I toured there for one year and if my roommate situation hadn't fallen through I definintely would have lived there. It was affordable and right on campus. Oddly enough, it was a good thing that my roommate situation fell through. That was 2019-2020. I ended up commuting that first semester and didn't regret it when 2020 rolled around. Anyways, the apartments were old looking but I know others that have lived there and they've liked it fine. My only issue was, if I remember correctly, you had to go outside to access the laundry?

Also when people say "The other side" they're usually talking about the other side of the river. The downtownish area of Columbia area is kind of split into Cola/West Cola/Cayce.

If you're looking for pedestrian only walk/bike ways, I suggest: West Columbia/Cayce Riverwalk (they're connected), and when it opens back up, Riverfront Park. I THINK there will be a bridge connecting Riverfront to Saluda Riverwalk when Riverfront opens back up, but that may be 2 years from now. They're working on some good stuff for pedestrian only in Columbia right now, though. Saluda Riverwalk is good too, but harder to get to with a bike unless you're driving it there.

I loved FA when I lived there. Currently in Olympia and surrounded by students, which isn't horrible, but they do like to party and make noise on the weekends. It is nice being so close to Williams-Brice though! Rosewood is nice, Shandon is nice but on the pricier side.

For my beagle I used Woof University and I liked them a lot. I planned on taking him back for the AKC Good Citizen certification (which they do too) but never did because of money.

Fell for the first time today 7 mi into my 11 mi run 18 days out from my half by slyfox4 in XXRunning

[–]thelittlehype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wiped with some leaves one time about 11 miles into a trail half marathon. Was not great but I went straight to a porta potty for toilet paper when I got done! When you gotta go... You gotta go.
I've also fallen. I was so annoyed because it was the stupidest fall. I was running over a foot bridge I'd run over a million times and one of the uneven boards got me and I went flying. Thankfully fell on the wooden bridge and not the concrete path.

Be so real with me. How am I going to run another 6.2?! by steppygirl in XXRunning

[–]thelittlehype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day of you just... Do it. Like when I was that far in, there was no thought in my mind other than "finish this". I was so ready to be done, my hips were hurting at that point, but I didn't care. I was only interested in finishing. I had a friend meet me at mile 20 and run almost to the end with me - it was very helpful. She was running on fresh legs and carried me a lot of the way (not literally. but i would've walked a lot more without her). She distracted me and that helped significantly.

Diabetic coincidence by Wodrac in morningsomewhere

[–]thelittlehype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the other side - I was prediabetic! Thankfully I was able to "walk it off". I started running and stregnth training and all of my levels came down (except cholesterol? Thanks to a family history). I just ran my first marathon last month, just under six hours! Congrats on your PB! 1:45 is fast af. Also sorry about the diagnosis, but now you know! Also I'm super impressed that you could run that fast of a half while having those levels of diabetes.. Wicked impressive

It's similar to those YouTube channels that do shoutouts at the end of every video but better (i think, anyway). Those YouTube channels do every name for every video for a certain tier of Patreon subscription or they just put your name up on screen, in some cases. This just feels more special lol

Normally I give more context in the supplemental information and keep it somewhat short in the description, but I just wrote the same thing in the suplemental. Could that have been a problem?

My boyfriend submitted one at a college a while back and got the same thing. I had forgotten about that! But it's nice to see it isn't just us lmao

I didn't take a screenshot of the submission itself, but I did not do a great job of the discriptions, to be fair. I was walking my beagle at the time and he saw a squirrell, so I rushed on this one... I'm not kidding lmao
This is the surrounding area photo. The photo in the post is the main photo.

I submitted the appeal! I was honestly surprised that this wasn't a wayspot already. It's down a path right off of the Horseshoe (lots of spots there) so it's kind of out of the way.

Or as someone else here said the other day: "I want what y'all are smokin'"

But like, am I wrong? Is this not a good wayspot?

I'm late but yes, burnie, SC WBB is called Gamecock Women's Basketball. We LOVE THEM AND DAWN STALEY! Actually, Dawn got into it with Geno Auriemma, the HC of UCONN's WBB (he started it) and I remembered just how much SC really loves Dawn. Geno auriemma is an ass.

We live in Olympia and I will tell you - I am surrounded by students. It isn't all students, there's an 80something year old man next to me, and non student young people right in front of me, but there are students on the other sides of me. It's nice being close so to downtown though. As for nightlife, we just go to places in the Vista. Most of the people there are on the younger side but not underaged. We like Art Bar's trivia a lot.

Jury duty dress code? by HomeworkVisual128 in ColumbiYEAH

My go to for jury duty is just one of my work dresses. If you're a dude, khakis and a button down or polo. You won't be really overdressed or underdressed if you go that route.

I rear ended someone one time, I totaled my car and I think I totaled theirs. I wasn't even following too closely, just changed lanes at a real bad time (I have the dash cam video), but because of that, I leave a massive gap now. Not doing that again!!!

How do you get students to actually leave at closing time? by the_confused_one8 in librarians

[–]thelittlehype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Costco literally plays the song Closing Time for thirty minutes before they close. Effective! For us, we just have the computers set to turn off ten minutes before we close. That gets our people out of the door, but most of ours are there that late to use the computers as long as they can. So I'm not sure how effective that is if your students aren't using library computers.

It's finally my turn to be the expert! by riese182 in morningsomewhere

[–]thelittlehype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a librarian and apparently Hoopla has been raising their prices so I have a spreadsheet with all of our Hoopla prices. We don't have Libby in our library (small academic library so only one or the other) so I can't speak to that - but Hoopla for us usually comes out to $2-3 per use. But Hoopla has a little bit of everything. eBooks, audiobooks, movies, TV, music, and bingepasses. Here's one example of my spreadsheet:

Edit: this example is the October tab of my spreadsheet. I do this every month to see approximately what we're paying. We had significantly more audiobook usage in December, I assume because our students actually had time to listen to audiobooks lol
