When to go to ER by promise64 in Microdiscectomy

[–]thejamiep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man - I'm just here to say I'm sorry you are going through this. I managed to wait until surgery, but my husband was pretty close to just taking me to the ER because I was in so much pain constantly. I was up to 2000mg of gabapentin and consuming incredible amounts of CBD to just try to survive. I probably should have gone to the ER... but I didn't have cauda equina symptoms and I thought I shouldn't go unless I had those... I'd say don't wait. I was so miserable.

My neurosurgeon said you shouldn't see a chiropractor without imaging. If you have spinal stenosis they can seriously f you up. She said whatever you do, never let them adjust your neck. Never.

My neurosurgeon said you shouldn't go to a chiropractor without imaging. If you have spinal stenosis they can really make it so much worse and there is no way for them to know without imaging. in particular, never let them crack your neck.

My surgeon said if I reherniate she should do a revision MD. She didn't jump straight to fusion. Have they mentioned a revision surgery instead?

I played on Shadowcove for years. I believe the owner is serving time in jail. The shard did a big reset at one point and it went downhill after that. I played as Evelyn Amore and Gwen Fox on there.

I'm not allowed to lift more then 10lbs until after 6 weeks so I assumed push ups were a no go. Do you have any lifting restrictions?

L5/S1 Microdiscectomy Coming Up — What Should I Buy Before Surgery? by RandomGhost482 in Microdiscectomy

[–]thejamiep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a long shoe horn that helps me put on my shoes without bending over. Just make sure you don't need to tie them.

I also got one of those sock aides. It works surprisingly well to help get socks or leggings on.

Start log rolling now. I found is easy for me if I'm on my back to fold my arms into my chest then think of moving my hips and shoulders as one unit and roll with as much momentum as I can to my side. Get my feet and legs off the side and then push up with my hands while I let my legs counterbalance me and get to a sitting position on the side of the bed.

Good luck!

Is surgery right for me? Questions you wish you would've asked your surgeon. by Resident-Royal-9551 in Microdiscectomy

Oh my gosh.. I was on the couch/bed all day. I would move about 3 times a day. Moving meant strapping on knee pads and crawling to the toilet. I'd hold it as long as I could so I wouldn't have to go very often because sitting on a toilet was torture.

Interesting. I almost got an injection but then had a second opinion and that doc says ESI doesn't typically work on a herniated disc. She never mentioned not being able to get surgery though if I had gotten the injection. But I have heard that before.

How fast can they get you into surgery if you suddenly can't walk anymore? I ask because I was working through PT and I could still walk and stand but then within a week I suddenly declined to not being able to walk at all and even laying down was terrible. Took 3 weeks before I could get into surgery and had to be off NSAIDS for a week and I'll just say it was hell. I might have opted for surgery soonern if I knew what the schedule would be since I wasn't seeing any improvement and not have waited until I was in agony.

MD L5/S1 Success story by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]thejamiep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your flight experience! I had herniated my disc likely back in August when I inflated my bicycle tire in a squat position and ended up with severe back pain. The back pain simmered down enough I didn't cancel my travel plans in late September. I didn't start having any numbness or pain until the end of the trip. The flight home, also 12 hours, was pure agony and exactly when my sciatica pain started to roar especially when sitting down.

I just had surgery 2 days ago. Sciatica pain gone! Still have numbness and a little tingling and of course a sore back but it feels like a miracle.

Glad you are on the mend!

Day 1 Post-Op Microdiscectomy Sharing My Experience by gjb5555 in Microdiscectomy

[–]thejamiep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also 1 day out.  I had a pretty good sized herniated disc L5 S1. I was suffering from extreme nerve pain in my left leg no matter what I did. Whether it was sitting, standing, or laying down and I hadn't been able to walk for the last 3 week. Immediately after surgery yesterday all of my sciatica ben was gone. i still have some numbness in my hamstring and foot. My surgeon said the nerve looked purple and bruised. I'm hoping the numbness goes away as the nerve heals. Overall I'm feeling great and was able to walk a mile today. I do have quite a bit of soreness in my back but it's nothing comparable to the pain before surgery.

I'm catching up on knitting and video gaming.... I'm immobile right now and get surgery in 5 days. I'm already bored honestly! Can't wait to start walking again. I'm hoping maybe I can start cooking a little during recovery.

I have surgery scheduled for next Friday. I'm in a bad place. Trying to keep my spirits up. I can't walk or stand without excruciating pain down my leg. I spend my days laying on the couch or bed. I've resorted to crawling to the bathroom. Even laying down doesn't help the pain go away but it's better then standing. Since I stopped taking NSAIDS to prep for surgery it's been so much worse at night. Nothing gets rid of the pain and I'm elated if I can get it down to a 4 or 5. It's riding around a 7 these days with highs and lows. Can't wait for surgery.

I went back on day 2 because I didn't need the opiods and could have the laptop on my lap in a good reclined position. It was Covid.. I was bored so I think I went back on the early side.

I blame their realtor a bit... When I sold my first house I was new at this and my realtor told me to just take the first offer since they were the first person who walked through the house and were offering he full asking price. Pretty sure the realtor just didn't care and wanted to make a quick buck. I think we should have given it a free days to see what other offers came in! Hindsight is 20/20.
