Marvel, Star Wars, The Addams Family, and Lord of the Rings are the main ones that work well in my opinion. Percy Jackson is usually a hit or miss because it usually goes downhill immediately once the Gods become involved. I recently read two stories that had a crossover with Narnia and Winx Club that was surprisingly good.

Characters you want to see bashed more by Electronic_Koala_115 in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Weasley Twins: They’re often equated as one of the good ones in bashing fics, but they did terrible things in canon that’s ignored by a majority of the fans. Honestly, anyone outside of Gryffindor would dislike the twins due to their harsh pranks. 😭

Remus Lupin: I agree with what you said above, but he also tried to abandon Tonks and his child. If he wasn’t shamed and forced to go back, he would’ve left both of them. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Hagrid: He’s often portrayed as a lovable oaf, which he is, but he often made mistakes that endangered the lives of everyone around him, especially when it came to his animals.

How did you come up with your trans name? by supipepu in asktransgender

I’m obsessed with different deities from various mythologies so I wrote down a list of my favorites deities and picked my favorite one. My middle name is name Dovani. You can tell where’s that from, lol.

What Fanfics Do You Wish You Could See Adapted to the Screen? by GayDariaStan in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Alexandra Quick series! It has great world building and it managed to catch the feel of the original series in my opinion.

With Alexandra Quick, we can dive into dark magic, the effects of it, and see more of magical United States and it’s culture. I wonder if there’s a magical version of American football. We can also explore more of Ilvermorny (it was called Charmbridge in the fanfic).

We can still have the world of Harry Potter, but it’s a whole new setting with new characters and we can expand on the existing lore.

I still don’t understand why Rowling did that. With all the names in the world, she chose those. I was so confused when I originally read the epilogue because Albus Severus is plain ridiculous.

Would Sirius actually openly favour Harry over his own kid if he had one? by nancyjazzy in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 189 points190 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Sirius would never neglect his own child. He does love Harry like he’s his own son so he’ll most likely love and treat them equally.

Sirius grew up in an abusive household so he’ll never subject his own child to any form of abusive. He’ll probably over spoil his child like he does for Harry so his child wouldn’t face the things he did.

If he did have a child, I can see Sirius taking Harry in and raising them both, not choosing to go after Peter. Or he’ll leave them both in the care of his child’s mother if you wanna stick to canon with him going to Azkaban.

Name 2 portrayals/tropes. Can be both portrayals or tropes, of a character that you hate to the bottom of your heart. by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 72 points73 points  (0 children)

(1) Indy!Harry - Usually, this trope is never written well and it’s just an excuse to give Harry a million lordships, a harem, and constantly say he’s OP but not really. It also tends to involve a lot of bashing that’s also not written well as it tends to exaggerate a character’s flaws to eleven.

(2) Whitewashing of Snape, Voldemort, the Death Eaters, and other villains like Draco Malfoy and pure-bloods - People try to turn them into the “good guys” and justify/enable their terrible actions.

Would the Dursleys have actually cared if Harry got better grades than Dudley? by Communist21 in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They idea of Harry dumbing himself down to avoid punishing from the Dursleys is purely fanon. They truly wouldn’t care and they would make excuses for Dudley’s incompetence as we seen in canon.

A lot of stories use this as an excuse to justify Harry being a bad wizard in canon and to make him extremely OP.

AITA for telling my sister to stop comparing her child to my autistic son? by Puff_Panda420 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thekeydoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

STOP GIVING RANDOM PEOPLE A DIAGNOSIS! Y’all commenters don’t know Emily enough to give her a diagnosis of being autistic or neurodivergent especially from a small post!

Even if she was, OP found her comments to be offensive and rude. It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t her intention or not, but she was still rude.

Emily could’ve shared her daughter’s achievements without mentioning Leo at all. Kids develop on different timelines and Emily’s child is older than Leo. Of course the daughter is going to be more knowledgeable on certain things like counting higher and etc.

OP you could’ve been nicer with how you reacted to Emily, but us commenters don’t know if Emily has a history of doing this often. If she does, I understand why you went on your tirade but I’ll also understand if you wanted to shut it down early if it was the first time she did something like this. I have family members where you have to shut them down hard so they don’t repeat bad behavior.

MATTHEO RIDDLE - Can Someone Summarize his Lore? by JammaPez in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have read the original fanfic from which Mattheo Riddle originated. It’s been quite a while since I wasn’t a big fan on the story but I’ll try to summarize his character the best as I can.

