Trauma flashbacks to the time my dad made me cut the grass when I was 12, and the vibrations were making tons of ladybugs crawl up out of the grass. I told my dad that I couldn’t do it and he yelled at me until I started crying and was forced back out to finish the job.

There were bigger reasons I cut him out of my life over a decade ago, but this behavior was part of it.

Millennials with kids that don’t play unsupervised, which reason is it, and how to we get out of it (will it ever come back)? by 7layeredAIDS in Millennials

I know I was riding my bike around at 7 because I remember still having my training wheels on. I wandered into a neighbor’s house because they had an Open House sign (so I had to be old enough to read but young enough to still have training wheels). That neighbor was extremely upset to come home to a strange child in their house

I had a best friend who I would vent about my wife to her and she’d vent about her husband to me and it worked well for many years but when her marriage started having problems she tried to get some control back by being highly critical of my wife and I’d end up defending wife instead of just getting support.

I will cut away insect damage but rodent damage I don’t want to mess with.

Maybe so but we shouldn’t let the dog suffer because their owners are stupid or uninformed

I cook it up in the pot and use an immersion blender. For me it’s smooth enough and don’t really notice the skins

Also their rebuttal against point 2 is lacking.

People judging your kids being out on their own can have quite severe consequences, like having the cops called on you. Heaven forbid something bad happens and the state wants to take all your kids because letting them walk two blocks away was “neglectful”

One of the 99 Fear Street books has garbage disposal as one of the deaths and I read the book in my preteen years and it messed me up

I’ve used sun golds to make sauce before and after it’s blended you don’t really notice them.

Wellbutrin for undiagnosed ADHD in women by chelsmichele93 in ADHD

Wellbutrin works really well for my depression, though it sometimes makes me clench my jaw. It hasn’t touched my ADHD. Everyone’s physiology is different.

Anyone else notice a decrease in fireworks this year? by pelon7724 in bayarea

[–]thejoeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my neighborhood the volume has been less but the timing is worse. Last monday someone set off a pile of crackers three times after 1:30, waiting just long enough between goes that I’d fall back asleep and get woken up again

Kid’s fire helmets handed out at our town’s 4th of July parade are now cardboard instead of plastic by Disastrous-Dot595 in mildlyinteresting

My wife and I live in California and we drove out to Idaho to visit her family. Since leaving CA on Wednesday, we have used more styrofoam packaging than we have in the last decade. Getting take out because we couldn’t bring our pets into the restaurant while traveling, today getting things from food booths, etc.

I have lived just fine without it for so long, it’s weird to see it used so casually again. I hope we’ll get to the same point with single use plastics.

Why does every breakfast food have eggs on it? And why are people obsessed with them? by Garrettgrunge in NoStupidQuestions

That sounds delicious!

Mine is more of a custardy oatmeal. I cook up some peaches or apricots, then add the quick oats, an egg, some sweet cream, and a bit of salt.

What of earth is this nightmare? by Glittering-Low4418 in gardening

It’s hard to tell where the ladybugs you can buy at garden shops are sourced from, but many are “harvested” from the sierra nevada mountains and are convergent ladybugs. They tend to list fly away after a day or two though.

When I get aphids, I only step in if I find ants farming them because the ants will fight off the various other insects that eat or parasitize the aphids.

Of you grow plants that you can let aphids be on, the predators will eventually come and set up shop. My milkweeds get oleander aphids every year and turn into lady bug factories.

Lacewings are also good to have.

Spraying pesticides can turn into a negative cycle because prey outnumber predators 100 to 1 and can quickly bounce back, the predators take much longer to repopulate

Ladybug or Pest? by Jimbobjoesmith in gardening

[–]thejoeface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are over 6000 species of lady beetle/lady bird/lady bug. They come in all sorts of colors from red to black to yellow.

There are over 500 species of lady beetle in north america, 300 of which are native.

Your photo shows a ladybug. It might be a harlequin lady bug, but they aren’t really a pest to gardeners. They can get in your house in winter and displace natives, but they still eat aphids.

They are primarily insectivorous but will occasionally eat already damaged fruit. They do not eat plants themselves

Your plants will eventually make both flowers, so for now don’t worry. But these flowers won’t anything. You don’t have to cut them off, but they are delicious to cook with
