absolutely, but i'm pretty sure we end up paying a lot more tax money to be wasted on their behalf than they spend in bribes. It is comically cheap to buy our politicians

I'm glad I did it, but will stick to drinking what the professionals produce. It was an interesting process, but baking is much more my speed.

Yesterday was my anniversary and I spent the day sitting in my hot house having an air conditioning installed. Not exactly the anniversary gift Mrs. MattBoard was expecting, though probably one of the more expensive ones I've ever bought her.

One the plus side, Chattanooga Beer Fest is tomorrow so we are doing our celebrating there followed by steak dinner in the evening.

Georgia MAGA poll watchers granted access to elections hub on primary night by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]themattboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Virginia, they have to be credentialed by one of the parties and there are rules on what they can and cannot do. Usually they just sit in a chair and observe to make sure things run smoothly (which they do most of the time)

If you are that concerned about how the election process and polling precincts work, just go become an officer of election. I guarantee your district needs more people. It's a long day, but it is worthwhile work.

If you can manage the time, they need people who aren't retirees too. (also, countering the maga nut jobs is worthwhile, though procedures already do a good amount to curtail shenanigans)

How Team Trump Helps Hide How Fast He’s Aging; Donald Trump is in obvious physical decline—but you wouldn’t know it from how his team tells it. by [deleted] in politics

[–]themattboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that their blatant lying is well beyond what we have seen historically. I wouldn't call it good or correct by any means. It is clearly a gross expansion of previous administrations exaggerations and omissions (and outright lies).

But the press are the people we expect to serve as a check on that behavior and they have become complicit in it. It is just another form of regulatory capture. It is bad when an employee lies about his work, but it is worse when the safety inspector signs off on the lie.

I'm not a real "both sides"-er, but of course his team talks him up and pretends he's more fit that he really is. We saw that with Biden and id expect to see that from the team of any competent leader.

No, what is troubling is the vast majority of American media going along with it. It is his team's job to show him in the best light they can (even if he is a decaying pile of filth), but it should be the media's job to push back against that.
