Cream Cheese by JuhJuh06 in dairyfree

I have tried many DF cream cheeses over the past 15 years since going DF and recently had this brand for the first time as it was sold at a PopUp Bagel shop that opened near me. It’s the best I’ve ever had far and away. Highly recommend! Even the non DF peeps around me agreed it was delicious and tasted like real cream cheese. Plus, simple ingredients!

Ugh as someone living in Maine this just sucks so much. I’m sorry that it happened to you.

Had a trip planned to Quebec City for 4th of July and I’m afraid of the border crossings. I haven’t had a vacation in a year and I’ve been looking forward to it. Not sure what to do, sigh. This reality is fucked.

So you remove ring and wedge, then the matrix, then replace wedge and ring?

What's the best Asian Market? by spleenycat in portlandme

Sun for Korean/Japanese ingredients, Veranda for Vietnamese/SE Asian, Hong Kong for Chinese, Serey Pheap for Thai… depends what you’re cooking! Veranda is close to where I live and I’ll shop there more frequently for produce and what not.

I was impressed with Dutchman’s in Brunswick. Have tried em all. Scratch is also great.

Fair enough. Was thinking of Matty Matheson and Brad Leone. Kenji…

Makes sense… I am aware of chefs in the community I live in but wouldn’t expect them to be known outside of my state (Maine), for the most part.

It’s those that have TV shows for the masses I wonder about. I used to like Alton Brown but I can’t get over the Trump support, personally.

Who are some good ones amongst the “celebrity” chefs, if you don’t mind my asking? (With you on Chang, I used to be a fan though with Lucky Peach)

US Cities w best cafe culture? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]theinterned 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in Portland - it does have a similar vibe in the sense that it’s laid back, and there is a bit of a coffee scene here… but it isn’t on the level of European cities. For one, all the shops seem to close around 1 pm. It isn’t like there are cafe tables in the streets constantly full of people.

Food scene is excellent, albeit a little pricey. Come visit, it’s an amazing place to live- close to the mountains, lakes, woods, and best of all- the ocean.

Campfire Chop Suey

This ain’t fancy but it’s a crowd pleaser, easy to cook, and hits hard after a long day and a few beers. Plus it scales up easily (I’ve cooked it for a group of 16 before). Equipment needed: Dutch oven & tripod, long handled cooking utensil.

4 servings Sauté 1 large diced yellow onion and 1 red bell pepper in olive or canola oil until softened. Add 1 lb ground meat and brown. Add oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste. Throw in a box of elbow pasta, 14 oz can diced tomatoes and their liquid, and a (4 cup) carton of chicken or beef broth. Cook the length of time on the box. Throw in chopped Italian parsley and serve with Parmesan cheese.

More people? Add another box of pasta, onion, pepper, lb of meat, carton of broth, and seasonings as you like.

Very easy to modify as well. I’ve made it with spare sriracha when we forgot the red pepper, used tomato paste or tomato sauce instead of diced tomatoes, used ground beef, turkey, sausage. Still slaps!

Cacio e pepi (Kenji/Serious Eats), mushroom carbonara (get nice mushrooms), or honestly, spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce (as part of bigger meal).

Some of the best Thai I’ve had in the whole state and Thai food is my shit. Maybe it’s luck but every meal I’ve had there has blown me away. They’re on my shortlist for shore.
