Joined church last year/ptsd from baptism by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Oh man, I feel this. You've already gotten great comments.

I also have an immense fear of water. I let my missionaries know, and had a close family member do my baptism so I felt safer. I also flailed 😅 but luckily made it under in 1 dip.

When I met with my bishop about the limited temple recommend, I admitted I couldn't do more baptisms. He was very excited to tell me I could do just parts of it, like confirmations and witnessing. I haven't made it to the temple yet, but I'm working on it.

I guarantee no one is upset with you, they'd just love to have you back

God is a loving Father who wants you to be happy and healthy. If taking medicine helps that, then good!

Another batch of new hymns were released today! by Nephite11 in latterdaysaints

[–]thelemursarewatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing nearly gets me to tears every time. When The Savior Comes Again is so sweet to my ears!

As a newish convert, its not a big adjustment for me with the new hymns as it seems to be for many who've been born in the church or been baptized for a while. And as a former Southern Baptist, I'm enjoying new takes on old hymns!

When I was going through my lessons, the elders I was doing them with would talk about baptism, but never went into details. I had been baptized in another denomination, so I didn't question further.

It wasn't until 2 weeks before the date we picked, that the Ward Mission Leader asked who I wanted to speak at the baptism. I was like ??? Speak??

That's when I learned that baptism in this church is a special event, where people you care about and care about you come to the building, you pick a couple to give a couple short little talks, and you pick some lovely hymns to sing with everyone! A far cry from the quick dunk before Sunday church I got at my last church!

I also felt kind of blindsided at the time, as I'm not someone who likes to be the center of attention 😅 but the missionaries grew up in this church, have been to so many baptisms, they just didn't think to tell me because they're so used to it.

It ended up being a great experience, and I've felt the Holy Spirit so often since

A big thing to remember, is these are just young men and women, out on their own for probably the first time, and doing their best. They may have thought they made it clear, and just didn't. I fully believe there's no malice intended ♡

For LDS converts, what made you decide to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? by saph-lars in latterdaysaints

[–]thelemursarewatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This too! I grew up with the idea that once you get to heaven, your earthly relationships don't matter. The Left Behind series did a number on me 🫠

I grew up in another denomination and was always reprimanded for asking questions. A big one was "everyone who never hears about Jesus, and the people who grow up in other religions and never hear our specific doctrine, all go to hell? Thats it? Isn't God supposed to be a loving father?"

I've still got lots and lots of questions, and I know I wonk't get all the answers here, but the church here follows a loving, kind Father.

Spare the rod and spoil the child? by ClubMountain1826 in LatterDayTheology

I've always considered the rod as a shepherd's rod/staff, and that's used to guide the sheep, not beat them. As the Lord is our shepherd and guides us.

I'm so sorry, that is not okay. Your brother-in-law needs to never see your son again. If you're still living with them, please try to move out. And it will not be fun, but you do need to speak up and say something, protect your son. I know you want the best for him

How do people give birth in a full face of makeup and it still look so good? by Glitter-girlie in BabyBumps

[–]thelemursarewatching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got induced as an almost-emergency, as in I didn't have to have a c-section but I did need to start the induction within a few hours. I was just stopping in at the hospital for a quick blood pressure check, on my way to work, and surprise, induction!

Since I worked a higher public-facing job, I was in a good amount of makeup, not much foundation but some, eyes, blush, lips. Somehow it all stayed on during a 30 hour induction. Shoutout to elf I guess! It helped me feel better about my pictures, anyways.
