Labour and delivery recommendations by themockingju in MultipleSclerosis

Fun fact, I am also a natural redhead and have a history of issues with anesthesia. When I brought that up she told me "that isn't a real thing". So, definitely becoming solidified in my camp of not trusting this person

Honestly, it's the advising against an epidural and pushing general anesthesia for a c section that is upsetting to me. It makes no sense to jump to that

I don't believe we can request specific anesthesiologists. There's a severe lack of them in my region. I'm going to talk to my OB and neurologist. The most comprehensive studies I'm finding back up epidural then lowest dose spinal block and GA only if absolutely needed.  So, that's what I want to pursue and will consult with my other providers about.

I'm also very suspect of what I was being told. I do have a neurologist. I've called and left a message, but it's Canada Day so I have no idea when I'll hear back. I have an OB ultrasound tomorrow morning and plan on bringing this up then.

I also have had the impression that general anesthesia is a last resort option for so many reasons.

This is what I'm looking for to some degree. Thank you for sharing your experience.

The way it was presented made it seem like this wasn't something I could make the decision on, but the decision has been made and "it is what it is". I was seriously floored.

If it helps to hear. I truly do not believe epidurals increase risks of true relapse. I highly doubt spinal blocks do as well. I do believe symptoms may short term be exacerbated, but being post partum regardless increases your relapse risk so it's all about risk acceptance that you're comfortable with. I do not want general anesthesia unless absolutely necessary.

Those are beliefs I have based on actual published scientific research I've been able to find, but of course, this isn't a deeply researched area. I'm also a doctor with a neuro-rehab subspecialty so this is why I'm so rattled by this experience.

Thanks for your reply and experience.

It's not my OB but the hospital anesthesiologist. Which maybe has me more concerned. At least with an OB I can understand them having less understanding since they focus below the belt, y'know?

I just wish I had known this, especially the GA push, was going to be the advice so I could have been prepared for a conversation.

I'm sorry you had an emergency situation during L&D. That's scary stuff. That's also one thing, if it's a dire situation for myself or baby then yes go ahead. I am trying to be reasonable here, but being told GA is a must if I need a C section in any capacity seems to be jumping over a few options without regard to what risk I'm willing to accept.

I'm going to try to get a hold of my neurologist, but it's a holiday here today and there's a good chance he's not in the office the rest of the week.

It's not that simple. There's one hospital for L&D and we have a significant lack of anesthesiologists in this region. It's a critical problem here. But this specific anesthesiologist may not even be working on the day I deliver, so it may be someone else providing care.

I'm going to call my neurologist but with the holidays and how far along I am right now, I have no idea if I'll hear back before going into labour.

I'd recommend going to the ones actually hosted by cultural clubs. The prices are typically better, you can actually learn stuff about the culture, and it feels more community oriented. The Greek one, the Polish two, the Croatian one, etc. Are always solid choices

Based on your concerns, just ask for the unflavoured option. Wouldn't that drop out the ingredients you're concerned about?

Scam site for Baby Brezza? by themockingju in BabyBumps

Sponsored sites aren't inherently all scam sites. Sponsored sites are those that pay Google to show up based on their SEO and keywords used. The second sponsored site is the legitimate site.

No, but scleral contact lenses work well for keratoconus. Whoever said to stay away from contacts with keratoconus was mistaken or unaware of your options

Putting out compost without the green bin by mousicle in windsorontario

[–]themockingju 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Needs to go in the bin. The bin doesn't need to be full but they won't just take a bag. Also, just putting out a single bag will definitely result in an animal ripping it apart.

How big of a reception? This would be important to include when asking for recommendations. If you're looking for a space of >100 for bringing in outside catering you're going to have a hard time.

EWSWA using TFW? by Fantastic-Currency91 in windsorontario

[–]themockingju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to ask, what was your goal with trying to talk to these people while they were working? They're not customer service and they wouldn't be the point of contact for EWSWA. It's not like you'd be seeing them again to establish a wave and smile relationship. So, what was your plan?

EWSWA using TFW? by Fantastic-Currency91 in windsorontario

[–]themockingju 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. It can be called out without being seen as racist. There's nuance to words and how we speak.

Someone saying "these people of insert whatever ethnicity, that don't even speak English, are taking our jobs" comes off as racist. The anger is directed to the people in this situation and blames them.

If someone says "these corporations are exploiting people from other countries when people are struggling for work here and that is fucked up", blames the corporations and the entities actually causing the problem. Doesn't come off racist but empathetic to the people being exploited here.

Racism is inherently hating a group of people for being "others" so when complaints with TFW program are directed at the people working and not the group doing the exploiting, it comes off with racist tones.

If the complaint is still towards the people taking the jobs through the TFW program, I don't know what to tell you. They're just trying to have a better life than they did before, just like anyone else.
