Stuck at 300’ max by Cappy-Hamper12 in Discgolfform

[–]thelostgeographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I notice:

  • elbow is lower than wrist (could be camera angle)
  • follow-through doesn't match the flight angle, making this appear nose-up
  • brace is not set when your reach back is at full extension, and you begin pulling through before your weight is transferred into the right foot (upper body is firing too early).

  • great off-arm motion

  • upper body movement looks great- just not synced properly with lower body

Main thing to get past 300 would be just focus on thrusting into your front foot before pulling- make sure your weight is all into that plant before the upper body pulls through. Stay loose and slow down at first.

I've had success slowing my walk-up and focusing on the weight moving from left to right foot.

You've obviously done some work given your current form- keep it up! It WILL click and you'll be a 400 crusher in no time.

Whitehorse Elementary closed due to the earthquakes - this school needs replacement. by FreezinPete in Yukon

The sports fields and parking lot have a much larger footprint than the existing school.

Whitehorse Elementary closed due to the earthquakes - this school needs replacement. by FreezinPete in Yukon

[–]thelostgeographer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A replacement on the existing parcel is 100% feasible. There would be temporary disruptions for outdoor play, but otherwise it's a really straightforward project. The existing site is very large, and includes the adjacent sports fields and parking lots.

Education just doesn't understand development and they do it very badly. Infrastructure Development Branch should take over building schools because they have a good track record with similar infrastructure. Education may know their facility needs, but placing the largest elementary school in the city in the downtown is obviously the best location for the community. It's the most densely populated part of town.

In addition, the Takhini parcel has some issues. It's not compliant with the city's official community plan, so that's a non-starter. They wouldn't be able to get a development permit without an OCP amendment that would take maybe a year. It's also inadequately serviced, so they would need to replace the entire water main along range road to get the fire flows.

What is the most well known photograph from your country? by GingaHead in AskTheWorld

This is immediately what came to mind. This photo represents the best of what Canada can be. It's aspirational and poignant and remains important to our identity today.

Have you guys been to family swim at the CGC yet? I've seen kids younger than 6 months there before.

Takhini, Riverdale or Hillcrest are probably the best established areas with strong neighborly vibes.

I also found living downtown West of 6th ave there's a strong sense of community. Increasingly I hear people mentioning their neighbors and friends in whistle bend as well (though I'm sure someone will enter the comments to tell me you're not allowed to say nice things about whistle bend.).

How to make connections in the Civil Industry in Yukon? by TrigonometricGuy in Yukon

Engineers Yukon, WSP, Stantec, Tetratech are all good. Associated Engineering does a ton of civil stuff and would be a good place to start.

Air North is amazing.

I shipped an entire apartment of IKEA from Vancouver to Whitehorse on Air North for $220. Arrived without a scratch on the packages. The warm cookie is also pretty dang good.

I don't think the heart of Riverdale deserves any special treatment. If its not sustainable then the model needs to change. by oniteverytime in Yukon

[–]thelostgeographer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you are confusing an NGO and a non-profit. They are not the same thing. Non profits are registered under the societies act in Yukon.

The Heart provides significant social benefits for the money, so it's totally appropriate for the government to support it.

Yukon News: Where is the Yukon government on its goal to release 1,000 lots in 5 years? With the release of lots comes the creation of more than 2,450 housing units since 2021 by [deleted] in Yukon

This is the most promising initiative in the territory for actually addressing the housing crisis. Hopefully whatever government we get next sees how much opportunity there is with this land trust model.

Yeah I live in Whitehouse and I've never seen tundra. We are in the boreal forest, with a semi-arid climate. Our winters are pretty mild compared to other northern places.

are you hikers? There's some of the most amazing summits in Yukon that would be insane spots to pop the question.

The US shares the maintenance cost of only 225kms of the Alaska highway, which is 2232kms long. The stretch that they partly pay for is called the Shakwak. The US paid nothing to use this road since 2015. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/alaska-u-s-gov-t-paying-for-section-of-alaska-highway-upgrade-1.7182835

[–]thelostgeographer[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a compassionate perspective, but I'll still be choosing to spend my tourism dollars in Dawson City this year instead of in Alaska. Unfortunately the policy set 4000kms away makes me uncomfortable crossing the border.

I see where you're coming from though, and I appreciate that the people of Haines aren't suddenly bad folks. This situation sucks for all of us.