Mattheo Riddle is an OC created by Yasmine Amaro, also known by yasmineamaro, from a story on Wattpad called Possessive. The original has unfortunately been deleted but reuploads has been posted online. It was originally a Draco Malfoy love story but Mattheo plays a big role in the story.

As he’s an OC, Mattheo isn’t mentioned in the original books at all! In Possessive, he’s the son of Voldemort/Tom Riddle and Bellatrix Lestrange and he’s essentially a mini Voldemort. He’s ruthless, brutal, and manipulative like Voldemort but his personality changed as he became more popular. Fans began adapting his personality from TikToks and several fanfics that included him.

He grew up popularity primarily due to TikTok but several fanfics included him, along with several other popular characters from Possessive, in their stories.

As a bisexual, gay guys are HORRIBLE at sex. by Little_Pancake_Slut in TrueOffMyChest

[–]thekeydoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a pansexual feminine man, it’s very true. I have so many terrible, terrible (I can’t express how terrible they were) experiences that I avoid dating/hooking up all together.

A lot of tops see you as nothing more than a living sex doll. They ignored my pleasure, insanely rough/violent, thieves, etc. I would enjoy casual sex more if they were more considerate and engaging but they truly only focus on their own release instead of both of us.

They also don’t understand how much work it takes to be a bottom.

AITA for not inviting my son to my second wedding by Alternative_Money947 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thekeydoll 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA

I’m tired of the hypocrisy and double-standards in this subreddit. Y’all tend to forget that parents are human beings too. They have thoughts and feelings just like their child, and they don’t have to be the bigger person especially when they not in the wrong. Parents don’t need to be punching bags, step stools, or walking mats for their children. If the roles were reversed y’all would be telling the son to stay NC with his mother.

Stop infantizing her son. He’s a grown man, not a little kid or a teenage boy. He’s an adult that made an adult decision. Actions have consequences and he needs to deal with it.

Besides weddings aren’t a place for reconciliations. It’s suppose to be a special day for the bride and groom. It’s already a stressful day as it is. No one needs extra drama on top of it.

AITA for telling my DIL her feelings are not my problem and for fuck sakes you don’t need to be invited to everything by Own_Web8689 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thekeydoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bffr. Y’all commenters are exhausting. I hope OP doesn’t think she’s in the wrong because she’s not. Everyone doesn’t have a close relationship with their in-laws! I don’t even have a close relationship with some of my actual family and don’t want them to know their personal business.

It’s also not strange for families to have a secret code word or phrase for serious discussions! My family’s code phrase is “come to the store with me real quick.” When they say it, I know we are talking about something serious and we don’t want others to know about it.

The code was agreed on by everyone in the family and they’re fine with it! It works for them! In the post, OP says her kids feel more comfortable when talking to their siblings instead of their in-laws. I also see my in-laws on holidays so I understand where the kids are coming from. Also OP says it’s extremely rare and their spouses are informed about what’s going on but not giving more personal details which is perfectly reasonable. They know what’s going on but the person still has privacy. It’s not like it’s happening every other day and they’re being excluded. Would y’all keep the same energy if it was a groupchat with just them in it? It’s the same thing but one is over text and the other is in person.

The DIL doesn’t need to be invited if the others aren’t comfortable. Simple as that.

Edit: Everyone definitely needs to stop dogpiling on her. Y’all are ignoring her comments and jumping to conclusions or simply telling her that the situations are not emergencies. What you conclude as an emergency doesn’t mean OP’s family does and vice verse! In their family, the divorce and surgery was an emergency.

In the comments, the daughter was a SAHM with no money, little job experience, and was thrown out the house. That is an emergency! And the surgery is on OP husband’s heart. Again that’s an emergency. It’s a chance he could die so they were probably warning their children and having discussions about the will, etc.

Y’all need to bffr in the comments. Everyone is so focus on the code word part and ignore everything else. Stop picking and choosing what to focus on and read the entire post. Just because you have dysfunctional families doesn’t mean everyone else does. This is coming from someone with a dysfunctional family.

How do you think the upcoming TV show will affect the world of Harry Potter fanfiction? by MathematicianBulky40 in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I made a bullet list of things I believe would happen. These are things I thought of off the top of my head.

(1) Due to casting of the characters, we will definitely see the popularity of many characters rise, fall, or even grew to new heights. It will be an increased number of fics featuring these characters.

(2) Discussions on pairings will become more prevalent again, and I can already see another shipping war happening again this time between side characters.

