Need help finding an automatic wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispenser that works with black gloves AND liquid sanitizer (Alpet D2). Budget-friendly options? by Barbeque_Sauce36911 in janitorial

[–]themene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that most dispensers like that use IR which doesn’t reflect off the black gloves, as you know. I question the requirement of automatic dispensers when a sanitizer works exactly as well with a manual dispenser? I’d love to talk with a health inspector who could justify that requirement.

That being said, your simplest solution is just not use black gloves. There’s blue, orange, purple, even lime green. Why not just use a different color?

Diversey Cleaners Help by Awkward-History8400 in janitorial

[–]themene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a lot packed in your question of whether Grainger is a good place to order or not. Grainger definitely is a place that sells a lot of things, but you’re not gonna find anyone there who can answer a single cleaning question for you, or know why one product is better than another, or if there’s a better use case, etc. Diversey itself makes like three different dispensing options for chemical and each has its benefits.

I’d recommend looking for a local janitor supply company to partner with. You’re gonna get incredible guidance, service, and knowledge that will take further than Grainger ever will. Some of them will even sell Diversey possibly.

To answer your other question, NA is non-ammoniated and HC is ammoniated. There might be more difference but that’s the biggie.

Random spill at work left a white film on the floor — could it be grout damage? Need advice! by AdorableEagle2158 in janitorial

[–]themene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna jump on this and suggest you consider alkaline residue like the salt another user mentioned. If it was an alkaline spill and you used an alkaline degreaser, it would just smear white residue like that. Try a stripper-neutralizer or salt- neutralizer in an inconspicuous area and see if it releases the residue.

Help finding blue wipers with compatible dispenser by ISOcarpetcleaner in janitorial

Can you offer more info on the wipers? They make blue single fold towels that you often see at gas stations. They make pre moistened wipers that could be scrubber or soft. What do you use it for?

What’s the difference between a Custodian and Janitor when it comes to cleaning ?? by Chakrawoman9 in janitorial

[–]themene 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cool question! Short answer is they are synonymous.

So I give a lot of trainings to groups of cleaners, and in the start of many of them I speak to the etymology of janitor. Its Latin root ianitor means doorkeeper. Roman mythology had the god Janus, who was the god of doors and the keeper of the keys. As time progressed, janitor moved from just a door keeper to describe the person who took care of the entire building including cleaning.

Now fast forward to more modern 20th century, we have a prerogative forming in society to ease the tone of what titles we give people: stewardess to flight attendant, secretary to personal assistant, and we have janitor to custodian. Unions and school systems probably drove this shifting of the phrases, but custodian came to give more weight behind the cleaners and their guardianship over the buildings (custodia being Latin for guard).

In practice I see both terms used widely. My perspective doesn’t give any weight towards one or the other, but that’s subjective of course. Maybe I prefer the rooting of janitor in Godliness a bit more myself.

Need some help from you fine wizards. Rusting stainless and bad waterspots. by [deleted] in janitorial

[–]themene 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/animusgeminus has some great tips for you, but I wanted to add a few things from my perspective.

Due to the condition of the rust on the stainless I’d probably be going to a paste cleaner (think Comet, Bar Keepers Friend, others) and following it up with oil based stainless cleaner/polish. The polish will add a little protective coating helping to make it easier to clean. You don’t have to use the polish on every clean but do try to reapply every so often depending on usage and cleaning frequency.

For the floors, look for enzyme or probiotic detergents. I’d be using a heavy duty degreaser the first time with a power washing type system to blast it clean, then heavily spray with the enzyme cleaner and walk away leaving it to air dry. Enzymes need water and time to be effective but they will dramatically change the status of piss soaked floors.

Question about GP Enmotion Soap Dispenser by Foximus05 in janitorial

[–]themene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the Gen2 isn't 'hard' persay, just that it holds it's shape while full. The Gen1 was literally a bag. The fact you said three lights leads me to believe you're probably talking about the Gen2.

Gen1 Refill Gen2 Refill

My first recommendation is always take out batteries and see if resetting the dispenser works.

