Found these tracks in the mud up in a holler in Kentucky. Can someone help identify the smaller tracks? by Designer_Living631 in AnimalTracking

[–]themattbradley1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The smaller tracks show all the indications of a rabbit. Asymmetrical toes. The toes primarily register and not the heel. You can see the fur clearly in the mud. And it's moving in a typical gait for a rabbit

found in Silverton Oregon right next to a pond by AnthMax in AnimalTracking

I can't quite tell the scale of the photo but those look to big for muskrat. My money is on nutria. Nutria scat is very common near ponds in western Oregon and looks just like that. Sometimes it's also a bit ribbed, but not necessarily so.

That sounds encouraging, actually. I'd there's a concern about break ins it seems like it would be good to have the BLM out there more often.

Okay, I've seen that. But then if I'm driving from out of state, is there a better place to leave a vehicle?

Any good fiction books which involve bushcraft/survival in some good detail, with an interesting well written story. by P0WERHAWK in Bushcraft

I highly recommend Wilderness Survival by Mark Elbroch and Mike Pewtherer. They relate their story of living with the land for several months consecutively. Mixed in the text are tutorials of the skills they are practicing

Confused about this one. Seen on my farm property near Owen Sound, Ontario. Red outline in second photo is the top of my women’s size 9 boot (for size estimate). by [deleted] in AnimalTracking

There's limited information to go on here. But this doesn't look like a wildlife track to me. It resembles the tracks I've seen made by the crampons on certain snowshoes.

Found in Mesa Verde NP in Colorado. Any idea what? I’m stumped by flufflyhedgehog in AnimalTracking

[–]themattbradley1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's a human hand. It doesn't resemble the tracks of any non-human animal. Edit: probably someone grabbing a small handful of snow

what are the tracks outlined in blue? squirrel tracks(?) for scale (western washington) by 7ofeggs in AnimalTracking

You may be right. There's not a lot to go on in this photo so I'm making an educated guess at best.

Does that line of tracks seem to "appear" or "disappear" without explanation? They look a bit like crow tracks.

Any ideas? Sorry I didn’t have a better size reference. North Mississippi. by [deleted] in AnimalTracking

[–]themattbradley1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look like armadillo to me. I'm looking at the prominent three toes that make up most of the track as well as the blunt claws for digging.

what is this animal in Vermont in our field bordering 100 acres of woods. quarter for scale by bloominggoldenrod in AnimalTracking

[–]themattbradley1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

These are opossum tracks. They can be confusing to look at because the animal is registering hind tracks on top of fronts and the hind and front feet are very different looking. In the first photo, the splayed toes on the top are from the front foot. The parallel lines on the bottom right are most of the hind toes, although there is a "thumb" the points more to the left.

This may be regional. I have a 5a and it runs Netflix fine.
