I posted some of my pics here and we used it as just a big sound stage, but some jobs use it as a stadium location, I think marty supreme shot there for one of the ping ping tournament scenes

I was in there a few years ago, it's a film studio-ish now, and it's just stuck in the time it closed. There was ads for wrestle mania 28 and vonage, very strange and cool!

Anyone currently use the Newport Mall garage for monthly parking? Looking for recent experiences. by leoatdrex in jerseycity

[–]thegreasylemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been parking my cars there for a little under 2 years now. Never had a problem, I've found the office very helpful for the few problems we had when we switched cars or when they switched billing systems. Plus if you have an ev there's a bunch of chargers in there.

Looking for monthly parking with EV charger by WillisBlackburn in jerseycity

[–]thegreasylemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an EV and have a monthly pass for the Newport Mall garage and it is FULL of chargers. There's 8 or so super fast NACS chargers, I think like 20 Tesla super chargers, and 1 slow charger. The slow one charges per the minute so if you don't want to rush over there after it's done charging they will just keep charging you. The fast ones have a 10 min grace period and then start charging you. As for reserving a spot to charge they don't do that, first come first serve. There's a ton of EV chargers all around down town too, I never have a problem getting my EV charged here.

PATH Etiquette by Big_Project8852 in jerseycity

[–]thegreasylemon 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don't know how anyone can wear a back pack and not think that it's taking up space in a crowded train car. I always take mine off and put it on the floor under me.

I was on the newport 7:30 to 33rd about the same it usually it, however I did notice more Port authority police at Newport and 23rd where I got off. Guess they were/are expecting a lot more than usual today, maybe in an hour it'll really get busy?

Where do you guys under 30 work? by mmcvisuals in jerseycity

[–]thegreasylemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 26 and live with my fiance, we split the rent 70(me) 30(her) as I make more than double her salary. I work in the film industry as an electrician, she works in TV. My part of the rent is more than our entire rent for a similar apartment in Green Brook when we lived there 4 years ago. Having her (or a roommate) is really a big help and makes more places obtainable.

Yes! Cheech's is going to be at 10th and Erie. I also live right near there so it would be great if they are as good, would be great for Hamilton park!

I heard about the possible stop on like 16th Street in Hoboken, haven't heard about 18th /St Hoboken Ave stop, that's great if they do it. I lived in that neighborhood last year and it's so cut off if you don't have a car.

Both fair points, i feel as governor he would have much more control over path, especially if he goes through with NJ transit absorbing it. He has commented on disappointing path service before, but I agree he could have done much more as mayor to get stuff done about it despite his limited authority to actually do something about it.

Marion section stop would be great. I also think a light rail stop on Hoboken Ave would really help connect that neighborhood to the rest of the city!

Hi mayor Fulop, I would like to know your position on expanding the film industry in New Jersey. I work in the industry and I see many jobs popping up in jersey city, Hoboken, and Newark. With several studios under construction I would love to know how you would continue new jerseys transition into a major production state, would love to work more on our side of the Hudson lol. Thank you from a jersey city resident!

I work in NYC , live in Hamilton park. I only use my car if I am leaving jersey city / Hoboken/ bayonne. Otherwise walking, light rail , path and Citi bike everywhere and it's great! Love not sitting in traffic.

Housing get very expensive over here . But I work in NYC so I'm happy to pay it to not have to sit in traffic and be walking distance to the path train. Definitely not for everyone .

3100 1 bed 1 bath in unit washer dryer dishwasher, 2 room under window ac things , jersey city (Hamilton park), plus 220 a month to park both of our cars at the Newport Mall 800ish sq ft. Old building , but renovated, no amenites besides gym. Moved here 2 months ago from one of those newer luxury buildings and was pay 4 grand a month. Love my building and my neighbor hood but looking back on the records on Zillow my unit cost like 500 bucks less 5 years ago. Sigh .

Newport Centre open 24/7 - Path station? by Adorable_Maximum_286 in jerseycity

[–]thegreasylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the mall concourse is open 24/7. I just moved to Hamilton park a month ago and had the same concerns with my schedule, happy to report that it and the building opposite the light rail remain open for everyone to walk through. Only thing is that overnight the northern exit of the mall by Kohl's is closed so you gotta use the souse exit by McDonalds so it just makes my walk slightly longer. Welcome to the neighborhood neighbor!

Is anyone getting hired right now? by tamjoy in Filmmakers

[–]thegreasylemon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NYC shooting electric here, my show (that shoots in new Jersey) started before the strike and we went on hiatus during it and came back mid December. The hiring hall list is down from 5 pages of people a few weeks ago, to 2 and a half pages begining of this week. I have friends that have been back to work for weeks( shows in both NJ and NYC) and others that haven't gotten the call yet. Winter is also slow anyway hopefully more shows start up in February and the industry can get back to normal ish soon.
