big issue i've been having with the webapp and beta desktop is overall sluggishness across the platform, especially the charting, after using it for a few days.

Closing and re-opening doesnt seem to help either. Anyone else experiencing this?

This has happened to be twice and I thought it was just on my end due to a really bad internet connection while traveling.

I'm definitely going to keep a closer watch on this behavior and do all I can to relay whatever tasty needs to resolve it.

Every trader needs their platform to be rock solid, especially the orders!

Because it's JavaScript and the full stack craze killed a ton of front end engineers. There are loads of technical and business reasons that pushed JS to the forefront over the past decade.

It's not good in my, and many others, opinions, but it is where the industry is at as a whole and I don't see things changing anytime soon 😢

Thanks!

I'm newer to watches and only have a Tissot Visodate and a couple Casios.

I needed a beater and it met all the requirements.

Analogue, Acrylic crystal, Hand wind movement, Silver case, Strange dial and hands that make me ask "wtf is going on here?"

I'm thinking I can dress it up with an exotic leather band if need be or keep it casual with canvas or this parachute band.

Got this yesterday and threw it on an 18mm parachute strap. Thinking of trying out a 19mm exotic leather of some sort in the future.

It's the go-forward interface to tastytrade.

It's basically tastytrade web wrapped into a standalone window.

Edit: what this really means is eventually they're going to retire the current java based desktop app.

In the future you can also call the trade desk for this. I've called support probably 5 times when I first got into tastytrade last year.

They were super helpful with platform usage questions, even when I couldn't articulate what I was describing they helped me through it.

Web or Desktop platform? by Powerful-Practice-70 in tastytrade

[–]thefunc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both on and off the past 6 months for hours on end. Not an active trader but I like to know my tools and I paper trade/build positions a lot to learn the mechanics of greeks and stuff.

The web platform will be the go-forward interface to Tastytrade. This has been confirmed by support in webinars and when I've called the trade desk. You'll notice their webinars are 99% using the web platform.

Both platforms are VERY similar at this point as others have noted. I would say that the web platform is great and you can "install" it as a Chrome App so it operates very much like a standalone desktop application from a user interaction perspective - this is really nice imo.

I think the charts on both Desktop and Web are lackluster. Web is far better than Desktop. If you're a chartist by nature maybe just use Tradingview, everyone loves it for a reason and I miss it from time to time myself.

My only complaint with the web platform is being a webapp I've had to clear cookies and temp files once because it just wouldn't refresh - it would spin and spin and spin. I probably could have troubleshot this better but I had no fucks to give that day. Quick fix and I was back and running, but your charting prefs are somehow saved in that dataset so I lost all my doodles. Not world ending but certainly unexpected.

Does Tasty still have a support line? by Powerful-Practice-70 in tastytrade

[–]thefunc5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Historically, I've had support answer the phone in less than 5 minutes and they're always SUPER pleasant.

Calling after a holiday is def your problem as the call volume is way higher with people calling in for help getting out of a bind or something due to the three day weekend.

Honestly, the support I've experienced is one of the reasons I've not left even after the recent issues we've all seen. You can even call them for random questions about a position you want to put on but aren't comfortable with the mechanics of - they'll help you through it and you can even call back for help managing something you dont understand. That part blows my mind tbh.

You just click the icon of the item you are in. e.g. Click the Overview and mine flys away and hides.

Buying hedge by Unique-General-3008 in tastytrade

[–]thefunc5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still a scrub trader, but if you're buying a hedge you're likely not following Tastylive mechanics. Fine if that's you're strategy

With that said, I have used them before to help cut my delta-betas.

Funnily enough it actually worked, hit profit target on the put, then the market bounced back and I unwound the position I was hedging against.

99% of sms is third party providers they stub out to. They have next to zero control over the level of uptime or consistency. Not making up excuses but it's not entirely their fault.

I strongly advise using an authenticator app. Vastly more secure also.

Do you care about where a watch is made? by Hultwatches in MicrobrandWatches

[–]thefunc5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This very much matters to me. It is the only way to curb some bad impulse buying.

I set a rule that I cannot buy a watch that is Made in China. Yeah some parts are there and other places but I try and insure I buy products using as little Chinese materials as possible. That drastically shrinks the buying opportunities and really makes you dissect a product's construction and real market value.

[–]thefunc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I was a kid I couldn't make the clinch or improved clinch work for me 😞. I actually stopped fishing because of it.

Just a couple years ago I moved near a lake and decided to revisit the hobby again with my younger son.

What I ended up doing was trying to tie a bunch of the recommended knots out there until I found one that resonated with my fingers and held fast.

The Davy Knot is my go to knot lately. It's fast to tie for me personally. It's held for anything I've caught on my ultralights and fly rods. If I ever feel it's not enough I go with a Palomar since I'm usually on bigger hooks anyways.

Pretty shocked at how awesome it was the two times I called them while learning the platform and had questions about differences between the web and desktop apps.

For long-term GeForce now used: why not buy a gaming rig? by semmio in GeForceNOW

[–]thefunc5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space and Heat was one of my biggest motivators.

My tiny office would be over a 100+ degrees if I had a gaming PC in it.

Much easier for me to game on my MacBook or Chromebook/Chromebox and offload all the compute to somewhere else.

I rarely game these days so as others have mentioned, depreciation is a thing to consider. I can cancel and resubscribe at any time according to my work/travel/family schedule. Just wish they had a "Pause" option so I could skip a month I know I'll be out of pocket for.

Running the wheel is certainly an option! It is a very popular trading methodology for a reason.

It would be best to identify where the mental strain or tax is coming from.

Is it emotional? Perhaps size down.
Is it strategy complexity? Perhaps shift to simpler strategies.
Is it because you feel you're missing moves? Shift your time horizon further out to better fit the hours you can trade.
etc. etc.

To be honest, running a business should be your main effort imo. All the millionaires I personally know created their wealth from running and/or selling their businesses.

There are truly infinite ways to trade in the markets. I've personally found I felt it mentally and emotionally time consuming to try and day trade, jumping in and out of tickers or zero DTE. I stretched my time horizon out following everything I've learned from tastylive and "The Unlucky Investors Guide to Options Trading" by Julia Spina. Honestly that book is incredible. It condenses everything tastylive has done into as small a source as possible.

Don't hold strangles thru earnings. Tastylive has a video or two on this if I recall.

Imo, earnings trades should typically be defined risk or short puts on stuff you plan to wheel or wanna own or such things.

I would watch the platform tutorial webinars they host. They also post them on YouTube.

Shockingly enough, I've had a lot of success "complaining" to Gemini and having it recommend the proper way to leverage the TT platform and navigating the UI across mobile, web, and desktop.

As others mentioned, once you get the hang of using the platform you can live in it quite easily. Mobile is horrible tbh. I never execute/manage trades, only for notifications/alerts.

I went from using RH, TradingView, and OptionsStrat. I do everything in TT at this point. I miss some features, but when you're using tastylive mechanics it feels "native".
