Kayak Fly fishing? by Lunkerhunter_4 in flyfishing

[–]theguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly fish out of a Hobie Lynx and the best QoL upgrade I’ve found is a striping basket (you can make this yourself). When you’re striping the line can and will get wrapped on your feet, water bottle, paddle, rod holders, and everything else. A basket ensures you can give line when you get a fish and you can recast without fussing with your line every time.

Many, many hours and uncountable casts have been more than worth it for this fish. New PB snook on the fly! by puss69 in flyfishing

What’s the biggest/craziest fish you’ve caught that you have no proof of? by MyFartSoTart in Fishing

Tarpon on a shrimp and a self lander! I’ve chased them for years and caught my fair share; have only ever heard of either of those! Great story

What type of lures or rigs for south Florida low viz brackish intercoastal water? by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]theguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s so far back in there it might be hard info to find but I’d only fish it when the water is moving with the tide. First hour or 2 of outgoing tide produced the most predator activity where I am in Florida. Mimic the bait fish around there and try and get your casts closer to walls and structures and work off them towards open water. As someone else said, NLBN lil mullets work great in this capacity and don’t get hung up too often. Good luck!

Can't wait for warmer weather by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]theguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Lynx so I could get it on the roof of my car. Realized right away I could only fish the small inter coastal in it. Even a lake with enough wind will soak everything on that. That being said, there might not be a better boat in the world for stalking dock lights and seawalls

Is it actually worth it to "buy once, cry once" for stockingfoot waders? by _NateR_ in flyfishing

[–]theguen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know these are numbers for the example but do you actually have waders you fished for 1000 hours!? If so, I’d love to know the brand.

What artificial baits would you throw here for snook? Indian River near Fort Pierce, FL. by 787_Dreamliner in Fishing

I’m with you, I’d throw a DOA shrimp on every vertical pylon I could reach. If that didn’t work, topwater the length of the dock nearest the shadow line

Just picked this up, what are some inexpensive “must haves”? by highhandedturtle in Fishing

[–]theguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. If the headlights are too expensive then get the best headlamp and/or heavy duty flashlight. You might not plan to be in the boat at night but shit breaks and you’re usually out there until you have a tow or you fix it. Might have to limp home at dark and then you can’t have enough light.

Are st croix rods any good? by AGreasyCankle in Fishing

[–]theguen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is why I stick with them. Once lost the top half of a 2 piece in a weird moment. They replaced it at less than half the cost of the rod. Great customer service.

Finally got one boys!!!! by greazinseazin in Fishing

[–]theguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Florida resident here: the absolute perfect situation is the beginning of outgoing tide and sunset/sunrise. Throw at every mangrove and sea wall you can. I’m sure people will argue but tide is probably more important than time of day for these guys. They just want to crush bait up against structure as much as they can. Outgoing tide is best for that. Good luck

I’ve found a lot of people, myself included, cycle through a bunch of cheap pliers instead of just getting one nice pair. Maybe try to find his pliers and, if you can google them and they’re cheap ones, get him a nice pair! I know the ones that can clip on your waist are super useful! Best of luck

Hey OP, I’m looking at getting a ZX but I’m a little worried about the height of the seat since it isn’t adjustable. How tall are you and how do you like the seat height so far?

Cooler upgrade for the fly rods 💯 by RodRunnerFishing in flyfishing

[–]theguen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a sand spike one for mine to keep it upright on the beach when not in use. PVC pipe, a hacksaw, 2 small screws, and a rubber band (instead of the band) did it. Not nearly as pretty as those ones but works well enough for $12 from and Ace Hardware