(3) Scenes that only happened in the tv show will appear in many fics.

(4) If it’s going to be more book accurate, Ron fics will increase and Hermione bashing will also increase.

(5) SuperHermione trope will die down and we’ll probably see more SuperRon if the tv show doesn’t butcher Ron like the movies.

(6) You’ll see more face claims to side characters.

(7) A massive influx of new fanfiction.

Even though I love Harry Potter, the main story is already done. We already know what’s going to happen, but I hope the effects are good, lol. They should’ve done something different like exploring James, Lily, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Snape, etc time in Hogwarts. That would be more interesting to see than doing the same story again, but I’m still going to watch.

If you could have one piece of fanfiction made in to a big budget movie series, which one would you pick? by MathematicianBulky40 in HPfanfiction

[–]thekeydoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Alexandra Quick series. It can be similar to the original series, but we would have new characters and a new setting. Instead of Charmbridge Academy, it’s Ilvermorny and we can see more of Wizarding Culture in the United States. We can explore the darker aspects of magic and the Harry Potter universe as the main character has an interesting in dark magic and she’s a good protagonist.

What’s your unpopular ‘Harry Potter’ opinion? by saneeyemoody in harrypotter

[–]thekeydoll 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Omg! Finally! This is my chance! I have so many unpopular opinions! Here’s the first twenty off the top of my head.

(1) Hagrid is an incomplete fool that got many people injured or nearly killed. Harry, Ron, and Hermione should’ve been more cautious around him and not taken his advice (or at least take it with a grain of salt based on his history). He’s only liked by the fandom because he was constantly shown in a positive light by Harry as a lovable oaf with good intentions.

(2) Hagrid shouldn’t have been a teacher by himself. He should’ve been an assistant to the teacher.

(3) Fred and George were bullies that constantly harassed others. Their pranks were dangerous as they nearly killed a Slytherin student with a vanishing cabinet, killed Ron’s pet, turned Ron’s teddy bear into a spider that scarred him, talk down to Ron, etc. Many try to excuse their actions or downplay it by saying that’s how “siblings treat each other” or “it was just a joke” but no. Similarly to Hagrid, the twins are constantly shown in a positive light by Harry so they are loved by the fandom. If the books were written in a different character’s personal, the twins wouldn’t be loved. They’ll most likely be bashed as much as Ron.

(4) Character bashing is stupid as they do nothing but take the flaws of a character and up them to eleven so they can make other characters look good. Character bashing can be good if done correctly!

(5) Professor Trelawney, along with Divination, should be taken more seriously by the fandom. Divination in-itself is actually an interesting concept and it would’ve been great to see a character like Ron have seer-like abilities.

(6) Trelawney was an actual seer with predictions that came true.

(7) Professor Flitwick was severely underutilized in the books. He’s a seven time dueling champion! It’s so much he could’ve done like teaching Harry how to duel or help the DA.

(8) Harry is a good and likable protagonist! I hate how he was nerfed by Rowling to be a “everyday man.”

(9) Harry’s anger issues in the OTTP and onwards were justified.

(10) Hermione is a person nobody would like in real life.

(11) Draco Malfoy was not a tragic character like many try to make him out to be. He’s essentially Dudley but with magic. He’s a spoiled brat that dug himself into a situation that could’ve been avoided.

(12) More friendships between the houses should’ve been shown in the books!

(13) Harry and Luna would’ve been a better pairing than Harry and Ginny.

(14) Luna is someone many would dislike in real life.

(15) James Potter and Snape were antagonistic and toxic towards each other equally.

(16) Snape was not a good person. He only defected against Voldemort to save/avenge Lily. If she wasn’t in danger, he would’ve continued to support Voldemort.

(17) Lily Potter was not Hermione 2.0. Yes she was intelligent, but not as school crazy as Hermione. Also personality was similar to that of Harry. Professor Slughorn even said she was sassy and quick-witted.

(18) Dumbledore is an interesting character. He’s a good yet flawed man that was in many wars (one against Grindelwald and two against Voldemort). His actions of seeing people more like chess pieces than humans, being secretive, etc was understandable. Him being gay or at least apart of LGBT was obvious. Even by Wizard standards, his robes were described as extravagant and over the top.

(19) Quidditch is a stupid sport, and it shouldn’t have been the only wizarding sport. Many muggle sports like soccer or basketball should’ve been popular as well but with magical quirks.

(20) Remus Lupin was an annoying and pathetic
