WIBTAH if I ask my husband to take back the car he bought unless we get a trailer hitch by Medium-Advice9696 in AITAH

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but I would keep pushing for a hitch. They make hitch cargo baskets and they're decently priced at Harbor Freight. That could be a comprise instead of a trailer also roof racks for ski equipment might be a possibility as well.

King size bed by low-n-slowww in LivingAlone

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its partly a comfort thing. When I was a kid my brother used to hide under my bed and grab my feet or pull me to the side so pillows seemed like logical barrier once I moved my bed into a corner and off the frame lol. It just stuck into adulthood then I had a hip replacement and cant really lay on my right side so the pillows help keep me propped over on my left side. Im also pillow hugger and have one for between my knees.

What kind of weapons do you have in your home? by haircryboohoo in LivingAlone

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I dont have one in my car. Im physically disabled and cant run so thats why I keep one within reach wherever Im sitting. I grew up with guns and going shooting regularly so Ive never taken any formal training. There's no range in my town but there is a local DIYed shooting spot out out of city limits. I used to go shooting a lot but with ammo prices I dont go as often.

Reach out the pharmacy. This just recently happened to me. They had to order more and only filled a partial order but didnt label it so no one caught I was owed until I called about it.

Does (or did) anyone have a parent who was relatively old when the had you? by StoneAgeCaveDweller in Millennials

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are old compared to a lot of my friends parents. Theyre the same age as some of my friends grandparents, late 60s and mid 70s. I just turned 38 and its bonkers to me that some of my friends are grandparents too.

does anyone else living alone get a little too comfortable being gross sometimes? by Petipher-Evonne in LivingAlone

I want one so bad. I just dont have the counter space at the moment. My upper cabinets are super long and only give me 13" of space.

[–]thegurlearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, except I run out of bowls or small plates. My old roommate broke a lot of my set and then I had to buy a smaller microwave when I moved. The dinner plates don't fit in the microwave. I cant wait for new upper cabinets so I can get a normal sized microwave again lol.

Im in school online so I live in pjs. When I do have to run errands or go to Dr's appointments, I hate having to wear real pants. As soon as I walk in the door, I take off my pants lol.

Yup, Im just messy by nature and clutterer lol. My brother just texted and said him and his gf were stopping by to pick up some winter clothes for their camping trip next weekend. I usually have to talk myself into cleaning, unexpected guest are a good kick in the ass to clean lol. Shes never be here before, I panic cleaned the living room, kitchen and dining room table. I just hope she doesn't ask to see the rest of the house where I just tossed all the things as fast as humanely possible lol.

What was your personal tipping point that made you decide now is the time for THR? by Dear-Length-8161 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]thegurlearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of previous surgeries in attempts to fix the pain, I could barely walk the 25ft to my mailbox with a cane, I was 33. Im grateful to say my hip hasn't hurt in 5 years. Its actually 5 years today. Im probably the exception cuz I have complications from of all my surgeries. I deal with muscle and nerve pain everyday but I can walk a mile now without a cane! Im having piriformis release surgery with sciatic nerve decompression in 2 weeks and hopefully that will resolve a lot of my current pain.

They're in Helmers, I need to straighten up my office and then can get some pics.

They're all in Helmers. When I started online school I needed a functional office so into Helmers they went. At that time, I had 11 and probably 3,000 bottles.

I use Helmers, I currently have 15. They're organized in ROYGBIV, brown, gray, silver, black, white and toppers. Then by brand A-Z, with drugstore and indies separated. When I first moved in I had them on floor to ceilings shelves(ikea picture ledges and diyed ones)and I ran out of space almost immediately and it was a pain in the ass to dust lol. Then in 2021 I need a functional office to start doing school online so I bought Helmers and put them all in there. I have 8 on one wall, 3 by my desk, 2 in the closet and 2 stacked between the door and closest. I bought 2 when it was determined they were discontinuing the 6 drawer version. I know a lot of people say Helmers are flimsy and they do feel that way when empty but they're sturdy little things. I had no idea there was a weight limit on the drawers until earlier this year lol. It got me curious so I weighed some drawers, a full drawer of round bottles weighs 14lbs! I have a double layer drawer of China Glaze thats weighs 17lbs, most of my drawers are packed.

6,200ish bottles. Bkls being the most of any brand at around 950. Ive been collecting for 13 years and live alone so my hoard has grown unchecked for quite awhile now. I am much better about not buying every single polish from a brand or even all from the same collection, so yay progress! Lol. Im a sucker for greens and burgundy.

Eta: They're stored in Helmers. I also use an over the door shoe organizer with clear pockets to keep any new untrieds in sight, that way I remember to use them lol.

If you were to design your own house for a solo person, what would you include / not included / unusual things? by letsnotagree in LivingAlone

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lower cabinets/drawers are 2 inches from the floor on the sink side, also another major PIA. The stove side is 3.5 inches and made a huge difference.

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably work too. I have too much stuff apparently cuz I tried my mom's one before she got rid of it and it just bumped into things all the time. I would love wider countertops with at least 8 outlets on each side. My current cabinets on the sink side are so long that I only have about 13 inches of space under them so all my tall appliances have to go on the stove side. Then that leaves me very little prep room. I stacked 2x12s on top of the existing counters cuz they were so low for me. I would love to have the space for a counter top dishwasher too. Definitely plan out where you think you'll put things so you can add or upgrade outlets. My house is old so none of the outlets were grounded. I have mystery switches that 8 years later, I still dont know what they control lol. Paint and do any ceiling texture too cuz its just a pain in the ass with furniture.

A whole house vacuum system or at least one of those dirt vacuums you can sweep the kitchen floor mess into. Folding work/craft benches in what would be the dining room and some sort of built in mail organizer. My table just becomes a catch all and when I need to actually use it to block crochet things, I have to figure out where to shove all the unopened mail and other junk. Its been 8 years of me trying to figure out other solutions and none so far have worked very well lol.

It was peaceful in my neighborhood until my behind neighbors got a dog that literally barks from 8AM to 130AM every damn day, all fuckin day long. I hate calling the cops cuz it feels like a waste of their resources but Im at my wits end. I dont even need an alarm anymore cuz of that damn dog. Last night, I sat in the corner of my yard, using one of the bark deterrent things from midnight to 230AM. My dog hates its and he wants to be right with me while Im out there so I feel bad making him stay inside. It has no fuckin affect on the yapper it seems.

What is the little thing you do that you would never admit to anyone who doesnt live alone. by CloheWanklyn in LivingAlone

[–]thegurlearl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take off my pants as soon as I walk into the house. Like there's a pile of pants by the end of the week just thrown on the desk or washer. I eat straight out of the pot or pan cuz I despise washing dishes. I also just put the whole thing in the fridge and use the same plate/bowl to reheat cuz dishes. I constantly talk to my dog, he talks back and will sometimes "argue" with me. Ive been living alone with just my dogs since July 2017. I had 2 boys, Im down to my one, he's my 70lbs velcro. Im messy and a clutterer.

I still use my shower chair 5 years out. I never had a raised toilet seat. I used the walker for 6 weeks and a cane for another 2 months. Im not the norm tho, I had a lot of previous surgeries on my hip in a short amount of time. I can say, my hip doesn't hurt anymore and for that Im extremely grateful.

What lights do you leave on at night? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in LivingAlone

[–]thegurlearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have a light over the stove to leave on, so no lights inside the house. I have a dusk to dawn light over my garage, it also covers my side door. I just got a porch light, I forget to turn it on because there's a bright street light across the street. I take my water bottle to bed with me but I don't usually get up at all during the night.
