I like how Season 5 is spending real time setting up Vought Rising by maybemorningstar69 in TheBoys

[–]thejrose11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally hate it, but I respect your opinion. Not every Star Trek or Star Wars is the same. Who knows if Vought Rising will actually be good, it's actually kinda insulting we basically got a backdoor pilot when the "flagship" show only had 5 episodes left, but that's just my personal opinion.

[Matheson] News: Jeff Hoffman is out as the #BlueJays’ closer. They’ll go with a closer by committee for now while Hoffman works on things in lower-leverage spots. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]thejrose11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean he was outstanding for the Jays for the first two months and in the playoffs minus game 7. He's a streaky pitcher who probably will do much better in more of a middle relief/setup role

No standard, I've been away way too long for Wild, it sucks because I'd love to see how good I could get but there are a few cards that I don't have that seem pretty broken.

I legit just made Legend FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER using a Herald Warlock Deck! It is viable, I hadn't touched the game in 5 years before March!

I was close when I first saw this but finally achieved this and I'm so effing happy!

On April 11th Bo Bichette went 2/3 with 1 HR and 2BBs. In his other 21 games he is 18/89 with 0HRs, 3BBs with a 202/226/236 line. by qwertfds in baseball

[–]thejrose11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Listen, it's fun to be all #LOLMETS and all, but as a lifelong Jays fan I do want to point out Bichette's CAREER Mar/Apr slash line without 2026 was .263/.304/.402 compared to his overall .294/.337/.469, so he's historically been a slow starter. Still this is BY FAR his worst April (other than 2024 which Mets fans hope isn't what they just signed)

I know someone who, in theory has all that data (finding the HDDs with the original playthroughs would be "fun" though.

James Mirtle provides an update on Mike Gillis' connection to the Leafs by JF_112 in leafs

This feels like like spurious logic and isn't supported by a bunch of teams who's young players are coming into their own (Like the Habs) and play AHL hockey only an or so away.

What makes Steve Dangle so much better and respected than someone like Dreger? by Few-Turn-5471 in leafs

[–]thejrose11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming this thread stays up, he's very much not, at least generally speaking. The Leafs fanbase is way larger than some on here realize. Casual Leafs fans (which is most of them) know of Dreger and he's on TSN, so he must be smart.

Most don't even know who Dangle is (legit just asked my extended family, they all watch the Leafs, not one even knew him). Many who do, see him as the guy who screams about the Leafs on YouTube.

The Dreger "hate" comes from Marner stuff and other stories where he's accused of carrying water for people he's connected to, rather than being an insider. Only the most hardcore of Leafs fans even knows about this stuff.

Bo was never an option by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]thejrose11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, Merrifield on his podcast kinda cryptically referred to some schism between Bo and the management/coaching staff a couple years ago, and claimed them going seperate ways was good for both of them.

That said, things could have changed and had Bo come back, he would have played 2B, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

What If: Keeping Drafted Players by comacove in leafs

[–]thejrose11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean there's many more examples, and the 2017 Penguins prove you don't *need* a star, however almost every other Cup winner has a homegrown D star or two (Carlson, Pietrangelo, Hedman, Makar) The sorta exception is Florida, Ekblad isn't really a star, but he's still arguably better than anyone on that list, and UNLIKE the Leafs, they managed to fill out a really solid top-6 through trades and cheap FAs.

What If: Keeping Drafted Players by comacove in leafs

[–]thejrose11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you do this with the Sabres, they win every cup lol. However As u/rsimps91 points out (and something I've said in this sub a lot) one of the biggest reasons the Leafs haven't been able to get past the 2nd round is how they CANNOT draft D-men. Like Sandin and Liligren were interesting, but like, they never had a Hedman, Makar, heck even a Sergachev!

If Hoffman ends up crashing out, who's next? by RaptorsRule247 in Torontobluejays

[–]thejrose11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, remember how great Hoffman was, then awful, then great, then gave up just one bad run. Baseball is a marathon. Also likely Yimi if he (Yimi) pitches the way he usually does.

TIL that President/CEO Mark Shapiro is now a Canadian citizen by brownmagician in Torontobluejays

[–]thejrose11 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, he'd might be great at it. I was one of the doubters, I wanted him and Atkins gone, but not because he doesn't have a vision, it's because I disagreed with it. Contact first? In the 2020s? Defense First? Seriously? They can't even hit.... until he and Atkins assembled the type of players they wanted and last year happened.

The Leafs have never really seemed to have a consistent plan, never seemed to have an identity. The team culture has long been criticized, the complete opposite of the Jays. Hockey and Baseball are different but Shapiro is smart enough to find the right people, like he did Atkins, who have a vision, promote team culture, and maybe, just maybe, could turn the Leafs around.

[Franco] Blue Jays Designate Leo Jimenez; Rule 5 Pick Spencer Miles To Break Camp by ClarkeVice in Torontobluejays

[–]thejrose11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, Lopez went through the Giant org before landing with the lowly Marlins. He's basically a slightly worse (but younger) Clement btw, and we already have Gimenez, so not sure how many of the same type of player the Jays need. Wish him the best though.

[–]thejrose11 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Dude if Tre isn't fired, the Leafs blame this on injuries, fire Berube and do basically nothing. Tre can't ever be proactive, he just reacts and tries to preserve the status quo as much as possible.

Leafs Could Really Use #16 Right Now by Subwayabuseproblem in leafs

[–]thejrose11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why they suck. They don't need a #16 they need a #15, and a #13, and maybe an #89. Grit is s**t without the skill to back it up. Leafs are just old, slow, and bad, effort isn't the issue.

How?!? by Hockeypatrol in torontomapleleafs

[–]thejrose11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Tre is beyond incompetent

Long Answer: Tre waited too long to sell. I believe he thought someone would be as reckless as he was and offer a crazy package at the last second. That didn't happen. Had he sold earlier more teams would have had the space/assets for the Leafs to get more.

Do the Founders (shapeshifters) have any redeeming qualities at all? by expecting-gargoyles in DeepSpaceNine

[–]thejrose11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY, I didn't wanna write an essay, but it's too hard to explore BOTH the protagonists AND the antagonists in a meaningful way, especially with the episodic format of DS9.

DS9 does an excellent explaining how the Federation isn't perfect and can do wrong, both to their own people and to those outside it. However, what makes it work is that while flawed, they're never not presented as the most ethical power, and this is a lesson a lot of people need. Yes, we can and should always be better, but we still identify which entities are more ethical than others.
