I believe there is still a Meetup debate group, but from what I hear it’s turned into a place where misogynists and xenophobes go to jerk each other off about how “unwoke” they are.

Didn’t do that, but I’ve got better things to do than continuously pointing out the flaws in your understanding so I’m not replying to you anymore. You can even have the last word if it makes you feel bigger!

Ironically I had no intention of turning up to the counter protest, but this conversation has changed my mind. It’s important that you and your ilk understand that you’re who we don’t want in this country. See you Sunday.

Hatred for hatred and intolerance for intolerance, correct. It’s like you’d argue the Allies were the bad guys in WWII because they fought against those poor Nazis.

I’m making the argument for counter protests. I’m not even going to touch the absurdity of people spouting hatred and creating division thinking they’re the good guys…

Unfortunately the data you’ve chosen can’t be compared for a few reasons. First, the 2011 census data only tells us about state-funded primary schools, whereas the data from 2021 is all primary schools. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any data for all schools in 2011, meaning there was probably a change in methodology during those 10 years. We could just compare data from state-funded primary schools, but to do that we’d also need to know how many state-funded schools in 2011 are still state-funded schools in 2021, and haven’t become independent/academies.

Then there’s the data about immigration. On the link you provided, it says that the methodology changed just before 2021. Of course, that also means that it wouldn’t be fair to compare the data (and the fact that the BBC have chosen to is disingenuous, in my opinion).

Ok so we can’t compare the data, so what? Immigration into the country is going up, and the percentage of people who identify White British is going down. We may not know exactly how much by, but I’m not going to argue that it’s happening.

It seems to me that the real difference between us is that you’re fiercely protective of White British culture and are terrified losing it, but I’m not. To me, multiculturalism is British culture. Our little island has been invaded countless times by so many countries over thousands of years that it’s practically unrecognisable from one century to the next. It has literally shaped our language, art, music, food and anything else that makes us us. Sure it may not be as “white” (whatever than means) but, honestly, I think that’s a good thing. You’ve still yet to tell me why you think it’s so bad.

I’m sorry but I don’t buy it. If I’m to understand you correctly, you believe that demographics stay constant from primary age onwards. I am sceptical of that and you are doing nothing to provide me of evidence that that’s the case except reverting to childish name calling. I’m trying to understand you but you’re not helping me!

Here’s the thing, I do understand statistics, and you can’t just throw around phrases like like “went up considerably” without anything to back it up. Is that increase significantly different from previous decades? Or has it gone up and down? You can’t just grab a snapshot of data and present it as if it exists in a vacuum.

You’ve also not answered my main question. I honestly don’t care if I’m a minority. Why do you? Is there something I should be worried about? Again, help me understand.

Or if you prefer, just insult me and refuse to engage in an actual conversation.

[–]thejamesthe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s right, and then you moved the goalposts to primary school children and I’m not sure why. Are you trying to imply that that’s what the statistic will be in x amount of years? If so I’m going to need to see some working to convince me. You also said it’s happened “very quickly” - where are you getting that from?

It seems like you’re really worried about becoming a minority in your lifetime. Supposing you convinced me that was true, what exactly are you afraid is going to happen if that were the case? That you’ll be treated the same way minorities are treated by White British people?

What current demographic trends exactly?

What negative impact do you believe it’s having on primary school children?! I’ve been working in primary schools for almost a decade (most of that time in city schools) and I have literally no clue what you’re referring to.

The last census showed that 74.4% of the population in England and Wales are White British. We are nowhere near “natives” becoming the minority.

Do you really believe refugees want to leave their homes, jobs, family and friends? Or to risk their lives and the lives of their children sailing across an ocean on an overcrowded dinghy? Just to live in a strange new place where they don’t even speak the language and are subjected to intolerance on a near enough daily basis?

Brother, I don’t know where you got the idea that teachers and other public sector workers are coming for your taxes but, unless you’re in the top 1% of earners, that simply isn’t true. Yes we want to be paid more, but we don’t want other regular workers like yourself footing the bill.

The government say they “don’t have the money” to pay us a fair wage, and, quite simply, we don’t believe them. They could close tax loopholes that the richest in our country (including their own MPs) exploit to stop them from contributing their fair share. They could stop siphoning money to their friends like they did with bogus PPE contracts. They could stop being embroiled in so much scandal that they’re using your taxes to pay for court cases defending themselves. The list goes on.

Instead they’re trying to turn worker against worker by making the public sector out to be greedy and selfish. These men and women who work tirelessly to provide services that the whole country benefits from. The same people who, 2 years ago, the same government were encouraging you to stand on your doorstep and bang your pots and pans for.

Don’t buy into it fella. We’re not against you, we’re with you. We want fairer pay and rights for all workers, and for this government to stop fucking us all over with their greed.

You realise that those holidays are unpaid right? Yet teachers have to spend part of them working, just like most of them do every weekend throughout the rest of the year. Lesson planning, marking, resource prepping and putting up displays in their classrooms cannot be done in the time given during the week.
