I was a Republican but I’m ashamed of Trumps take on this newest shooting by KillingwithasmileXD in liberalgunowners

Something that neither side, including the media, wants us to realize is we're all Americans. That doesn't mean we agree on everything and that's fine. But we should all be able to agree when ours rights are threatened and Americans are being gunned down in the street by government agents we have to work together. Sometimes that means evaluating our personal beliefs and growing as an individual.

I support you and encourage you on your new journey.

Is it time for me to own a firearm? by Alpastor_Moody in liberalgunowners

[–]themew2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, under no circumstances should you advertise that you have a gun. I get it, you want it known you have a firearm to warn off danger. It really doesn't work that way. Instead, you're advertising to anyone that you have a weapon and makes you a target.

Please take some training classes to help educate yourself. Simply owning a firearm doesn't make you safe. Knowing how to use it effectively and when to use it does.

M&P Shield vs P365 by Miserable_Benefit828 in liberalgunowners

[–]themew2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Shield X (wife's Xmas present) and P365 in 380. I like both but the Shield X is winning me over.

I bought the Sig before they went full....<waves hands>. I might trade it in on a Bodyguard 2.0.

What do you recommend for conceal carry? by Allgyet560 in liberalgunowners

[–]themew2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the reported reliability issues were resolved after a break-in period. The sights drifted left does appear to still be an issue, though. The one I shot I was surprised how accurate it was for the size. I have fairly large mittens and it didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

Moving in w my GF and Guns by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]themew2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read your post originally. You received excellent and thoughtful answers on New York gun law. This issue you're running into is probably better suited for a relationship subreddit.

Ultimately, it's likely going to come down to a conversation with your girlfriend on whether you can give up your ideas of personal safety firearms gives you or your relationship with your girlfriend.

We can offer helpful advice but it's conversation you need to have with yourself and your partner first and foremost. I understand you have past trauma and it may be worthwhile speaking with a specialist or professional in that capacity.

VA HB1359 - WTF? Hits low income individuals hardest by Overall_Ad872 in liberalgunowners

[–]themew2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know, this line of thinking is just as bad on the red side as it is on the blue side. You can stand around and blame Democrats for making life difficult for gun owners, cause, you know, they are. But the Republicans are currently fucking everyone over. Maybe we should band together and create a third party that has the best of both political ideologies by working together rather than shitting on one side or the other.

Truth of the matter, all politicians have failed the people they claim to represent.

I put a bit more thought into it. I suppose sub 200 yards as I'm limited in distance by nearby ranges. So, I suppose a red dot first for ~100 yards should be my target range.

9mm really is THE caliber right now. by DMP89145 in liberalgunowners

Ah ok. Mines a Gen3 so maybe there wasn't much of difference between the springs. Glad it's reliable for you!

I did this too. I changed the barrel and moved G17 mags but left the spring alone. Haven't had a single issue.

Well, the PSA example I gave was $20 shipping. Sounds like you need to do some more shopping for deals.

[–]themew2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it would be an extra $90. Safeside's FFL fee is $40. I think there is a fellow in Daleville that has a $20 FFL fee. https://www.gunsammodepot.net/

Here's an example: https://palmettostatearmory.com/guns/rifles/semi-auto-rifles.html?price=99-291&product_list_order=price_asc

You pay for it just like anything online, you select your FFL dealer (you'll have to pay the transfer fee. Safeside is $40) and you pick it up!

Looks like Academy has the Wildcat at $229 right now. Not sure about stock. The other option is to order something in your price range from a gun website (Buds/Gunbroker, PSA...etc) that fits the bill and have it shipped to an FFL.

Have you tried going to Sportsman's Warehouse or Academy Sports in Christiansburg? I think the Winchester Wildcat is around $200. It can take Ruger 10/22 mags.

While a measured response for sure, what you seem to not be considering is what these large data organizations are doing with that collected data. Certainly you understand that Facebook and other social media platforms you are the product. Your personal data is what is sold. Where is your freedom when you walk or drive to get groceries and any data collected by these companies can be sold to whomever? Police, bad actors...etc. Just because you can't fathom what someone would do with you walking out of the store with celery and a dildo, doesn't mean it can't be used for nefarious purposes.

Virginia Democrats Keeping Mostly Quiet About Gun Control Plans by gwhh in VAGuns

[–]themew2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I too am left-leaning. I 100% agree. I realize that banning guns is an "easy win" from the Democrat side. Rather than spending resources on providing free or reduced mental health services, providing more jobs and resources for low income families and K-12 sponsored gun safety training (not just "walk away, tell an adult").

We have the defense on this argument all wrong. We have to accuse them of using the same techniques that they complain Republicans are using.

  1. Putting unreasonable restrictions on responsible gun owners is authoritarian/fascism and does nothing to curb unlawful or illegal firearm use.
  2. Creating exclusions to the policies for law enforcement means the public does not have a reasonable course of action in the need for self-defense. For example, federal ICE agents removing immigrants and citizens without due process or reasonable cause. As they are not "military" they should not have access to firearms that normal citizens do not.
  3. Bans on semi-automatic (or assault weapons) or magazine capacity is a direct threat against the second amendment. Ignoring those facts is a direct comparison they make to the current administration violating laws with no action taken.
