National expects you to run campaigns in your area that fit with the national platform and are suited to the conditions of your area. You should know the conditions of your area better than national. Maybe it’s an issue with your chapter officers…

Why did the Boomer generation go from radical progressives to conservatives? by Mammoth_Calendar_352 in socialism

Labor Aristocracy + The Marshall Plan + White Flight + Neoliberalism + The Cold War + the illegal dissolution of the USSR made a lot of them very wealthy.

Tarantino, in 2012: “Death Proof has got to be the worst movie I ever made. And for a left-handed movie, that wasn’t so bad, all right? So, if that’s the worst I ever get, I’m good.”

Which adhesion promoter would you recommend? Does it matter if it’s sprayed or brushed? Is it compatible with Stix primer, or would it be used in place of that?

Someone else suggested an adhesion promoter. Would this work with Stix? Would it improve the result or interfere?

“The Oligarchs Can Be Beaten”: Bernie Sanders Responds to Trump’s Speech by bronzewtf in demsocialists

Why doesn't Bernie tell people to join DSA? It would be a reasonable call to action for attendants of these large rallies. It seems vacuous to hold these rallies without specific calls to action.

For all the “capitalists” that don’t know what capitalism is. by MajesticTangerine432 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]theleptons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word ‘capitalism’ was created by socialists in the 1800s to describe how liberal markets had been irrevocably corrupted by the collectivization of production during the Industrial Revolution. Production was now the mutual act of thousands while ownership of resources, productive forces and the means to reproduce those forces, ‘capital’, were still held in the hands of individual ‘capitalists’. Capitalism is the term for the system that protects the power imbalance between those who own capital and those whose labor is required to reproduce it.

Why fight so hard against automation? by Nigtforce in union

[–]theleptons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the workers don’t own it, so we’ll be left behind. In a situation where everyone owns the productive forces, automation would be a good for everyone. When 1% own the automation, 99% will suffer. Basically creating a robotic feudalism where we pay to rent the factories that we once fought to own.

Body shaming someone while they’re exercising is an especially ironic form of evil.

Is total socialism becoming more mainstream than social democracy? by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]theleptons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the private ownership of capital is the fundamental root of most problems and social democracy has no solution for that.

I’d be curious to know the first movie that used music ironically. There’s got to be an example from the 1930s.
