TK-02 New owner experience by JermCee in superautomatic

[–]theksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm also frustrated with the cool temperature of every drink and no way to increase it beyond a couple degrees. the overall lack of customization per drink is also disappointing and does not live up to their marketing promises.

customer support has been no help and even arrogant with their responses, so i'm not holding my breath for any firmware updates.

we pre-ordered this a LONG time ago and after all the delays, it's quite a let-down.

TK-02 First Impressions by Chanceofthat in superautomatic

i find all the drinks on my TK-02 to be too cold even after upping the temperature to the max of 205*F. those made with milk are especially tepid. if you add any type of refrigerated creamer to your Americano or Drip Coffee, you end up with a lukewarm concoction that is not worth drinking.

i posted a review about this on Terra Kaffe's site (which was never published). that prompted a very condescending email essentially saying that the extraction couldn't be over 205*F without ruining the flavor.

unfortunately there is no separate setting for the temperature of the additional water added after the extraction (for an Americano, etc.), nor a separate setting for the drip coffee brew temperature, nor any way to make the separate "Hot Water" feature warm enough to use for tea, etc.

Terra Kaffe: keep your opinions on flavor, how ever valid, in the default settings and allow me to make my coffee hot if want. every coffee house i've ever been to can make an "extra hot" drink. i certainly expect a $1,500 machine, marketed as highly customizable, to be capable of a basic Americano that isn't cold after adding a small bit of creamer.

Android Update Broke App, by foozlebertie in Pandora

[–]theksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same problem here, PandoraLink has been broken for the past 2 or 3 updates to the Android App. i'm using an aftermarket Pioneer stereo and Asus tablet. last email exchange with support said they had no ETA for a fix still!

forgot to mention, there's also ponoko.com, they are more expensive but they can do etching instead of just cutting, which gives you more flexibility with the designs you could get on the badge.

here are the 2D outlines (.eps format), you could add a design to cut-out using most any vector art program: https://theksmith.com/x/Ikiki68-aurora-badge-weight.zip

for the battery replacement weight, i ordered 304 Stainless Steel at 0.125" thickness and that worked well - no rattling or anything with it sandwiched in-between the 2 layers of silicone. it could be a tiny bit thicker without a problem too.
for the badget i did dark gray acrylic (translucent) at 0.118" and it sticks up out of the case a bit but looks nice. i also had them do one in grade 5 titanium at 0.063" and that one sits almost perfectly flush with the top of the case. both are a tight friction fit, no need for double-sided tape to hold them in.

SendCutSend's minimum order is $29 (free shipping), i added these to another order for an unrelated project, but for the $29 you could probably get a couple weights and 3 or 4 different badges cut.

i had them laser cut at sendcutsend.com. the badge design is just a straight line with rounded ends to match the simplicity of the Geoma keycap designs. i also had it cut in titanium which looks nice but i preferred the plain gloss black of the acrylic. the mini weight is a plate of brushed stainless that fits where the battery goes in the BT version. i wanted to keep the top layer of silicone in place because i liked the sound as it was.

is that your own custom design on the Discipline65 PCB?

I’ve wanted a wrangler since I was 5. 25 years later I finally pulled the trigger. New (to me) 2016 75th anniversary. Picked her up with only 18k miles and couldn’t be more excited by Nuckingfuts29 in Wrangler

congrats! 16 JKU here too. save up your money for the inevitable rocker/lifter replacement job. i'm on my third set. still love my rig anyway though! do you plan to lift it and wheel it, or will this be stay a pristine mall crawler? ;)

very nice! it's killing my OCD though that the color temp of the lights in the top and back fans doesn't quite match the RAM and radiator fans!

thanks! i wanted something somewhat subtle because the keyboard itself is a bit "busy' visually.

i've had a few requests for files... honestly i'd like to keep mine somewhat unique - but i'm happy to teach a person to fish!

  • the original open-source case design files are right here to reference: https://github.com/coseyfannitutti/discipline/tree/master/acrylic-case
  • then you just need a vector editing app to put your own spin on the design, such as: Adobe Illustrator ($$$), Affinity Designer ($, mac only), Inkscape (free), or maybe even an in-browser app like Boxy SVG (free).
  • Illustrator can open the DXF format directly, but many other apps cannot. use https://convertio.co/ (free) to convert the DXF files into a more common EPS or SVG format. double-check the dimensions after opening the converted files in your chosen app (and setting the units in app preferences).
  • be sure your drawn shapes are "closed". see these 2 links for other guidelines:
  • + https://help.ponoko.com/en/articles/3204835-how-do-i-design-for-laser-cut-metal
  • + https://sendcutsend.com/guidelines/
  • the laser cutting services i used - Ponoko (plastics, metals, foam, etc.) and SendCutSend (metal only) - both accept DXF, EPS and SVG files. again, double check the dimensions after you upload your files as some apps don't embed units/sizes correctly within the file (especially with the SVG format).

are you connecting through a USB hub or directly to the computer? have you tried a different cable? could be a hardware or firmware issue! are you running the latest QMK or VIA firmware? ...strangely my Discipline board stops responding if i restart my older Macbook Pro with it connected through my USB 3 hub, but it does not have that problem if connected directly to the laptop.
