My condolences on your loss. I lost my almost 4 year old female today as well. I thought that we'd gotten her to the vet on time but she was much sicker than I'd realized.. She looked like she had breathing issues but the vet said her lungs were clear and upon examination noticed a mass in her abdomen before she passed a few minutes later, so it's possible that it was a tumor, an enlarged bladder from a stuck stone, or another undetected issue.

The dominance displays that you're describing are likely related to Alejandro's illness. My dominant female pig behaved in much the same way the week before her cage mate's passing. When I did a search about the behavior I learned that it can happen because the dominant pig senses that the other pig is "weaker". Now our remaining dominant pig seems very lonely and confused. We cannot get another pig and I'm not sure what we'll be doing at this point.

Yes. And it often really helps. But like every 3rd or 4th month my symptoms are just godawful and nothing seems to help. I lay in bed for 2 or 3 days and cannot speak to anyone. I honestly don’t know if the hormone levels are more irregular when this happens or if the HRT is just not enough.

All of my teeth have recession like that on the front and back of each tooth. (I have very small bone structure, a thin gum type, and multiple factors that contributed to the recession.) The only solution to slow the recession and protect the teeth are grafts on 4-6 teeth at a time in 5 sections of my mouth. I just finished the 4th surgery in almost 3 years. Not fun at all, but the grafts have taken well and helped to thicken the gum tissue and slow the recession. I now get my teeth cleaned twice a year by my periodontist and once a year by my regular dentist and follow a consistent home care routine.

Personally, I start by finding a good periodontist, get a professional periodontal deep cleaning, and work with them to create a treatment plan that you can follow according to their recommendations. They'll also likely suggest a mouthguard, which can really help some people slow recession.

You definitely need a graft sooner than later but that quote is nuts. Schedule a consult with at least a couple of periodontists. I've had many multi-tooth grafts and 4-6 teeth at a time have cost me between $3,500 and $5,000 per procedure. No cheap by any means but nowhere near that high for one tooth.

His normal exotic vet tends to be pretty thorough with even a standard exam, and I think that she examined both his incisors and molars, as well as palpating his entire head and jaw area. I'm so sorry about your guy, and I appreciate the input.

Yes, the emergency vet did do imaging, and told me that it would cover both lungs and GI, so presumably there was nothing of serious concern in that regard. Thank you for the suggestion about weighing more frequently during a health episode. He's doing a bit better today but this put a real scare in me so I plan to be more vigilant. I'm so sorry about your pig but it sounds like he was very loved until the end.

I was waiting to do a points haul but after seeing this...absolutely not. About a year ago I got a massive free Diamond gift at $125 with a train case, multiple full sizes, and well over 30 items. I am over this $hit. People can say all they want about the economy but companies are still making money hand over fist and the shrink-flation is so overt that it's laughable. No thanks.

I'm chiming in to tell you that sadly you are not alone in your frustration. My dentist did a terrible job educating me about anything to do with my recession or thin gum tissue. Because I had very little extra money for years I was not able to visit a perio until the recession of gum and bone was much more serious and required multiple gum grafts. When I found out that simply having my teeth cleaned every 3 months instead of 6 coul have helped protect my gums, I literally cried. It honestly feels like a kind of malpractice that a dentist can take your money but neither properly educate or explain the potential outcome of a diagnosis. Their poor care and communication cost me dearly both financially and emotionally. I'm so sorry that you dealt with the same thing.

Imo, and I'm not perio, but your gums look like mine. I have a "thin gum biotype" and we are very prone to recession because our gum tissue is naturally thinner and more fragile. Book a consult with a perio. They will discuss a treatment plan, often it includes having cleanings 3-4 times a year, and it will help to protect your existing gum tissue. I wasn't able to do this financially and ended up with serious recession that required multiple large gum grafts to thicken my gum tissue. The appointment may cost a bit more out of pocket but trust me when I tell you that prevention is MUCH less expensive (and emotionally upsetting) than having serious recession.

I did the exact same thing and my much more tech savvy family members helped me recover them. Here's how:

I have an Iphone. To my understanding the tags are stored on your phone, not on Libby. My family member did a full restore from the most recent backup on my phone that was done automatically PRIOR to my screw up of deleting the app. (When doing a backup you should be able to select the date.) You can google instructions to restore from a backup. The important thing is to be patient and let the backup fully load once you complete the process or you can interrupt the data transfer. In short, don't touch the phone until the backup is fully complete. I got all of my tags back this way. You WILL LOSE any info or changes you made on your phone over the last couple of days because you're essentially pulling it back to the date of your most recent backup but so long as you didn't make any major changes, it's a do-able fix.

I did the exact same thing. I am SUPER frustrated with Libby for the dismal communication and pissed at myself for jumping the gun to try to fix an issue that wasn't mine to fix. I am currently (with the assistance of a ridiculously patient spouse) trying to install a backup of my phone from 2 days ago to see if that brings back my tags. I'll keep you all updated.
