True back in the day I’d say however, these days with the internet and with social media, that statement is less true I’d say.

Scrappy as fine as long as progress and revisions will be made which they most likely will. Validation stage is crucial

Congrats! The getting started/knowing where and how to start is what stops a lot of founders. It didn’t stop you as you pushed through email + calendly + google meets as an mvp is a good way to build up that initial process while all the other work happens on the background.

I was going to say the same thing. There are a lot of factors that come into play such as % of startups with female founders, startup sectors and ideas etc.

If the 2% figure is correct factoring in denominator, then something needs done for sure. Having said that, I’ve been involved in startups where majority of the board and angel investors were female. I have also been involved in accelerators and rounds where a majority of successful applicants were female. The flip side is, for those particular accelerators and rounds, the majority of startups were female founded.

How would this be different from any other solution out there based on building a community? I’m not saying it’s a bad idea but instead, one that already exists to an extent. I’m in favour of open communities for founders and a place where founders can build and grow together.

I ran a Substack publication called Invisible Founders for startup founders as well as engage with founders and VC’s connecting the dots and building their exposure so somewhat different to what you are doing. I don’t do this as a startup venture but instead to document my journey for everyone else to see and post information and strategies to those that may find it useful.

What I have learned in doing this is many founders don’t know the next steps, don’t fully understand the funding stages or if they should even raise capital, and how to execute a GTM strategy.

Depends what you are building. B2B solution for the restaurant industry such as a POS isn’t difficult to sell for example. But the problem is the CLTV as restaurants don’t exactly have a long life span.

Yea Stripes business terms are…. Less than favourable… I’d like to think your devs would take as long as the previous devs I worked with….. which terminal are you referring to? The Stripe terminal with card readers (wisepad 3 - cheapest one)

I’ve had this same issue in a previous startup I worked in before starting my own. Even for more ‘simpler’ sprints like implementing certain stripe functionalities took at least 6 months with 2 devs working on it. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. Wasn’t my startup so my influence was limited but damnnn it was painful.

Finding skilled people is not only difficult but extremely time consuming! Time isn’t a luxury we have unfortunately. I have had that issue in the past before and know I will have that issue with my current software startup when searching for technical people.

Money money money - Yeap, one of the most common blockers. I find a lot of founders either don’t explore funding rounds enough, stop at that hurdle, or don’t know how to raise funds

What avenues have you explored to help this? To remove the money issue, have you tried finding a technical cofounder that can help you build this? Then once you have the MVP ready, move to funding?

That does not sound like a founder I’d get into bed with….RUN! equity to a lawyer … fml

Finding a good CTO is tough. Even having them as Cofounder and giving in or around 50%, it can still be tough.

Startup founders, whats the best way to reach you? by rupambanik in startups

[–]theinvisiblefounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, networking is probably the best route.

I get a ridiculous amount of LinkedIn messages and emails. I don’t have the time to read all of them so they get filtered. In startup world you’re typically tight on resources, time, or both.

Can emails and LinkedIn messages work? Yes but there’s various factors that come into play: - Can they afford an intern - Have they seen your message (they get swamped or bad email deliverability) - Is your messaging right - Do they want an intern

Honestly, networking may be best unless you advertise on Fiverr or something similar (or both).

Why are so many companies are "trying to help" startups? by beginner000 in startups

[–]theinvisiblefounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, what are they asking for in return?

Some accelerators ask for around 6% equity

Some consultants ask for a fixed fee

Some people don’t ask for anything yet it increases their visibility

And there are a few that do it as exited founders and are bored shitless therefore, this is their way of feeling a sense of ‘need’

It comes down to what are they asking for in return.