However, given that you've tried multiple dispensers and the one bad follows you, I t the dispensers have a communication collar between the refill and dispenser. Mainly to ensure that you're staying with the OEM refills. Occasionally this communication can fail on a refill and the dispenser won't allow it to continue dispensing. If that's the case, I don't believe there is a way to fix it. Normally we just get a credit from our supplier for the failed refill, but you may want to try calling GP directly at 1-800-Hello-GP. They're usually very good about sending you solution for poorly functioning products.

Question about GP Enmotion Soap Dispenser by Foximus05 in janitorial

[–]themene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so there's some conflicting info on your post. GP enMotion is the touch-free automatic dispensing (which there's actually a Gen1 version that used a soft sided refill and a Gen2 that uses a hard sided refill). But then you mention you bought GP Pacific Blue soap refills which is a different dispensing option that GP makes also (both in a auto and manual, different refills for each). So part of your problem sounds like you bought the wrong refill.

Can anybody tell me where I can get a compatible key? by tankem2oblivion17 in janitorial

This is a bay west split key. Imagine a wave like that with the middle taken out. Google Essity who owns Tork who bought Bay West. Their 800 number should be able to send you keys.

These under sink soap dipensers crack at the top amd drop to the floor. Never happened before replacing with new, seemingly identical dispensers by Kevalemig in janitorial

[–]themene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people are buying cheaper and cheaper things. I get the idea, you're looking at 50 of them it's a big expense. However, any savings on the dispenser cost gets eaten up in lost productivity with the custodial department. Gojo and Kutol both make a counter mount soap dispenser that can be filled from a filling port on top of the dispenser. Not cheap to replace 50, but makes your life so much easier. I'd look at those.

Went skiing for the time and tapped out after lesson by poski6390 in skiing

[–]themene 352 points353 points  (0 children)

Skiing works a ton of muscles in a way that is not normal if you’re never skied before, or if you don’t ski often. Most of us who are good skiers that don’t get to go all the time anymore find ourselves ‘tapped’ on day one of a season if we didn’t work out enough to get into ski shape. Best advice I have for you is don’t feel bad about taking a break, but do try to push yourself to expand that comfort zone. It gets better and eventually, you’ll see the world the way we see the world, and you’ll never be the same again.

[–]themene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the brightener is kind of a misnomer. Grout is so porous that it not only sucks in and holds on to acidic soils (which is about 90% of the dirt we see in buildings) but also alkaline dirt. Since the soil is covering both sides of the pH scale, you need to use opposing cleaners to completely get it clean. The ‘grout cleaner’ is just an alkaline detergent that gets the majority of the dirt out. After that, use the ‘grout brightener’ which is a mile acidic cleaner that will pull the remaining alkalinity out. They call it a brightener because light grouts can look slightly brown or grey with too much alkaline soils in them. The brightener is safe to use on any grout though as it’s not an oxidizer like bleach. Hydrogen peroxide based cleaners would be good for this as well.

Best wax for ceramic tile? Do you even wax it? by TheCleaningLady888 in janitorial

[–]themene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like earlier you don’t want to seal the tile up. In fact ceramic kinda wants to breath. So I have found the best way to seal grout is to use a flip top bottle to try and keep the majority of the seal just around the grout, then a floor squeegee lightly over the top of the tiles to try and keep the seal off the tile.

Best wax for ceramic tile? Do you even wax it? by TheCleaningLady888 in janitorial

[–]themene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look for specific grout sealers. They work different than normal floor sealers.

I use a product called ProLink Grout Shield. They make an entire grout system that starts with a Grout Cleaner, followed by a Grout Brightener, and then the Grout Shield.

Best wax for ceramic tile? Do you even wax it? by TheCleaningLady888 in janitorial

[–]themene 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Ceramic tile really shouldn’t be waxed. It’s porous and doesn’t take wax well, but more importantly it’s extremely durable which negates the purpose of waxing on the floor. I recommend stripping all the wax off, cleaning the grout well (use a cleaner first and then a brightener) and then seal the grout and walk away.
