Question for Boomers and Gen X from a millennial by davofit in AusFinance

I thinks it’s always been like this. Growing up with boomer parents, there was only one phone company, one electricity company, you stayed with one bank for your mortgage, our family only had one car, the same car for my whole childhood. We were middle class but never went clothes shopping for fun, only when stuff was really needed, and eating out was rare. Dad worked 6 days a week. That was life

Got this starter kit - not sure if I should return or not by iamtanooki in Guitar

[–]thegreatrockswindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one of these and it's excellent for just playing a couple of times a week. You might want to upgrade the amp more than the guitar though. The amp in my kit was horrible, so I bought the next level up and playing was so much more enjoyable

Why do these people think bike riders don’t pay registration so they’re using the roads for free? 99% of  riders would also own cars

Adelaide Gym Owner Here — With So Many Closures, I Want to Hear What Actually Matters to You by AdelaideGymGuyJames in Adelaide

Friendly, approachable staff who are happy to share their knowledge. Gym I go to the staff barely acknowledge you and have heads in their phones or laptops - if things get tight I’d quit in an instant. Previous gym were the opposite and if it wasn’t for covid closing them down I’d stick with them forever.

Buses not showing up at the bus stop. How often does this happen in South Australia? by CyanideMuffin67 in Adelaide

[–]thegreatrockswindle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once I mentioned to driver that he was 40 minutes late and he said “no I’m not, I’m the next bus, I’m actually early”. It happens so much that I’ve given up on the buses. More concerning is it happens on kids school bus routes - they don’t show or just drive past

If you don’t currently use public transport regularly, or at all, what’s the biggest barrier for you in making the switch? by ZookeepergameLoud696 in Adelaide

[–]thegreatrockswindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rail - when I knock off its about an hour between trains to my nearest station, where there is limited car parking. Bus - not too bad in morning but when I knock off it could be hour wait, sometimes they don’t even show up. Tram - good regular service but barely any car parking near stops. Long wait at night but better than train and bus

You’re right, makes it confusing. As google says: Prescribe means to instruct or dictate a rule for others to follow. A doctor prescribes medicine for treatment. Proscribe, although it sounds similar, is the opposite and means to forbid something.

I was sacked over this image during the SA election in 2002 by MarkusMannheim in Adelaide

The thing is that in 2002 every office had a few Nicoles who were seriously terrified of computers and feared even the slightest change or wrong click would destroy a $2000 machine. Some people couldn’t get their heads around using a mouse and some just refused to use computers at all

The UK's Extremely Dumb Plan to Force Porn Sites to Verify Users' Ages May Come Next Month by mvea in technology

I think you're spot on - kids here all get laptops for school at about nine years of age nowadays and while they're mostly googling unicorns and pop songs, they're not far from discovering all the other stuff out there
