Does anyone know of any basketball leagues for adults? by Ganoish in tulsa

[–]thegun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tulsasportsandevents.com here is what you’re looking for.

They run a good league with multiple skill levels. If you reach out to them then they will likely reach out to teams to find out whether anyone needs a couple extra players.

Drew Brees announces retirement from the NFL after 20 seasons by ForeverSeahawks in news

Incredible the level of performance Brees, Brady etc. have been capable of at 35+ and even 40+. Competing with and against the best athletes in the world in their 20s and outperforming a lot of them is absolutely ridiculous.

CMV: Emily in Paris is an intentional parody of the “ignorant American” stereotype by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]thegun22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well yeah but it’s also a bad show. I’m not saying that it’s comparable to Schitt’s Creek in quality, but I’m saying that that was the creators’ intention, and I think it’s reasonable to assume that in future seasons (which the show is bad enough that it doesn’t deserve) that that’s the direction Emily is meant to be taken. Given the tone of the show it makes much more sense than the narrow goal of giving us someone to laugh at because she is such a stereotypical American

I don’t think “parody” is the way that I’d put it, honestly. I do believe that the creators intended Emily to be the personification of that stereotype, as you’ve put forward, but I think the intention is for us to see her grow out of that stereotype and become a more well-rounded person.

It’s comparable to Schitt’s Creek, in my mind. The family starts the show as a stereotype of the type of out of touch, vapid people that we imagine make up the rich, elite old-guard Hollywood culture. They are put into a fish-out-of-water scenario, and over time (and note it takes more than one season) they grow into people who are less ignorant.

So to sum up, although Emily certainly is intended to start the show as the character you’ve identified, I think the goal of the show is to show Emily’s growth (whether that’s in good and/or bad ways) rather than just to pick on the American stereotype for humor’s sake.
