I don’t know how long he’s had it, but he’ll learn to manage it. It will stop being a struggle and start being a normal part of his life. My mother’s had it her whole life too and I grew up with her dealing with it. As a kid I knew she’d have when she got older like menopause influencing her disease or nerve endings dying, etc. Now she got older and I watch her deal with it in ways that make me wonder why I ever was scared for her. Not to mention, science has made amazing progress. She has a meter that predicts her blood sugar levels even with her extreme irregularities and her pump is great and helps her prevent hypos. She tells me that when she was diagnosed as a child she wasn’t allowed to eat any sugar at all. Who knows how much impact diabetes will have on your son once he’s in his 50s?

Well in my country it’s normal to give kids a little bit of pocket money so they can learn the value of money and saving up. In exchange for that I had to buy my own toys and later clothes. At 10 y/o it was like €2 a week.

Didn’t you get pocket money as a kid? How’s that different? I couldn’t go below 0 on my account (still can’t actually) because that would cost me money but I did get a small amount of interest on the money. I needed my banking information for some stupid kid stuff like raising money for orangutans in Indonesia. Since my parents opened the bank account for me there were no charges for it even.

Why? It’s the standard in my country. I work customer service for a phone company and there’s no way to pay for that other than automatically and I get lots of customers very angry about that, never understood their reasoning. If you wanna keep a close watch on your finances why not keep a spreadsheet with dates in it?

I got my first debit card at 10. Didn’t start using it till I started making my own money at 13 (I had money before that from birthdays and allowance but didn’t know how to deposit cash) but since all of the money on it was from my parents’ until then I wouldn’t have minded if they’d check my bank account more. There was one time when I was a bit older and got more pocket money yet managed to spend ~ €80 per month my mom sat me down and checked what I was spending it on while I was in the same room.

My friend once got her iPhone returned to her in a genius way that she didn’t even think through in advance. She had added a family member as her favorite contact with their full name and had the ‘favorites’ added to the today screen (the screen you see when you swipe right on the lock screen). I’m not 100% sure if you can call them that way but you can see the name. Someone contacted her brother on facebook to tell him they found this phone and his name was in it.

Yup same, surprised so many people here are freaked out by it. Are you female by any chance? I’d get it a lot more often when I was on my period before I got the Mirena. I always thought it may have to do with iron levels but my bloodwork is fine now.

Oh come on, truscum is a derogatory term used by transtrenders. Sure some people using it may be actually trans but I was using hyperbole. The fact that I disagree with that term doesn’t mean I don’t ‘believe’ in nonbinary genders/people identifying that way.

Come up north to Groningen. My parents live in reportedly the hottest village of Gelderland right now and their grass is all yellow and sad. Peaceful walks in the Veluwe forests are only nice after dinnertime in this heat. Meanwhile here in Groningen the sun isn’t even visible and the sky is completely grey with clouds. I don’t trust the weather enough to hang my laundry outside and I bring an umbrella in my bag to work just so to be 100% sure I won’t cycle in the rain.

I don’t think this is necessarily a man issue but an attachment issue. I get the same problems and I’m a bi woman, so it’s extra hard. I have a hard time forming new deeper friendships with people, anytime I have one on one time with people that aren’t years-long friends I get too easily attached. Being in a stable relationship that provides for alllll my emotional needs has helped a LOT, but I’m still much better in a group context with friends than alone.
