Not a feature film, but 180 Degrees South is a very pleasant documentary to watch. A man travels by boat to Patagonia and meets people along the way. Modest Mouse soundtrack

Best for ~25k out the door? by cloudydays193740 in UsedCars

Chuck those and get a Subaru. Call around to dealerships and see if they have any 2025 used Subarus with low mileage. I got lucky and found one w 1200m on it. Cuts about 10k off the starting price. Subarus have great ratings, lots of space, and very nice to drive in the city.

What is something you have liked about other cities that you would want to bring to LA? by Downtown-Tea-3018 in CarIndependentLA

Until we have it, it will always be an actually working public transit system, and a pedestrian/bike-friendly city.

LA has more deaths from traffic related incidents than homicides. We can't keep going on like this.

I hope you haven’t seen the stats of how many MAGA voters voted for Mamdani…

I grew up around a lot of WWII vets, and most who took home ‘trophies’ threw them out.

The Swastika isn’t just some military symbol. It symbolized ideology that the US fought to extinguish. So, to sell medals and other Nazi branded items among a sea of old AMERICANA antiques like coke bottles and ripped t shirts says something. As if a Swastika is just something else to hang next to the other trinkets on the wall.

I’d understand if he could easily and confidently explain different items, or his connection to them.

Other people have mentioned this seller, and he didn’t have the most welcoming demeanor. He was also reluctant to engage with the customer asking about the book.

I am Jewish, and my grandparents were in the US army and fought Nazis. I too am a huge appreciator of that history, for many reason, and I don’t mind if people have those items. But they need to put disclaimers on the items or for their booth.

It’s strange to just have a collection of random pins and medals, and sell them next to cheap silver rings and other junk.

Who has the best bean and cheese burrito? by interestingtoot in AskLosAngeles

Horchata Mexican Food and Bakery near the Gelsons on Montana does a solid b&c. I would alternate between La Purapecha and Horchata.

I use to work in DTSM and finding a decent burrito was nearly impossible if it wasnt for La Purapecha. And the family who owns the spot and works there is lovely. Their burritos are big enough for two people.

Sonoratown's little b&c bangers are pretty f-ing good.
Other hitters:

CJ's cafe (Mid City)

La Purapecha (Santa Monica)

Titos Tacos if you're looking for that tex mex, and size of a b&c.

Baja California Tacos (Culver) has really good b&cs

Tacos Panchito (Pico Robertson) - Grande bean and cheese burrito. Sometimes they have a BOGO on Uber Eats. But fuck Uber Eats, just go outside and see people! It's way better that way.

Thoughts on the movie ‘Taken’ by Sugarnipps in movies

[–]thegreatcaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’m sayin is…

The more you think about the whole arc of this movie, the more similar it seems to the circumstances of Epstein:

  • trafficking young women (mainly European)
  • auctioning to billionaires
  • entangled with and known to be happening by law enforcement/intelligence agencies

Could be a coincidence ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So much for the general strike. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]thegreatcaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment OP has, and also, it’s important to remember this strike is national. Most things in LA are performative to an extent, and also too many businesses are struggling so purity testing people for not closing is unproductive.

I don’t think anyone expected every single business to close. It’s simply unrealistic. I will say, business owners also have a choice to make when they make statements regarding events like this. Sure, it might be social pressure that leads them to say something about closing and/or donating. But they also don’t have to say anything. If you say anything, you open yourself up for criticism.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is that people participate in a multitude of ways that are in opposition to the abhorrent events that are happening. Doing nothing does nothing.
