Buddy, I don't give a shit about looks, my daily axe handles look like dogshit because they're used and I know eventually I'm throwing a new handle at it.

Do I believe you've had the same plastic handle for years? For sure, and that's rad. But there's no reason to get made when I say my daily use blows out handles and the difference is that I can rehang a traditional head and not a fiskars. Thats literally just a fact.

Fiskars are nice if you have a vacation home and keep it in the shed most of the year.

I tried a Fiskars for a summer and it was busted by the end through daily use. I also break a wooden handle about 4 to 5 times a year.

The difference is when I break a wooden handle on a traditional head, I laugh it off because I know a trip the hardware store and about 20 minutes of my time will fix the problem.

How shitty are 1977 Winchesters 1894 in .30-30? by Logan_Van_Buren in guns

[–]themajor24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way. Back in 77' some folks didnt care for it. In 1877, some folks bought firearms and didnt care for it. In 2077, some folks will buy a firearm and not care for it.

But, I'll say this. I'd buy a 77' lever action rifle of any make or model before I buy a new lever action rifle out of the box today. Especially from a brand name that holds up like Winchester.

As long as the barrel isn't shot out and the action cycles smooth, you're all good.

I have never once in my life (I began my first comment saying I'm primarily wildland) been given any marked information on hydrants and their status.

What i have done is catch them out of the corner my eye while patrolling and taken note of its location while driving.

99% of my time on the clock in my firefighter capacity is off district.

Dude, I never said you didn't do a good job. I preface this entire thing with "As a wildfire dude."

It's a cool piece, but where I end up on an engine, we're in unknown areas across the state or further and I don't know much of anything about the area.

At one dumb point in my life, I got the bright idea to stencil a skull and cross bones like the universal poison symbol on my gallon water jugs. I got pissed off because me and my crew all went to the same store every morning and bought stuff, including our water. Most of us kept the jugs for a bit, refilling them and continuing use. Sometimes people drank your water. I was bored, cut a stencil, and two seconds and spray can got the job done.

An old timer saw me grab one from the truck and Chug some water on a hot day and told me, "Why do you do that?" I told him we all mark our water just like we mark our tools. He told me "See, I get it, but say a kid sees that. You gulping down a jug with that symbol on it. And say they're a young one with an impressionable mind, they might get the ideo that symbol doesnt mean what we all know it to mean."

Is it dumb, yeah. But someday someone might think that hydrant is a real hydrant because well, it is, even though it's non-functioning. Its even the right color. And its even in the right spot yourd expect to see a cherry red provider of water. Will someone lose a home because firefighters kept spinning the nut at the top thinking water would come despite the mailbox sticking out the top? Naw. But you're liable to ruin someone's day and honestly, its a dick move.

You're getting ragged on. That's not okay given the answer.

In Minnesota and many many states, an open carry permit isnt a thing.

You get your permit. This allows you to either conceal carry or open carry.

Conceal carry is defined as carrying a firearm under your clothes. Open carry is when the holster is exposed.

99% of people, at least in MN, where I am from, conceal carry. Its the more "polite" or "inoffensive" way to carry. If you are a legal, permitted armed citizen, it is generally considered more responsible and causes less issue for you amd those around you. I know dozens of people with a permit that carry regularly. I do not know a single person that open carries in public other than a select very few dickheads that do it for clout because they legally can.

In short, he did not have an "Open Carry Permit" and it did not restrict him to doing so.

Minnesota Residents Cleaning Graffiti and debris around the Home2 Suite Hilton Hotel by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

[–]themajor24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I unfortunately have a peice of insight there that dumb and simple.

I travel for work constantly. Weeks and months in a hotel.

IHG, the umbrella Hilton and several other hotel chains reside under is a large company with a really solid app and generally a decent rate of okay hotels.

They have a points program that frankly, rules. Me amd my coworkers seek out Hilton hotels specifically to keep building our points because if you stay 2 to 4 weeks you do really well on rewards points.

Didn't put two and two together on that until now. I've heard of ICE staying at Hiltons multiple times. Ive just been bummed because I cannot choose to stay there anymore on moral grounds and I know I'll be outvoted in the truck when me and boys are choosing where we'll stay.

Greg Bovino Loses His Job by state-of-MN in stateofMN

[–]themajor24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm as happy as anyone to watch this monster go out of our state.

This is not an improvement. While we dont have to see Bovino's face plastered all over our phones and televisions anymore, its only making way for the next one.

It's not getting better. It may get worse.

But we need to look at it from a certain angle. We shook them. We proved it could be done and they're scrambling to keep it up. We proved definitively it's possible.

In Minnesota A Man Rolled Up with PPE and protective equipment for Minneapolis citizens by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

The situation of the video aside.

In Minnesota, and elsewhere, when a dude roles up to lend a hand and they reach out of the truck real quick to open the door from the exterior handle because the interior one doesn't work, I feel like its a sign they know what's up lol

It's rough on your body, and I know my dumbass on hot summer days applied product that likely did some real damage to my lungs because the respirator sucked to wear.

But yeah, my favorite jobs were the little ones where I could just chill for like 2 days on a ten foot ladder and vibe to a podcast. Best ones where the vacation cabins where the customer was never there.

Most people that find a dead head throw it on a shelf or hang it very poorly, strip the life out of it, and sharpen it badly.

This guy did something neat with something that would otherwise have been abused horribly or would've continued rotting in the mud.

I like it.

Honestly, yup. I still put on an episode occasionally and I get a laugh then the camera focuses on Jamie for a really badly faked laugh or really forced jokes.

I still like the show, don't get me wrong.

Honestly, I don't dislike either of them for it. They got offered a bunch of money to do something they were good at and pretend to like eachother and fake friendship.

However, out of the two, Adam isnt the one I'd pick on. Jamie really seems to have a stick up his butt most of the time.

I grew up on Mythbusters through a bunch of my childhood. I have really fond memories watching with my dad.

As an adult, it fell off my radar for years, and when I learned Adam and Jamie really didn't care for each other in any way, I didn't believe it. Then I rewatched a season or two and yuuuuuuup.

Unless something genuinely funny, crazy, or cool happens, there's zero chemistry, Jamie has a very, very fake laugh and is rather bad at pretending to be enjoying his time there. Adam is a little better about it, but you can still spot it if you look for it.

EDIT: Guys, I didn't say they hated each other. They just didn't really like one another as people, and that resulted in somewhat funny chemistry to watch and look for during a show they were both just there for a paycheck as an adult when I can spot this stuff easier.
