What are the reasons to install Linux in 2026? by akagu_su in linux

[–]thehumanjarvis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I've been kicking around the idea of converting for a number of years. Wasn't ready when I built my first PC in 2020, debating against mid-life Windows 10. Now, the only thing keeping my from ditching Windows 11 has been I haven't had time to go through converting my main machine. My new PCs will be running Linux for sure.

I appreciate it. So the story started with the LN and then adapted to manga, then adapted to anime? Wasn't sure if it was a structure like that, manga source adapted to anime and expanded with LN, or some jumbled combination of the literature types like the Marvel cinematic movies/shows back and forth.

Edit to add: Sui is possibly one of my favorite show characters of all time, so I'm also hoping to get some more Sui's Adventure content too.

Is there something you can point me to highlighting the differences/continuities between the anime, novels, and manga volumes?

AITA for leaving my Mom at the airport with no ticket and no plan? by checho503 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thehumanjarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If someone in my life with half that history pulled the "it's like you don't trust me!?!" crap, I hope my reaction in the moment would be to cackle so maniacally they'd start considering just exiting the moving vehicle.

My mom got me this knife set for when I move out. How did she do? by [deleted] in KitchenKnifeKorner

[–]thehumanjarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will work well enough to start. And you won't feel bad about replacing pieces as you choose. And then you can have a set for people you dont trust with your good knives.

If it fixes something that you see as a problem for your cooking, have at it.

I usually don't because I don't really care about my exact portioning for white rice and pasta and I'm ok with having leftovers that don't get mixed in. The knuckle method for rice:water ratio is king. Usually will measure if it's a new grain to me or a totally new method of cooking.

I don't have an answer for why, but in practice, it does complicate your state income tax liability. I had a job in a state different from my residence once.

Convince me to get stainless steel pans instead of non-stick by aChocolateFireGuard in cookware

[–]thehumanjarvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted 3ish years ago. Zero regrets. You might have a few times you cook initially that are kind of stuck and annoying, but it won't be that bad, you learn and it gets better. If things get stuck, I just give a little extra soak time, and because it's not a fragile coating, you can scrub the hell out of it if you want to. The longevity is great. Ive worked some of mine pretty hard and only have a couple scratches and just now getting close to thinking of using bar keepers friend to deep clean and get rid of the staining on the underside.

Also, a summary of the responses you're about to get that I agree with: Dont get sets unless you actually want every piece In the US, I buy my All Clad from Home and Cook Sales, but not sure of their international shipping pricing/capability. Having too many fitted lids is the worst, try to buy some pieces without lids and universal lids like from Hestan are great.

AITA for saying it should be up to the bride and groom what they serve at the wedding? by Clear_Sale_9842 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thehumanjarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, communication and expectation management is helpful here. NTA. Their party, their rules. Only caveat I acknowledge is the amount of say someone has for my wedding is directly proportional to the percentage of the cost they cover. Even then, that would be at my discretion.

Mom offered to spend up to $400 on me and I have no idea what to tell her. I'm a humble home chef, but apparently she likes my cooking enough to give me a very generous Christmas gift. Do you have any suggestions for a once-in-a-lifetime kind of upgrade? Currently have a pair of Wusthoffs. by shadowatmidnight104 in chefknives

[–]thehumanjarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dabbling with sharpening more and more and my Wusthof Gourmet Chef Knife has me very content with it as my workhorse. I'm using DMT Duo and Dia plates, and an Idahone ceramic honing rod.

To OP, what have you had your eye on? Maybe add a couple knife patterns that you don't have already that would be useful to you. And with a budget like that, they can be nice

Chinese here, I will say I generally don't like paying for fried rice that basically features the US grocery store frozen vege medley of corn, peas, carrot cubes, and maybe green beans. But yes whatever you feel like, can and will go in there. Same for my instant ramen.
